The Batman (1966) Appreciation Thread - Part 1

The last surviving member of his Addams Family too. Although that’s equal parts impressive and sad, when you consider he outlived the kids.

John Astin is probably my favorite Gomez Addams. He has a certain maliciousness in his eyes that makes him as crazy as he is charming.
I only discovered the original show about two years ago and loved what I saw. The series pilot is impeccable in every way.

However, I've never seen him in the role of the Riddler! I have serious flaws concerning the '60s Batman... I'll have to correct that!

Love the actor, Agree Astin was the definitive Gomez, part Castilian over the top romantic, outrageus swashbuckler, and part bizarre latin Graucho Marx.
Yet he was poorly served as a re-cast Riddler, he was never going to measure to Gorshin's well established terifyingly maniacal mobster Riddler. (who the studio should have payed to keep on)
And the harsh comparisons didn't serve Astin.

I wish they had used Astin for his own unique character role on the 66 Batman. He would have made a terrific more swashbuckling campy Cavalier, and delivered some outrageous fun.

(interesting Carolyn Jones also appeared as Queen of Diamonds)

Looks like more figures based on the ‘66 series and comics on the way…

Disappointed to not see Mad Hatter yet again. Or Astin’s Riddler for that matter.

Oh hell ye— *looks at price* — Aw, nevermind.

A little bit tempted to have a West figure the same size as the ones I have for Pattinson, Bale, Clooney, etc, but I might be good enough with the ones McFarlane has already put out.

Were they genuinely trying to spin-off a bubblegum-pop star here? (was there a tie in 45 release)? Or just outright spoofing the whole trend? I can never tell with this show? :funny:

Though her costume and name (Pussycat) was a bit silly (appropriate for the show) Catwoman having an analogues counterpart to Robin, did make sense to me.

Always wondered was there precedence for her in the comics? Or was she purely a Batman 66 invention?
I know there was a "Kitten" in the Superfriends comic version. And know Miller later introduced a Catwoman young sidekick of sorts in Y1 that has since been developed further, as well as Kelly becoming Catgirl in DKSA.

I don't think they were trying to give anyone a spin off. They had Liberace play an evil twin in his appearance. These one off ideas were common back in the day.

Yeah Lesley Gore who played that character was just one of the long line of celebs who wanted to be on the show because it was trendy to be on Batman back then.

Its why they came up with those window cameos from celebs when Batman and Robin would be climbing the side of a building. Because they couldn't accommodate all the requests to be on the show as villains.
