Thanks. The Australian review was pretty much a rave Id say.

Some rich bastard here in the Philippines rented the whole cinema for his family just for the Avengers. I'm going to investigate further for more details.

TheVileOne, hate the review, not the reviewer. I think that's the basic point here.
Meh. I'm a reviewer and I've had plenty of weird comments for articles I've written. Can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. And if you make mistakes you should own up to it.

Amy Nicholson failed as a reviewer by calling Nick Fury Nick Frost. Shows she wasn't paying attention.

lmao!

We have a place here called Eastwood City and they have an Eastwood Mall and apparently all of their cinemas are showing the Avengers

I don't know which one the guy rented, I'm still investigating.

Wow. A certain movie studio's marketing department will be getting a bonus this year methinks!! East Asia is gonna put this movie over the billion mark worldwide. Joss Whedon to (post John Carter) Disney: "You're welcome"

Uh, think there's a big difference between "criticism" of a bad review and the gross misogyny in those comments. Implying she doesn't get the film because she's a woman, saying that she slept her way into her job, or saying that she should go "back to the kitchen," is never okay, no matter how bad the review.

Probably ultra7 , since that's about 50 lazy-boy seats with unlimited popcorn and soda. and yes, you really can reserve that i believe.

That's just what happens when you write too many bad reviews. :cwink: (jokes)

I get what you're saying but that's to imply that Nolan hasn't put any fantastical elements in his two films...which isn't true. The visuals of Scarcrow's gas...the sonar concept used in the climax of Knight, as a few examples. It's just played more "plausible", that's all.

Hell, just look at the visual image of Bane in Rises.

Yes, there's room for both but I think it's been exaggerated how dark comic book movies have gotten in the last 10 years.

For certain adaptations (Batman, X-Men, Blade) the more plausible take on the characters fits. With other ones, it doesn't. I'm not expecting plausible with Thor. I'm expecting fantasy with him.

At the end of the day, it all depends on the character and the world they inhabit.

You could, in theory, do a more plausible, grounded version of Iron Man. The two films have elements of that. But, they also have elements of the fantastical. It sounds to me that Shane Black's take on Iron Man 3 is going to be more grounded, which is going to be interesting when you think about how RDJ has played Stark...
It's not that all comic book movies are now "dark", "gritty" and "realistic"....it's the idea that comic movies are "better" if they are done that way. Like...those qualities automatically make them superior.
I actually get offended when people say a movie is great because it 'transcended' the genre. This implies that other genres are inherently superior to the comicbook superhero genre, which is pure bollocks.
Agreed. I get the same feeling about comedies vs dramas. A drama is automatically considered to be a better movie by a certain segment of the critical community.
I think its the implication the genre in the case (CBM's) needs transcending to be considered great. It feels like a touch of snobbery against what is considered to be an inherently 'silly' subject matter.

Avengers is proving that implication wrong.
I hope this is true. Someone needed to come along and make a truly great comic book movie that in no way feels ashamed to be a comic book movie.
All i know is...nobody likes everything....if 99.999999% of the population agreed on one thing (would never happen) there would always be 1 person that doesn't agree just to spite the ones that do...that's the ridiculous nature of people in general
More accurate is that we all have different taste. Nothing can appeal to everyone. You can find people who genuinely do not like any movie you can name.

I don't get this notion about being ashamed of being a comic book movie.

Sorry fanboys, we hated this one too.

Why do all these bad reviews have the worst reasoning/excerpts to put up? I'm not saying all negative reviews aren't valid but all of them have been indulging in pissing off the "fanboys". As a critic I'd solely focus on the movie but hey that's just me.

Yeah the more I see the word "fanboy" the more I hate it. So condescending.

How fast RT adds the rotten reviews to the tally while sitting on the fresh ones for two solid days. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but it does make one wonder.

Anything with the word fanboy used in a condescending manner I immediately disregard. Reeks of snobbery and ignorance.

I haven't seen the film yet. But I did read that second bad review (http://fanthefiremagazine.com/blog/film/film-review-the-avengers/) and noted that the reviewer criticises the way the main characters in the film are brought together. This seemed strange, as other reviews praised that element of it.

The fact is, you can't please all the people, all the time. I don't get too hung up on bad reviews so long as they're impartial and written professionally. 38 positive reviews and 2 negatives ones is a fantastic achievement - so far - no matter what way you look at it. But I have no time for reviewers who aren't honest with themselves and seemingly write a review simply to go against the current trend. Similarly, reviewers who have zero interest in the source material and walk into the theater with negative preconceptions should really try and open up their minds to the subject matter before publishing a review which may influence many moviegoers.

And I just read it. I was right to disregard. Another absurd Transformers comparison and possibly THE most obnoxious thing someone can do when they dislike something everyone else likes... imply that they are clearly in the right and those who love it are just pretending because they want to love it so much. Ugh. Gag me.

I don't get rid of the impression that the worst reviews are written by critics who have no interest in comic book movies. Heard one on the radio today that say boring, superheros saving the world is always the same, alien invaders we had before and so on. Normally this guy trashes all action flicks, so it doesn't matter to me. But it doesn't sound good for the GA imo.

Imo sometimes should the radio stations or the newspapers be more careful with the selection of the critics. It makes no sense to send a guy who likes drama to a fun movie and vice versa.

Batten down the hatches, another rotten:

I predict this one won't get the same hate. At least I hope it won't.
would be nice but pretty much every negative review is gonna get picked a part to the letter.and anything that doesn't add up to the fan is gonna get blasted.I expect him to take heat alone for giving TA a rotten while calling green lantern
"A fun movie that you can lose yourself in for a little over 100 minutes and get a thirll and laugh or two along the way"
and with that let mortal kombat begin
