Is the Mike W. Barr/Alan Davis run on Detective Comics, any good???

I'm a huge fan of the Bronze Age Batman comics.

Is the characterization of Batman and the tone in that run, similar to the Bronze Age version???

okay... the Mike W. Barr/Alan Davis run on Detective Comics is really good, but can be mediocre.

Has anyone read the new tpb BATMAN: MONSTERS

i recommend it for the very faithful CLAYFACE origin.

there are 3 stories (7 issues) in LOTDK series!

Just read that a few nights ago and really liked it.

I finally read Batman R.I.P, Battle For the Cowl and the companion to BFtC.

Does anyone know what other stories I might need to get to fill in some of the blanks?

I already own Batman and Son and The Black Glove. As I was reading R.I.P. and BFtC a few things confused me that were mentioned that I wasn't aware of beforehand, especially with BFtC. Just wondering if there are some single issues I should buy to fill in the blanks with the graphic novel versions.

i am interested in picking up brian azzarello's "joker". have been for a while now, but never got around to it.

what do you think of it?

I think it's great. But you have to be open to it, it is pretty different to normal Batman stories. Just treat it as a elseworlds tale and I think you'll like it.

It's surprisingly deep too I think. On the surface it just seems like a ultra violent story for the sake of being violent. But there is some great scenes that demonstrate the relationship between Batman and Joker.

thanks. i'll give it a go.

"Some of the creative talent who have worked on the series include Dennis O'Neil, Grant Morrison, Mike Mignola, Bill Willingham, Matt Wagner, and Doug Moench."

So these LOTDK issues in these books?

yes... those are it... i will suggest Gothic, Monsters, and the story Blades (not sure where that is collected)

Are there any good Outsider stories? I checked wikipedia and it seems Batman, Catwoman and Martian Manhunter we're in the team with the usual gang, is this any worth the read? I gotten this big interest in Black Ops stories and suddenly Outsiders seemed kinda interesting, but i never hear anything about this serie lol.

I picked up City of Crime the other day, on discount. I'm about 6 chapters into it, and i really don't understand alot of the scathing hate this book gets. Sure it drags a little, but the story is actually really freakin' good. It's got some awesome Batman being a Badass moments. And the hate towards the artwork? Really? It's actually pretty damn good. I like how Batman is drawn like a moving shadow most of the time. Really, im enjoying this alot. I don't get why like 95% of Batman hate this story.

Hey guys, picked up The Long Halloween and Dark Victory today for Christmas.:woot: My question is, can The Long Halloween be enjoyed if you haven't yet read Year One?

Yeah, it can. The Long Halloween is very new-reader friendly and while it picks up with some ideas from Year One, it can stand on its own.

But you should definitely read Year One at some point. It's my personal favorite Batman story.

quoted for truth. I like city of crime very much, as well. I think most of the hate is aimed towards the books ending, which is - sadly - not really that satisfying. but besides that, it's a great read, very thrilling at parts and it got, in my opinion, some of the darkest, most gothic batman artwork since the 1990s. batman's cape is, actually, black. how cool is that?!

Just finished it last night and I couldn't agree with you more. The ending isn't as satisfying as it could be, but alot of crime stories like this usually are. It's only introduced to open the doors to something even bigger, but completely unrelated.

It is a great read though. It's a mean, dark and dirty story. Very well-written and the artwork is just great.

Again, why is it hated so much?

I must recommend BATMAN: SCARECROW TALES.

in fact I cannot recommend it enough!

Make sure you wait a while before you read year one after TLH cause the stories are kinda similar.

Batman: Scarecrow & Two-Face Year One - it basically tells their origins., very good read. 4/5

Batman: Scarecrow & Two-Face Year One is terrible. The 90's origin of Scarecrow was better.

TLH was better as an origin for Harvey!
