If you ever wondered why Julie Newmar was not in the theatrical BATMAN movie where Lee Meriwether played Catwoman....it's be cause she had signed to appear in the movie Monsieur Lecoq that was filming at the same time.....the big problem was, this movie was abandoned and left unfinished. Here are some pics from it.
Bob Hastings was in the Penguin-Marsha 3-part episode.
Standing next to Bob is Alan Reed the voice of FRED FLINTSTONE.
Of course later on he would voice COMMISSIONER GORDON on B:TAS.
Mine would be The Penguin goes straight/Not yet he ain't from season 1. Burgess Meredith's Penguin was always my favorite on the show and this is my favorite Pengy episode.
Several of Penguin's episode had a theme of him pretending to go straight in some guise or another while secretly plotting some big crime, but this was his best and most evil one. The way he preyed on the trusting socialite Sophia Starr, winning her affections, getting engaged to her only to fleece her of the fortune in wedding gifts from her wealthy family. Then we have him framing Batman and Robin for theft causing them to become fugitives. Stealing the Batmobile and turning it into his 'Birdmobile'. And it has my all time favorite death trap of the series, where Batman and Robin are strung up behind the shooting gallery at the amusement park, and Gordon and O'Hara are about to unknowingly shoot them.
Just so much greatness in one episode. Even Alfred got in on the action going under cover as an insurance agent to snap photos of Sophia's jewels, and trying to replace Penguin's cigarette holder with a decoy that has a transmitter in it. The ending was hilarious where Sophia is reunited with Penguin in Gordon's office after he's been arrested and she is still willing to marry him and try to reform him. The thought of it disgusts Penguin so much that he shouts "Great heavenly ice flow....TAKE ME TO PRISON!!!" and storms out
Talking about the 60s Batman show...I wish Eartha Kitt got more episodes. Though that could come down to scheduling, I'm sure.
For one, I loved her take on the character as much as Newmar and Meriwether. Though Newmar is my favorite of the three, no Selina Kyle has been able to purr like Kitt could.
Kind of a spur of the moment purchase but I finally picked up the series on blu-ray a few days ago. I've never actually seen the whole series, just watched a few random episodes every now and then a few years ago on TV (I think it was around the Dark Knight Rises hype). Really enjoyed and had fun with the ones I did see, but I'm excited to finally give these episodes a proper watch!
