This is a continuation thread, the old thread is [split]376417[/split]
If Hemsworth wore the same material they had on his arms on his legs, for as many months as they filmed, he would literally never have recovered from the chafingabsolutely, I don't like how they did Thor's costume though. In both movies. I have a couple things, the hair was too short in Thor. However, its much better in The Avengers. I don't like the leather pants, the pants should atleast be chain mail like the arms as well. His costume is like armor, if they wanted to make it look like current Thor (which I am guessing they did) atleast have it that cloth like material. I think they should have given him chain mail pants, be clean shaved, not a beard, clean shaved. And pleasee, damn given him his gosh darn helmet.
....the helmet that doesn't belong to that uniform, looks weird. It still really doesn't bother me. In some photos looks just fine, but in others doesn't. We'll see how it looks on screen.

Chainmail pants would actually look ridiculous on Thor. They're not trying to go for the Modern 616 look, it's clearly a combination of various comic looks, predominantly 616 and Ultimates. As much as I like Thor's comic costume, it just wouldn't translate that well into film. They can either go the way they did, picking and choosing to make it alien and foreign, or they go the full fantasy road, with Lord of the Rings style Nordic armour. Since the latter doesn't fit the context of how they worked Asgard into the MCU, it serves fine.
And also, to be honest, leather pants is probably more appropriate anyway. Boiled leather is a common material that would be worn for any warrior in a middle ages type period and we've seen that in most fantasy, period adaptations like LOTR, Game of Thrones, etc.
And personally, I always preferred Thor with a beard.

His arms look great and while I think the leather's okay, he'd look more godly and royal with his legs covered in chainmail as well. The way I see it, Thor's going to be in a lot more movies and they've already modified his suit in The Avengers.I think it's only a matter of time until we see the chainmail legs in a sequel.

Yeah, I agree. The problem with the TFA helmet is it looked great from the side but awful from the front, with those huge eye holes. They fixed the shape of the helmet in Avengers and I think it'll look great when presented cinematically with proper lighting.
Any costume designer could tell you that it would be too much. If you make a clothing feature on the legs too bright or distracting, it draws focus away from the characters centre and face, which is where the actors action takes place. If he was wearing a full suit of armour, that would be different, but simply having shiny chainmail legs would look extremely distracting.
