The Art of Civility Revisited

At times it has. But it goes in cycles. I remember (as I'm sure you do) of the negative/positive fervor upon the release of the first suit pic. Even if I get into a heated discussion, I try (but don't always succeed) in keeping it at least semi-civil. People are human, though, so I expect a little discontent every now and again. My kill reflex goes into overdrive at the mention of Smallville. I may need therapy to cure my hatred of that show.

I certainly do remember the disagreements in regards to the suit. I know you have been here a longer time than me, so you have seen it all.

No doubt about it, I am not immune to ripping into somebody for less than justifiable reasons. We are all humans, or our internet versions of ourselves.

I won't mention that show about Clark.

The arguments really are textbook on these boards, it's almost as if you know what's going to happen before it does. What you have written above is almost like a script to the back and forth on these boards.

Then when you or another MOD steps in, whatever you do is wrong. "You're biased", "You're unfair", "You're wrong". You can't win my man, but I know all of you do your best.
Thanks...but apparently we are all insane.

I talk to people on the net...as if they are sitting across the table from me. I say nothing to people here that I wouldn't have the guts to say to thier face without a fence between us. Too many others use the aninimity of the net to be as rude as they can.

First poster calls someone a bad name.
Second poster calls him a name back.
First poster PMs me and complains about being called a name.
Second poster PMs me and complains about being called a name.
Before I can get here...the two posters have spent three pages calling each other bad names and have now drawn several other posters into the argument.
I show up...tell people to stop arguing....and get called a Nazi for not allowing the sweet little angles here to freely express themselves.

If only we could send them all to Holdernesse College for rehabilitation, eh Doc? ;)

That said, I do miss the complaint thread- or at least the non-bickering parts there.

This is me for the most part as well, except I am probably more eloquent when posting, considering I have a Boston accent. :O

It's quite common, people on the phone or on the internet will put on a show, but you'll see the same people tip toeing past you on a quiet road. It's amazing.

He he,I tend to be rather shy on the net myself.I dont care a thing about fighting with someone that I cant even see.

I think we've all had an experience with getting into an "internet fight". You're right, it is a pointless venture with no end, unless you send a virus to the other person's computer or something.

Ha Ha Ha...snort....

Wow this thread has made a roaring comeback..........um what the hell happened to the BO thread?

I hide this thread on the boards, until everybody forgets, then I bring it back.

It was closed because of...lack of civility.

When was that thread ever civil? its was just a place for fans of just about every film ever made to use numbers to justify why their film was better.

I've been on this site a long time (6 years), and never have a seen a group as militant as the fans of Bryan Singer and Superman Returns...and I was here for the 'organics' debate...so I have seen some militant fanboys.

Not that other groups have not caused trouble...but I do believe that is the number one reason the Superman boards have become such an unhappy place.

Dunno dude, the anti organic crew were pretty wild.

They were, but it was a smaller, more intiment enviroment at the time. There were only about 20 to 50 regulars. Everyone knew each other and were civil with one another while debating. The only ones who weren't were Mr. Parker and Bakerboy.

Here however, you had about 300 people forming lynch mobs to take down anyone who said anything bad about the movie.

Well, no fighting here, for a change.

I have to agree on the whole ''being overly aggresive because you can't see me'' thing. We get carried away by the thought that, no matter what, the other person can't touch you, there's no real interaction, so you feel it's less compromising and you start behaving rudely. Sadly these boards have been victimized by that kind of attitude among people, including me at some point. Heck, including everyone.

So, keep it civil, keep it safe.

I washed away on the drool and just focused on the box office and the updates provided by many of the posters.

really??I got the feeling that it was......posters from other forums that were causing trouble.anyway,I try to get along with everybody myself.I like D.C. and Marvel, but I guess not everyone is like that.EDIT: I'm meaning toward the end there, matt.

I guess I don't really understand the split between DC and Marvel. I lean more towards DC myself, but not because I hate Marvel, it's just where I started and am more comfortable. Same reason I stay around the Superman boards, and Superman Returns. I go to the Batman or Spiderman boards and I am out of my element.

superman of course is my fav, then hulk, then bats, with spidey in fourth.pretty good split there.

I enjoyed Superman Returns but it wasn't Spiderman.

Those movies have the right mix. I enjoy all movies anyway, I try to find the good in them.
