I know it is super early, but in what categories do you see this film to have a shot for nomination?

This is how I rank them:

STRONG CONTENDER:
Best Sound
Best Visual Effects
Best Makeup
Original Score
Production Design
Cinematography

POSSIBLE:
Film Editing
Costume Design

UNLIKELY:
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Adapted Screenplay
Lead Actor
Supporting Actor

For me the film MUST be nominated for Score and Cinematography. Both were spectacular!

What do you think?

...what I really want and hope for;

Original Score
Production Design
Cinematography
Lead Actor - Pattinson

The rest would be nice;

Production Design
Makeup
Cinematography
Sound
Original Score

It abso-goddamn-lutely deserves a cinematography nomination at the absolute bare minimum. Every shot in this movie was goddamn gorgeous.

It’s released way too early to get any traction for next years Oscars. If it had a shot at anything it would be cinematography and score but voters rarely take those noms seriously as is.

The way I see it, if Joker and Dune could score Best Picture nods, there's hope for The Batman but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

As it is, Cinematography, Sound, Costume Design, Production Design, Score, Makeup and Visual Effects should be locks.

There are outliers. Get Out and Black Panther were released a whole year before they were nominated for Oscars.

Best Makeup for sure due in large part to just how unrecognizable Colin Farrell looked

I think this was due in part to there being a push in recent years to make the Oscars more diverse, and those were two of the most successful movies that had black actors/writers/directors in major roles.

Sorry to say, I think Sharkboy is right, and I'd imagine this movie is completely ignored come next year's Oscars. It's just too much of an ask for the Academy to have that long a memory.

The Oscars are largely seen as an irrelevant laughingstock at this point anyway. It’s also likely to be a very very competitive year with killers of the flower moon, babylon, the killer, poor things, bardo, armageddon time, blonde, white noise etc etc all very likely coming out by end of Oscar season.

regardless if Batman ends up being your fave film of the year it doesn’t have a chance in hell to get anything other than a nomination for cinematography…and that’s perfectly fine.

Well, I am sure that WB will make a big Oscar campaign for the film. But I agree, that these 3 nominations are a must, due to how amazing they were: Cinematography, Score and Makeup.

Go back 30 years and you'll find that Silence of the Lambs was not only nominated but won Best Picture a year after it was released and there was no push for diversity back then. Again, outliers. All I'm saying is never say never. There's always a chance, especially if it turns into a weak year for nominees.

Colin Farrell will be trotted out everywhere to get that Makeup nomination. That's the only one I'm confident will happen.

But even back then, it was considered unusual that it was nominated, and even more so that it won. What might have helped was it being released at a time when there was a wider gap between releases in the UK, which was closer to the summer, and film critics really championing it. Could this happen with The Batman? Maybe, I just don't think it will.

I watched it again last night. Add Prodcution Design to the MUST list. It was fantastic!

Watched it 3rd time, just for the small details and crafts.
If this movie does not get nominated in Cinematography, Production Design, Makeup, Sound and Score it will be a crime! Also deserves Editing and Visual Effects.

For all the hyping up Colin Farrell has done for the man, if Mike Marino and his team don’t get a nomination, Colin should burn the goddamn Academy to ashes.
