The Batman (1966) Appreciation Thread - Part 1

John Astin is probably my favorite Gomez Addams. He has a certain maliciousness in his eyes that makes him as crazy as he is charming.
I only discovered the original show about two years ago and loved what I saw. The series pilot is impeccable in every way.

However, I've never seen him in the role of the Riddler! I have serious flaws concerning the '60s Batman... I'll have to correct that!

Love the actor, Agree Astin was the definitive Gomez, part Castilian over the top romantic, outrageus swashbuckler, and part bizarre latin Graucho Marx.
Yet he was poorly served as a re-cast Riddler, he was never going to measure to Gorshin's well established terifyingly maniacal mobster Riddler. (who the studio should have payed to keep on)
And the harsh comparisons didn't serve Astin.

I wish they had used Astin for his own unique character role on the 66 Batman. He would have made a terrific more swashbuckling campy Cavalier, and delivered some outrageous fun.

(interesting Carolyn Jones also appeared as Queen of Diamonds)

Looks like more figures based on the ‘66 series and comics on the way…

Disappointed to not see Mad Hatter yet again. Or Astin’s Riddler for that matter.
