The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Personally kind of hope we don't have a lasting "Apocalyptic" feel for Gotham after the flooding. Like we just entered this Gotham which felt pitch perfect and it immediately gets destroyed? I was never a big fan of stories like NML or Zero Year so I guess it's just a personal preference.

It's a great movie, but far from perfect. I wasn't a big fan of this Bruce...I understand the deliberate story choice, but I felt he wasn't dynamic enough as a character and was just kind of unreactive and mopey at times. Hopefully the ending marks a shift in his character...it's a character arc I can appreciate even if I didn't always enjoy the character getting there. Luckily, Pattinson's Batman is probably the best live action Batman -- a real detective who is still learning how to be Batman. I would love to see this Bruce and Batman be more fully formed in the sequel. I thought Catwoman and Penguin were pretty great. I love Dano, but I think his Riddler at times came off a little over the top. If I were Reeves, I would have had him play it a little less unstable, and a little more nerdy/in control but unhinged in his intent. The plot is pretty good, but there's some clumsy execution. The reveal about Bruce's dad is undermined so quickly by Alfred that it kind of loses any impact. Additionally, Riddler's plot makes sense until it doesn't so much. I'm not sure where I place this amongst the Batman movies, but it's somewhere up there in the top 3. The action and fight choreography was easily the best of any Batman film, and this just felt truest to the essence of the character. The way it ends really sets up what could be a fantastic sequel after the groundwork that was set here.

I think that is the point though...Bruce is nothing at this point in his life. He has no connection to anything, he barely has one to his name.

I get why that would be off putting though, I just think it made sense in the context of the story. I would assume as the movies go on Bruce will grow more.

I noticed watching it a 2nd time that the club bouncer running gag (which I loved) had Batman show up as Batman, as public persona Bruce Wayne, and somewhere inbetween.

I thought that was interesting because it kind of started to show Bruce that his public persona can be just as effective as Batman when it comes to infiltrating/getting information, maybe leading to him becoming more "public" as Bruce than he was in this movie.

My guess is it will be built up a bit but unless it is "5 years later" in the universe they can't change much. Rebuilds after disasters take a while...

Yeah, I just personally don't want sleeveless Batman with a bow & arrow in overgrown post apolcalyptic Gotham City, just doesn't feel like Batman to me, but we'll see what happens. I trust Matt Reeves though, seems like his sensibilities are just perfect for this character.

I have to say with how the story was written and the characters woven in, unlike other comic book movies and movies in general to be honest, it felt very organic and natural. I didn't question why any of the characters or plot points were there.

I kinda doubt it. We already saw at the end Batman driving his bike into the city. I think that alone implies that's not necessarily gonna be the case

I'm guessing it'll be at most a district/neighborhood ala The Narrows. Penguin will benefit from it.

And, the fallout with be felt across Gotham. Will let other costumed criminals rise up.

Can we talk about Batman's boots for a second? I was loving every time we saw him approaching some goons like he was a gunslinger in the old west.

OMG, his intro when he approached the goons in that train station was INCREDIBLE. The tension, the sound design, I literally was getting anxiety myself as you heard him steadily approaching and his theme was swelling and swelling. That was masterful filmmaking right there and an excellent way to bring in this Batman.

Especially when he was walking towards the Penguin when was flipped over, you can even hear some spurs sound effects.

Personally I love it when we as the viewer are essentially put in the shoes of whatever thug or villain Batman is about to get the drop on and almost feel the same fear that they do. Reeves and Pattinson really delivered that in spades on a level I don't think has really been seen in live action since the first Burton movie.

It seems like a Matt Reeves trademark.

In Let Me In you pretty much have a scene where Riddler is in Colson's car and the car crash with Penguin.
