The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

A lot of it tracks with things I heard months ago.

Bruce's parents being part of the corruption, the second suit, Ridder as a Jigsaw-type serial killer.

I LOVE the idea of
Riddler asking to speak to Batman and then detonating a bomb

I make no bones about disliking the idea of the Waynes being
an active part of Gotham’s corruption,
but if it informs the Riddler’s character and motivation, I guess I’ll have to accept it.

Also, fine with
the second suit, as long as the reasoning behind it is solid. Moar Hot Toys figures for me!

Does anyone have any further thoughts on this whole
flooded Gotham, Mr Freeze ending thing? I kinda hate the whole concept.

The most immediate place I’ve found with it is on Giant Freakin’ Robot:

https://www.*****************.com/ent/exclusive-the-batman-mr-freeze.html

https://****************.com/movies/batman-reportedly-adapt-major-comic-book-event/

…given their track record though…

Edit: site is banning links, so I guess I know how well regarded they are around here! :D: Search Google and you’ll find it though

Don’t worry, that Freeze thing is fake. Never believe GFR or WGTC type sites.

Yeah… I’m doing some digging of my own, and that seems to be the case. Good. Sounded terrible. Someone’s been reading Year Zero too much.

That thing about the Waynes is not an idea I can accept.

I could accept maybe the Waynes were aware or it or Bruce believes they were a part of it but realizes it was wrong, OK maybe. But I can't accept the opposite.

Giant Freakin' Robot is a trash clickbait website that reports fake news.

I guess you’re gonna dislike the plot then.

For me I think the comics have been really phoney in trying to paint the rich Wayne history as a bunch of pure philanthropists. It’s such b.s and it’s one major part of the source material that doesn’t sit right with me because it’s not believable for a second. As long as they loved Bruce I’m fine with it. It’s waaay more interesting that Bruce is trying to do better than his parents, fix the sins of the father instead of just carrying out a beautiful family legacy.

Stuff like that is all about execution. The Wayne’s being corrupt to any degree isn’t intrinsically bad imo, but it certainly could be. Like anything.

I don’t think they should be some cold-blooded racketeering murderers, but Bruce finding out that they aren’t these pristine angels that he was led to believe/wants them to be could lead to more nuanced character work for Bruce, Alfred, possibly Falcone, etc.

I honestly think if you're going to do any kind of modern story that touches on Batman's origins or his early adventures and development (even if it isn't an origin story), you have to do something like this with The Waynes to one degree or another. The only way to really make them saints is if you just have the rough idea of the origin way in the rearview of the story you're telling, "Well, yeah, his parents were shot in front of him and it was sad. Anyway, let's talk about Clayface."

The Waynes being corrupt in any capacity is ridiculous and should be off limits. They need to be almost perfect people, the original Gotham Do Gooders who Bruce looks up to/models himself after and tries to not fail the memory of. By making them fall off the pedestal at all, you start to destroy the very essence of who Bruce is to his core and why he does what he does. Granted he would have more than likely become some form of Batman regardless to avenge his parents but taking away their wholesome qualities, strips Bruce of his remaining decent qualities.

I don't know, a Batman movie with an anti-Capitalist, "Eat The Rich" message sounds awesome to me. It makes sense that that's what a Batman movie would be in our modern era.

A change like that makes sense

Seeing as we got that with TDKR, I'm down for that angle too but not with corrupting the Wayne family man. It was one thing doing it in that Joker movie because it's from his warped perspective and we don't know fact from fiction with him, but to make the Waynes like that in a Batman reboot is just not the way to do it.

That's screwing with the spirit of Batman.

Disagree 100 percent. Rich people aren’t almost perfect ppl. That shouldn’t fly now. People know better.
