The Avengers The Avengers in 3d, yay or nay?

saw it yesterday in IMAX 3D. I hate 3D as most of you will know, with the exception of Hugo, there was simply no movie that made 3D look good.
The 3D in Avengers worked. It wasn't as bad as in Tron: Legacy or COTT, but it wasn't as good as in Hugo. Somewhere in between, leaning a bit more on the Hugo side.

Hey guys, I'm watching this in digital IMAX in a few hours and they are showing it in 3D only. I want to know if I could ditch the stupid glasses without losing "quality"... I mean, I don't give a damn about 3D, but I wouldn't want to see distorted images and something like that.

sorry, no. tried it yesterday for a couple of seconds, but without the glasses: blurry image

Does anyone know if Regal Theaters will get those cool Avenger 3D glasses?

It's the weirdest thing, it's apparently not playing on a legitimate IMAX screen in the entire Los Angeles area. It's on a couple of the LIE-MAX fake IMAX screens, but it's not listed as showing on any of our local real IMAX screens. I really wanted to see it again in IMAX, but I don't want to drive for an hour to do so. I also don't care about 3D, so I guess I'm going 2D this weekend.

Just saw the movie in 3d. It was good 3D but when I see it again on Friday, it'll be intentionally in 2d.

I watched it in IMAX 3D only because they aren't showing it in IMAX 2D over here. You're not missing out on anything watching it in 2D.

Loved watching it in IMAX 3D but Oh Lord, my eyes have just about recovered - was left with one MAJOR headache, which I've never had with IMAX or 3D before so I can only assume that it resulted from the combination of the two.

Anyways, as stated above, the 3D was decent but nothing to write home about. I'm going to watch it in regular ol' 2D in a couple of hours so..............

JOSS WHEDON PREFERS THE FILM IN 3D

[YT]HwJp9xu_SZI[/YT]

Watch from 2:39 onwards.

Also details the scene from 'Thor' in which Joss tested 3D cameras and decided to go with conversion since there was no difference.

Basically, seems to be the film was meant to be seen in 3D.

****in' YAY. And this is coming from someone that usually HATES 3D. Seriously, if you can choose, go with 3D.

To be completely honest, the 3D isn't that bad.

I saw one of the advanced screenings in 3D IMAX a couple of weeks ago, and I'll be doing the same on Friday. Whether you're a fan of 3D or not, IMO it's worth it for the sound and IMAX screen. When we saw the last Underworld movie in IMAX my ears were nearly bleeding afterwards, it was so loud.

Also don't forget that usually a matinee is cheaper. At my AMC, the 9:30am show is $12 while the 1:00pm show and after are $15 for 3D IMAX.

Just got back from the 2D showing and I enjoyed it just as much. Now I think I'd actually like to see it in non-3D IMAX.......

I saw it in 3D and it worked well but the next time I'll be seeing it in 2D. When I watch 3D I miss the sharp quality of 2D film.

For me 3D is a gimmick for theaters that can be fun once in a while. I would never buy a 3D move for my home theater.

It's ok. Does add something but nothing you need to worry about missing. If you do see it in 3D take your glasses off during the dark scenes.

Just to be clear, I watched it in 3D, and then in 2D. The forest scenes look much better in 2D simply because the image is much clearer.

So basically its worth seeing in 3D only if its IMAX 3D. If your not seeing it in IMAX then just see it in 2D. Is that that statement correct lol?

I was trying to buy tickets online for this weekend but the IMAX 3D version is not playing in Lincoln Square. Can anyone tell me where the best IMAX 3D version of Avengers is playing in teh NY area? Theres different kinds of IMAX screens so I have no clue which theaters is the best.

And NO to AMC Empire on 42nd because the screen is alot smaller there.

You should never seen 3D movies that have been post-converted. We need to boycott all of them
Whedon chose to do post-conversion because he tested both post-conversion and to shoot with a 3D camera and couldn't see any difference in the end result (there's a big difference in results with post-conversion though, depending on how well it's done). He didn't enjoy the experience of actually shooting in 3D though.

3D Looked Fine to me. I really had no probelms with it, tho there wasn't anything that stood out either.
