No more crossover for RDJ Iron Man (significant chance), but not for the rest of the gangs.

I think Shane Black is pretty much talking from the point of view of Iron Man 3. Marvel wouldn't set up the whole MCU purely for the purpose of dismissing it after the first big crossover.

What I think is a natural evolution is a line of stand alone films, like stand alone comic volumes, that aren't tied to a specific character but only feature a couple of them.

Imagine a film with just Dr Strange and Thor at some stage, or Black Panther and Cap

I think those comments have to be taken with a grain of salt. Evans is signed up for 6 films, and he has stated that the plan is for three Cap and three Avengers films. Hemsworth has a similar deal. Marvel is not going to abandon the MCU after one Avengers film. What they may do is not have major cameos at the end of every movie, instead dialogue will allude to the larger Marvel universe. The stories may be more character-centric but the theme of the MCU will still be present throughout the films.

I think major cameos is also what they're talking about. I think we're getting Avengers sequels most definitely (I don't expect Avengers to not to do well). But the question becomes, will we see arcing leading to each Avengers film? This would indicate no. But, I still wonder if Marvel may change their minds. Like, if they wanted Ultron cameo in an Ant-Man film before Avengers 2. Or if they want to add elements of Civil War in films leading to a Civil War film.

The franchises will merge at least in Avengers sequels. I think this mentality only effects certain things. But either way, the Avengers existing needs addressed in the solo films. Like, why doesn't Tony just get Thor to help him take out the Mandarin? Those still need explained (even if it is just a line of dialogue like they're busy elsewhere).

I really don't understand why we keep getting new threads .....

the limit on thread length has been changed from 10k to 1k to cut down on.... something... think it was loading times of the site...

At least it autosubscribes you to the new one now,. Having to do it manually every 1000 posts for every thread was a bit like crap.

After The Avengers they won't be setting up other films In marvel films anymore.I expect Iron Man 3 to be last Iron Man film.If they try to throw money at Robert Downey JR to get him to play Iron Man again after Iron Man 3 It will be for Avengers sequels.
After The Avengers has Chris Evans for 4 films,Chris Hemsworth for 5 films,Samuel L
Jackson for 5 films,Scarlett Johansson for 3 films(1 of which will be solo Black widow film)
Cobie Smolders for 8 films, and reportly Mark Ruffolo for 2 or 3 films.

For avengers sequels Downey IS only one who Is In doudt. The rest(Unknown about Jeremy Renner's contract status) have deals In place.

Shield will continue to be a pressence In films. There might come a film where you see
Maria hill but not Nicky Fury.

Iron Man 3 might have a reference to The Avengers but none of the other heroes will be In It or cameoing. We might see Fury or Hill or both show up.

Dang, I was hoping for some team up movies:(

Just 'cause they went overboard with the crossover material in IM2 slightly to the detriment of the pacing of the film doesn't mean crossovers are a bad idea! The Marvel Universe with all these stories taking place in one continuity is one of the main reasons why I like all these comics & films based on them.

On a side note: I love the idea of trying to bring that crossover and team up style to the big screen. I gotta say though, part of me wishes they would've done it via CGI. We wouldn't have to worry so much about the aging of the people playing the characters and whether they will reprise the roles. In fact with today's technology (particularly what we saw out of Tron) they could really have fun with the MCU.

I want a scene that has all of the avengers back to back fighting it out and barely hangin on. Surrounded by who or whatever enemy.

Yeah that would be a really cool scene.
Hordes of Skrulls, or HYDRA soldiers or whatever outnumbering them would be great. Like that scene in FOTR when the Fellowship was surrounded by enemies in the Mines of Moria

Any scene that ever has 2 or more superheroes fighting back to back is awesome in my book.

Thats the sole reason I'm looking forward to a Luke Cage and Iron Fist team up, for some Heroes for Hire back to back bidness, knowumsayin?

I highly doubt Marvel built up this shared movie universe & will only use it for Avengers. Where's the logic in that?

well, I think that this is the only time the anticipation will be at the level it is. this is the first time we're getting to see a shared superhero universe in movies. once we get a little more used to it, it may not be as fun.

also, we're kinda getting the big guns first. after the Avengers, nothing else will have either the GA recognition or fan expectations.

So I'm curious .... what is the reason they picked New Mexico for filming? Tax purposes? What (potentially) about the script would called for that locale?

I believe [blackout]Selvig and Foster are camped out in New Mexico with SHIELD trying to figure out a way to get Thor back to Earth at the end of Thor[/blackout]
