The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

But also I’m willing to take questions because I’ve talked to a few people privately that were at the test screening

1. Who stands out among the characters created specifically for the film?

2. Out of Catwoman, Riddler, and Penguin, who was the most liked character?

3. Spoilers have revealed that Earth One and Zero Year have a pretty good influence on the film. Are there any other comic arcs that haven't been brought up that this movie references?

4. A major problem with Batman films is that Batman frequently gets overshadowed by his villains. This movie, from what I can tell, definitely won't have the problem the Burton/Schumacher films had, but from what you've heard, is this movie more like Batman Begins, where Batman pretty much outshines Ras and Scarecrow, or TDK/TDKR, where Batman gets overshadowed, despite clearly being the main character?

Thanks for sharing info with us.

1. Didn’t ask him this but probably Bella Real or Savage. Real doesn’t actually have a big part though

2. Hmmm probably Selina, although it sounded like Dano had the best compelling performance

3. as much as I hate to say it, because I hate this story, there’s a few Earth One influences. But Ego, TLH, and Year One are the most obvious inspirations apparently

4. Yes, there’s like, 1 or 2 scenes that Bruce/Batman doesn’t physically appear in. He’s by far the most interesting aspect of the film and his arc is told mostly through his performance. That’s not to say Dano wasn’t unbelievably good, just that it’s a Batman movie first and foremost where we primarily care about his character before everyone else

What did they think about the movies score by michael giacchino?

Interesting that your friend told you all of this info but didn't tell you about the drops. Hmm. From what I know, Falcone/Penguin sell drugs called drops (dock scene). But that's it. It's not really a huge spoiler at all, so is it possible that there are twists (regarding drops amongst other things) that were even kept from the 4 page breakdown i was sent?

Ohhhh yeah I just remembered, someone brought up that they were wondering what the misleading set videos were.

the women at the funeral isn’t actually Selina, it’s built up and shot like it’s going to be, but it ends up being some random white girl

This is unrelated to the above, but can you ask

1. Is Riddler sadistic and cruel, or is he more collected, like does he come off as zany insane or is he quiet, reserved.

2. This isn't really important but does Bruce cry in the film?

1. Seems like he starts out as quiet and collected and starts to get slightly more zany while getting into the murders

2. I actually asked this exact question, lol. No he doesn’t cry, but he’ll sure make the audience

Weird question but does the movie have jokes?

Does Batman kill anyone in the movie even if it's indirect like Bale?

It does have jokes! Not quippy or dumb lines that break the tension like in Marvel movies but a lot of situational and deadpan humor mostly with Batman himself actually. Heard Jeffrey Wright was actually really funny

and rest assured he does not take a life
This is so good to hear, although I was never really worried about that.

Do we get to see Danos face a lot of very briefly? And, did your friend mention if each individual character has their own theme?

I've also heard the room borderlines on horror at times. Is that true?

I think you only see Dano’s face in the capture, interrogation, and final scene with joker

each character has the purpose of allowing Bruce to learn about himself and grow through their interactions but they’re still all very complex, human and nuanced

Yeah it’s more the “unsettling” horror vibe though, just really creepy

What did they think of Riddler as a villain? how good was he as an antagonist especially compared to the likes of Heath Ledger Joker?

Is Penguin a comedic relief character or is there a darker and more complex side to him? what about him justifies the spin off show?

Nice! Thanks for answering all of these questions btw. I'm really loving what I'm hearing.

Alright! Thanks for the answers!

So I wonder if Joker is just seen through the slot of his cell door, given that we apparently only see scarring.

If that's all there is to the Joker scene then potentially cutting it seems futile - its just world building at that point and I'd prefer it to be in the film as opposed to a credit scene.

@Robbypattypats
How’s the action ? Is Batman a brute force or is he technical?

is the movie emotional?
Is bruce jacked/ripped

All those allegedly straight Battinson haters on Reddit thirsting over Affleck's gigantic muscles lol
yeah, and they are also almost always incredibly homophobic. but at the same time they are literally drooling over batfleck's fake abs and keep obsessing on the physique aspect of the given actor.

Guys, cool it. If you don't care about it, then just move on. Don't immediately dive into trashing those fans who have an interest in actors undergoing superhero transformations. Frankly, it comes off homophobic on your parts. There are plenty of reasonable fans who think that the actor's physique is part of the package with these sorts of roles. It's not some sort of Snyder Cult-exclusive trait.

And there is nothing inherently wrong with that. It's just like actors getting in shape to play boxers or other professional athletes. Being physically fit and carrying extra muscle, etc. helps inform the performance and changes body language, etc, which is why you have seen esteemed actors like De Niro and Bale do it.

I wasn't lumping any of you with those people

That's not how it comes off, when as soon as someone asks how Pattinson's physique looks in the film, a bunch of posters start commenting on how "weird" it is to be concerned about that sort of stuff and going straight to talking about kooky Batfleck fans and insinuating that they are closeted gay men.

While I may personally disagree with them on practically everything Batman-related, there are quite a few Snyder and Batfleck fans on the Hype and we need to treat them with respect.

Does either the Iceberg Lounge fight scene, or the part where Batman is chasing the Penguin down in the Batmobile come after Alfred and the letter? I'm curious as he seems pretty pissed in both of those scenes.

Btw, Batman uses these contact lenses that allow him to record everything. You can see it in the shot of the white spray paint in Wayne manor, all the pictures laid out are from his footage
Dude someone on Reddit said something About him recording all his encounters when the trailer came out. Glad it’s confirmed! Wow that’s super interesting and cool
