Time for some people in this thread to brush up on some comics

^ got a good place to start? I'd prefer an origin story, since I haven't read a flash comic before.

anything by Geoff Johns and Mark Waid…I liked the new 52 run also

^ thanks, wanna check the new 52 green arrow as well, I'll try and grab the flash one too.

^yea I know :) starts at 17 I think

If you want decent Barry stories...yeah, I'd say you could start with the current N52 run. That will give uou his most recent 'origin' and give you insight on several of the Rogues. The Flash rebirth explained his return from the dead (pre N52). The Flash....v4, I think, was his leading up to Flashpoint.

There's a lot of decent stuff out there with Wally, too.

Sadly, I don't have the greatest knowledge of the speedsters (outside of Bart - was a big YJ fan, which he was a member of back in the day, led me to reading his series).

Geoff Johns Wally West run is probably one of the best Flash stories, and Barry's in it a couple times.

I stopped reading Flash comics around the time Wally took over. I started to get more into Marvel at that time. Punisher War zone covers were some serious eye candy for a kid like me.

I'm talking prepowers. I think it was during johns run where he never wore a tie and needed one for court so some gave him a bow tie during the origin

Yeah, that was Johns. But before that it was just something he wore a lot, or even a normal tie (including his very first appearance). The "not owning a tie" thing is like a 5 year old detail.

i dont' get the the gustin love. in the clips i've seen so far...it's not that impressive. it's so forced when he tries to act all nervous and geeky. it is only 2 min worth though. idk. i guess we'll see if it works out tomorrow.

Barry looks like a teenager; he should at least act like an adult.
I've always imagined Barry Allen as a clumsy kind of guy. Not awkward, just clumsy.
I hope it works out in the end, but honestly, I'm not completely sold on this version of Barry. Not yet.

From the clips I've seen, Gustin will be fine, but not excellent or perfect. He definitely seems wooden

I think people are so taken with him because he comes off as charming and likable. Though I agree his acting is a little bit wooden, I feel like I'll very much enjoy his performance overall.

I didn't make the recos, just posting them.

...but generally a lot of stuff in DC before 1986 sucks, yes, and it's completely irrelevant now due to the 50 reboots.

dont read the comics. the writers probably didn't. just go to wikipedia like everyone else.

Because reading a wikipedia page gives you the same experience as actually reading the stuff. :whatever:

If they have Grant appear in the Justice League as Flash, we must have that super-speed race between he and Henry Cavill's Superman. :woot:

DC: The New Frontier is really good, so is JLA: Year One, in case no one mentioned them.

Flash Rebirth isn't a bad place to start, either, good Flash story all around if you haven't read it....but I probably recommend the New 52 Flash stuff above most if you want to be up to speed. It's pretty good, one of the best runs he's had in a longtime.

The Geoff Johns Wally stories are pretty much Barry Allen stories told with Wally West, IMO, since by that point they'd given Wally much of Barry's life (upped power level, secret identity/police job, reporter gf/wife, a Reverse Flash of his own, a Kid Flash of his own, brought the Rogues back, etc)...literally just about anything post the 1993 "Return of Barry Allen" storyarc you can sub in Barry for Wally and get the same story...makes no difference who is under the mask then. The only thing that distinguished Wally from Barry was the whole "living in the shadow of" theme....which once he progresses as a character and overcomes that, they essentially start telling Barry Allen stories again just without Barry Allen.
