Personally, I love 3D.

Movies have evolved to approach the way we see the world. First they added sound, then they added color, now they are adding the third dimension. For me, it's not a gimmick, it's a step in the right direction in making movies look more natural. Just like bad sound, bad 3D can be distracting, that goes without saying. Doesn't mean that 2D is better than 3D in principle, though.

Just my two cents.

I get headaches watching 3d and it gets blurry sometimes. Mi oftalmologist tells me that i dont have proper strereoscopic vision, so i might make too much of an effort to get a proper image in my brain; a friend of mine has 3d forbidden by his oftalmologist because of a contition he suffers in his eyes since he was a child, he could eventually loose his sight due the strain watchin 3d.

I dont have a problem with 3d in itself; but if 2d screens get lesser and lesser or their conditions of less and less quality, then we have a problem. And in small cities in big countries, its getting more and more dificult to find 2d coppies.

Thats not fair; to some, its a question of preference; to others, its a condition.

Yeah I'm really not a fan of 3D for the most part.

What I really don't understand is how they even post convert 2D into 3D if was only shot with one camera lense as opposed to the dual lense 3D cameras. It's no wonder all the post converted films look like garbage.

I think animated films look great in 3D. Loved Toy Story 3 and Up.

It's really nothing more than cash grab and one of the few things I dislike about MARVEL STUDIOS. However one cannot deny the importance of 3D in the global market.

IMO, the only reason 3D is still around is because it makes the studios more money per ticket. Most filmmakers don't like it and most of the GA don't like to wear sunglasses in a theater. It's being forced on the audience rather than the audience asking for it.

Hehehehehe the actor/character who made that really put that phrase on the map.

He really did man! Jack Nicholson always did stuff like that.

Like in The Shining.. "Heeeere's Johnny!"

[YT]NV4xo_rF-oo[/YT]

"All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

Or in A Few Good Men... "You can't handle the truth!"

DAMN I love that guy! :hrt:

But yeah back to my point that's what I thought of as soon as you said that. :funny:

Yep, I'm a big 3D buff, and Titanic 3D was splendid, great depth, immersion, felt like you were THERE, magical stuff.

But yeah otherwise, 3D conversions have sucked so far. Just shows you that when you know your stuff, 3D conversion can be great. Captain America was really meh in 3D, very flat, Thor even worse. John Carter's 3D was alright and it was one of the best 3D conversions I've seen, Wrath's 3D was pretty good, but the movie was thought out in 3D from the very beginning.

Still, apart from Titanic, you just see it when it's shot in 3D: Hugo was splendid, Avatar of course, Resident Evil Afterlife (the 3D, not the movie :D ) was pretty impressive in 3D too, Journey 2 was pretty good.

But yeah, with 3D, this is pretty much what you see now "yeah 3D was unnecessary", which makes me laugh all the time, the thing is with good 3D, is that you tend not to notice it as the movie goes on, because it becomes natural. I've done the test several times of removing the glasses, and putting em back on: even in the movies with a so so 3D, you just see that it becomes totally flat, you have the volume with the 3D.

Makes me think of Journey 2, where simple dialogue scenes had me impressed. It makes it feel so much more real, with the characters having perfect volume, no cardboard cut outs (even though this complaint is a bit ridiculous, and only occurs in a few examples). It sounds stupid but seeing the main character talking in the foreground, and clearly distinguishing the other character sitting in the chair a couple of meters up ahead is just immersive because it makes me feel like I'm here, being a part of the conversation, whereas in 2D, you don't have that, it's flat, flat, flat and flat again.

3D ftw, it just needs to be done well. I can tell already that Spidey, Prometheus and The Hobbit will look INCREDIBLE in 3D, especially the 48 fps on The Hobbit, which should make it so much smoother.
THANK YOU! I thought that I was alone on these boards. I absolutely love 3D movies/gaming. It can be incredibly immersive, but can be distracting if not done right.....see Clash of the Titans. I'm extremely exciting for the batch of 3D films this year.

Man that guy's responsible for some truely iconic phrases and I'm glad my post reminded you of him.

Well, it looks like (and it's been approved by many people in the field, don't remember where I read it though) that 3D is a great way of finding out if there is something wrong with your eyes.

I agree

I was looking up a particular Joss Whedon quote, and found a journalistic blunder on the internet. This is from Daily Mirror :

He approached this as if he was making a war movie; not just a bad guy / good guy movie. The War movie lets you see wave after wave and get that feeling like I am not going to make it out alive.
“The bad guys are the Vulcans.”
In Avengers, the villain is not the Cree or the Scrolls; in fact, they aren’t even in the movie. They are to complex a character to try to do in this first movie."

Best way to tell if a character is an imposter? Parchment coloration.

The next step up is for theatres to do what Nintendo is attempting with the non-glasses 3D via the 3DS. But they'd have to do a lot of testing to make sure it can be seen from every angle.

Financially speaking, I doubt that that is a possibility on the immediate horizon (even though there is a chance I could be incorrect in my assessment.) Truth be told, I haven't really formed an opinion on 3D imagery of this sort; I will post a response after classes. It's actually an interesting item, so I am looking forward to debating myself.

Something occurred to me while watching the film.
This is pure speculation because it's not specifically mentioned but I think

Great, I'm glad to hear you loved it Endeavor! :D

I would love if films took place in fully 3D worlds but at the moment they really don't and a lot of them have very little noticable 3D. Certainly not enough to justify the price difference. Avatar is the only film I've seen that the 3D enhanced the film for me (even then it contributed to slightly less precise visuals and image blur at points to me).

How many days until stateside release, again?
It is good to hear that the reviews have been very positive; after all, Whedon is reinventing the wheel for two genres, at the same time, with Avengers and Cabin in the Woods.

Nice

One by one every member of this forum is trickling in with their positive reviews. :word:

I'll actually be very interested in AB's review (in a good way).

I can't wait to see it again. The worst part of having seen the advanced screening is that I have to wait weeks before I get to see it again

I have to be honest about one thing, the 3D is lackluster. I'm glad they showed it to us in 3D because now I know 2D is what I'll be seeing from now on for this film

I feel soooooo bad for you. :whatever:

Kidding! I am, in fact, super-duper jealous.

I, too, have seen it at a fan screening. It took me a full day to recover from the awesome, and I'm not even joking. I'm still getting goosebumps thinking about it now.

The action, once it gets going, is relentless. Single scenes switch from drama to relief and back in the blink of an eye. You literally hang onto the arm of your seat (or person next to you), then laugh out loud and go "whoa!" the next minute, and then you're on your feet clapping. The acting is brilliant on all fronts. There's no weak link, nothing to complain about (at least not for me). (For the record, I didn't even think about War Machine once, and I am an Iron Man fan.)

Too many brilliant one-liners and defining moments of awesome to remember. I'll definitely see this at least five more times. Or six. Or seven.

(I saw a 2D version, so I can't comment on the 3D.)

Even now, two days later and going back to it in my mind time after time, the only thing I didn't like about this movie was that it ended. 10/10.

I got a pounding headache at several points throughout the film because I was laughing so hard, and so was everyone else in the theater. I even missed some character lines because of it.
This movie is great on so many levels. It has everything.
