Exactly raiden. For cb/superhero fans, especially marvel fans, this movie looks to be a dream come true. All the reviews, even the tepid ones, confirm this. I want to see this movie now!

It's pretty mixed, and adds further fuel to anyone saying Avengers is a rather shallow film that does not quite achieve greatness.

Wich are such a minority their fire is pretty small.

The first hour of the movie is a splendid character piece.

You've seen it pond? Thoughts? I'm avoiding spoilers so I don't want to go into the other thread.

I thought one of the reasons why Marvel would have 5 movies leading up to The Avengers so they can have the character development done right in their respective solo movies, and The Avengers would not have to delve too deeply into it. The exceptions are of course BW and Hawkeye for the main characters, but I heard BW got one of the best development in the cast, with Hawkeye not getting enough but is a pivotal character in a major plot.

I dont agree with that; the movie goes trough great pains to work both as a continuation of the movies before it and as a standalone reintroducing all character refreshed again, wich does very well even if it has to post a lot of exposition it might not have been needed y Whedon had the oportunity to work with less baggage; i also believe the movie does a better job at characterization than every single characters movie it came before; but Whedon is very subtle doing it, he does much with little, one line of dialogue giving much, much insight, one look, a silence...

The problem with the Superhero genre is that it's been flooded with low quality movies that all seem to follow the same basic formula. When the formula get repeated over and over again with no one trying to improve upon it the genre gets stale.

Name a genre where this isn't true.

Modern Myth Media review ...

http://www.modern-myth-media.com/2012/04/film-review-avengers.html

The midnight screening at my local, small suburban cinema was running the film on three screens, all of which were sold out. The first full day of showings at the same cinema was sold out for all of the screenings that day, and when I travelled across town to find an available showing, I found out that that cinema had cancelled a scheduled screening of Hunger Games so that they could add another timeslot for The Avengers due to the high demand.

Hah!

It seems like this critic is prepared to dislike this movie before he went to see it, but it still won him over despite his belief that the movie isn't good as a standalone and one must see the other 5 MCU movies to know what's going on. That means TA has an appeal that can appease even some ardent critics. What I don't understand is his score: 4 star out of 4.75? Why not out of 5?

When does the US embargo lifted, May 2? I'm very ecstatic over the number of positive reviews from oversea, but I hope some American critics won't try to be contrarians and give bad reviews just so they can sink the rating.
Either April 30th or May 1st. I've heard both dates. But I'm still holding out hope that it lifts a little early, which does happen from time to time.

WHY THE MlSOGYNY CARD WHY. FELLOW COMIC BOOK NERDS.....ATTACK. Or not...but that's still a stupid article.

The misogyny is just the ******ed cherry on top of a dumbass sundae.

What is wrong with people that they'd feel so personally offended by a bad review to take the time to harass the reviewer? Somebody explain to me how excitement to see The Avengers mutates into that.

majorspoilers.com review of the film was slightly sad, with the criticism of Thor not having an arc, considering it's his brother stirring up trouble. Hmmmm....

He has an arc. Its subtle, like most character moments in the film, but its there. Its not a movie that has many "character moments". The character are defined by dialogue, reactions, looks, what they say and what they decide not to say; they develop during the entire movie, they dont have many pauses to do it. They "are" instead of they "have showing moments" i dont know if i am explaining myself correctly...

One think that stroke me about the movie and not many people have talked about it is how ambigous Widow is; we never know what she is thinking and when she lies, or tricks, we never are quite sure how much revealing the suposed lie was and how much true there was in it. You can interpret many of her actions and words in so many diferent ways that i thought that made for a very interesting and rich character, far more than it apears on the surface.

Her relationship with Hawkeye was quite interesting too; you can never really take her word for anything she really says...

By the way I'm not bypassing the bad reviews. There simply aren't any today!

Outhouse review ( with 6.5/10 this is probably the worst I've found, but even then it's quite positive about a lot of things) ...

I can't get enough of these good reviews..keep em coming guys..

You know its a Whedon piece when half the critics are praising it mostly for the character moments and the other half is praising the action and calling it shallow or underdeveloped.

Its a bit like The Cabin in the Woods, a movie half the ravings where about how it was the next Scream and the other half about it was great because it had nothing to do with Scream. :whatever:

Same man, so diferent reactions...

At least they seem to like it.

I loved it.
