The Batman comics recommendation thread!

Of course! Two of the worst stories I've ever read! Cacohony is painful to read.

Knightsed is excellent. I really like Rip, arkham asylum... and he classics one. But "a lonely place of dying" is unforgettable.

"a lonely place of dying" is the reason why people who hate Robin are IDIOTS...

also read Dark Victory, Robin Year One (Dick Grayson), Face the Face, and Robin's intro (Batman Chronicles series)

I could use some help, im gonna go into town next week and I think i'll either be picking up:

Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader

or

Batman: Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul

So yeah id just like some recommendations on which is the better of the two?

neither are really great!

I only say this because IMO Batsey's books have kind of sucked for a while!

go with Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?

It's a lot better than Ressurection of Ra's.

Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader IS a great book. A very great book. And worth every penny.

Yeah, Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader IS a great book.

And the Batbooks have been good for quite a while. Maybe not all of them, but between Detective and Batman they've been pretty strong for quite a while.

My choice probably would have been Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader straight away but I had been reading very different opinions on it

I was hoping for some recommendations on good Batman graphic novels or anthologies. I really liked The Long Holloween and Dark Victory. I didn't care as much for The Resurection of Ra's al Ghul. I like "the Greatest Batman stories ever told" and I recently read Batman Black and White which I thought was great.

Blackeno, IF YOU LIKE "the Greatest Batman stories ever told," GET BATMAN IN THE 70's.

also, pick up BATMAN CHRONICLES VOL. 1 & 2 (avoid the rest)

if you like THE SCARECROW, get SCARECROW TALES...

also (it's been said a million times) DKR is a must & THE KILLING JOKE IS A MUST!

if you didn't like The Resurrection of Ra's al Ghul, you should look @ BATMAN: FACE THE FACE and Batman: Jeckyll & Hyde.

.

Why should he avoid the rest? It's that kind of thinking, the promotion of ignoring aspects of Batman's history, that leads to incessant pissing and moaning by hordes of fans when they read a Grant Morrison story.

face the face has a strange two face characterization. But so has "jekylll and hyde". I'm not a huge fan of jenkins work, even if he works better on batman than on spiderman.

Just wanna remind folks that the Gotham Central: Jokers & Madmen hardcover comes out today. "Soft Targets", the Joker story in the book, is supposed to be awesome. Check it out.

I really like gotham central, and i thought there was a bit of it in the dark knight, which was great!

why do people hate BATMAN: THE CULT?

ALSO, what about Superman and Batman Vs. Vampires and Werewolves?

It's got good ratings on Amazon! Is it worth picking up?

The cult realy is a great book. Even if it owns to The Dark Knight returns, it's good in its own way. It's scary, bloody, violent, deacon blackfire is a great vilain, and we get to see a totally destroyed batman, a frightened batman who never let go (the awesome fight scene in the sewers).

Also, it's one of the best story featuring jason todd as robin. The art is good too. Really like this one.

Wow, I haven't visited the Batman forums in months. It's fun to go back and read your past comments. I remember this place was packed throughout 2008. I wish I was still a huge Bat buff like I used to be...:csad:

Are Volumes 3 on where it gets into the really cheesy era? Just curious as to why you're telling him to skip the rest.

Yes Figs, and everyone... VOL. 3 on are the camp era!

They are even hard for the hardcore bat fans to get through!

Just started on What Ever Happened to the Caped Crusader. Gaiman doing Batman, I could not resist.

I am wondering if there is any continuity between Final Crisis, RIP, and WHTTCC?

WHTTCC is a aftermath/ folow up to FINAL CRISIS, but then again NO IT's NOT...

just a story that attemps to round out the characterization of Batman and explore his history.

Then i'd say that they aren't hardcore bat-fans, only saps who care about dark and gritty Batman. I have all volumes up to 7, and I love them. They're stupid, very fun to read.

Can anyone tell me any good trades with robin in that I might be missing Ive got robin year one, batman Gautlet, A lonely place of dying and a hero reborn. I've been thinking of getting 'going solo' next but am tempted to get teenage waste land.
