Doesn't matter. I doubt a whole lot of people that saw Cap last weekend were like "Hey, you guys wanna see the new Joe Johnston movie?" No. They were there to see Captain America. And it will be the same with this. People will be there to see Iron Man, Cap, Thor and the Hulk.

Yep. I think this movie will do TDK type numbers. It will be massive. A spectacle. Marvel will market this like there is no tomorrow.

Saw Cap for the 2nd time today, and the teaser trailer for Avengers is even better this time around since I saw it before, so I was able to pick out some details that I didn't noticed the first time. I'm just amazed at how this movie is coming together, and I'm awed to see Iron Man, Thor, and Cap along with other characters all on the screen at the same time. It's just incredible.

I think Iron Man or Thor (possibly both) soften up the Hulk, then Cap takes down the weakened Hulk, like in that alternate future with King Thor.

That's not what happened. All of them took on king Thor, and Thor killed the in the end.
Anyway, cap shouldn't be able to take down hulk, even if he's ''weakened''.
Guys like Thor and Hulk are way beyond his league.

I really don't see how this could not do great. People love Iron Man, they love Thor, and I'm guessing they love Captain America for I haven't heard anything negative about it... I really liked it myself.

To play Devil's Advocate - the same people love Iron Man, Thor and Cap - and apparently the latter two significantly less if box office is anything to go by.

I think Avengers will make just about enough money to justify this kind of budget (though one wonders how it could be that high) but there's no denying this is a big risk by Marvel given it might not make a lot more than the average Iron Man movie.

It's impressive how you love to downplay everything 'marvel'.
Btw, you might be somewhat right if you're talking US numbers. From the foreign numbers, i don't see how Thor is significantly less loved.
