The best part is, with Whedon at the helm, between the action and the witty dialogue, I think there's a chance this film miiiiiight beat TDK's record. I mean, Thor made 480 mil, and it had Pirates 2 weeks after it coming out. With Avengers, except for maybe MIB3 and Battleship, there isn't any real competition for a long while.

I'm trying to hold back on putting exact numbers on what the Avengers is gonna gross, mostly because A) I seriously have no idea whatsoever what it's gonna gross and B) I don't want to get my hopes up at all.
But if I had to put a number on it, I'd try to lean more to the conservative side and say it'll do IM2 numbers, maybe a little bit more.
Once again, that's a conservative estimate.

Well, I'd be frustrated too if I went all the way to Russia to learn the language and dialect, spent time in a Russian prison just to get into character only to have my role cut in half by a studio.

I don't want to sound hypocritical because I'm on record for liking IM2 as well as Rourke's performance. I could tell he worked really hard on the role even though there wasn't much to see. His frustration is completely valid, because at the end of the day Whiplash was kind of a generic villain with poor who we could tell was going to be easily disposed of, which isn't what Rourke wanted to do with the character.

I don't think anyone should write off Rourke as a croc just because he has something against Marvel. Do I like all of his movies? Not really, but he is seasoned, he's been in the business for a while and understands the whole studio vs director scuffle. The guy isn't really in the wrong.

I'd understad more if said he was personally treated unfairly. But he doesn't say that. He just complains about what they did to his role. But he doesn't seem to realize that it's not really HIS role. It's the studio's role. Unless a bigger role was part of his contract, then he should ****.

I work in IT for a living. My job is administer a network. I don't get upset if my employer doesn't sing my praises to everyone. And if they asked me to come up with a business plan for a new expansion, and I spent many weeks working on it and then they decided to NOT go with the expansion, well...that's none of my business. I can't get upset because I was still paid for my time. I'd only get upset if they somehow DIDN'T pay me.

So to hell with Mickey Rourke.

He got paid so he needs to quit his *****ing.
On the other hand, if he expressed his grievances like a mature adult and used some moderation in his complaining, I wouldn't have a problem with him expressing his dissatisfaction of the final cut of IM2. It'd be somewhat justified depending on how he went about it.
And yet, in every recent interview he's been in he's kicked and screamed like a whiny three year old, even when complaining about Marvel Studios wasn't even remotely germane to the conversation.
In no way shape or form is he being an adult about this.

Rourke is nuts. His frustration isn't valid either. Where was this Oscar-worthy script he acts like he was preparing for? He signed on to play a bitter character who goes around with electrical cables attached to his arms. What might have been his first clue that this was a summer blockbuster movie? LOL. Besides, Imortals looks like a cheap cable movie knock-off of LOTR meets Clash of the Titans. No thanks.

Getting paid goes without saying and I hardly see how that works into this entire issue. The issue at hand has everything to do with Rourke's feelings on how Marvel treated the character that he worked overtime to get right, not his paycheck.

The guy is an actor, he makes a living off of performing and his name will forever be attached to this project. Now, if the movie was lackluster and he knew that going in, then it's all on him and he should shut his hole. But clearly we can see that Marvel had their hand in the production and the character he thought he'd be portraying got the shaft. That's got to hurt. Especially when you've got a contract signed and you've been paid up front. Now you have to deliver whatever they want you to deliver whether you like it or not. That's gotta suck, especially when you consider everything Rourke did for this particular role, which I personally thought was insane, but definitely showed a lot of dedication. Clearly he cared about it.

Perhaps some people, even if they're getting paid, care about the quality of their work. That may seem redundant seeing as how Immortals is shaping up to be a very popcorn movie in and of itself, but I'd go so far to say that that role plus Expendables is nothing short of type casting brought on from IM2. These may be the only roles this guy gets for a while and he's probably bitter about it. Look at poor Robert Pattinson. The guy is actually a pretty competent actor, but do you think he's proud of having his name attached to Twilight for the rest of his life? And have you seen the stuff he's said about his feelings toward that franchise as a whole? No one's going to fault him for it because Twilight is truly terrible and he might never get another well-paying role outside of the fantasy realm for a long time. So why are we faulting Rourke for the same thing? Is it because of the way he said it? That seems petty if you ask me.

Rourke is justified, but he's being a dick about it.

Say your company has a presentation to give to the board of directors. Your boss tasks you and a few others to create presentations, and he will pick and choose bits from each presentation and form it into one big, super presentation. You work hour and hours, and he uses maybe a fifth of what you put into it.

Did you get paid for it? yeah. Are you still pissed he didn't use more? of course. You worked hard and want all of your hard work to be appreciated, not just some of it.

But it doesn't mean you can ***** and moan about it to everybody you can find for 3 years after the fact.

Sorry, but Rourke lost me when he refers to Marvel's films as "science fiction [frick]ing wham bam thank you ma'am pieces of crap" while lauding the merits of something as equally ridiculous as Immortal. If THAT's the end result of his vaunted "pragmatic integrity", then Marvel doesn't really look that bad.

If it can beat Transformers 3 then I'll be completely happy about it in that I am not very fond of those movies at all. The first half of the animated Transformers movie is better than all three of those films combined.
