The Batman Spoiler Discussion Thread

Give me Mr. Freeze (Woody Harrelson) and Solomon Grundy (Dave Bautista) as new villains in the sequel, along with a return of Oswald Cobblepot (Colin Farrell) and Joker (Barry Keoghan). There’s a war brewing on the still-flooded streets of Gotham City as the ‘freaks’ step out of the shadows and into the conflict for control of the underworld.

A loose adaptation of Mask of the Phantasm with elements of Dark Victory, No Man’s Land, and Under the Red Hood…

I was thinking earlier that if Robin is introduced, wouldn't it be best for it to be in the sequel? Or do you guys think a 3rd film would suit it more? I'm kinda torn tbh. I feel like there's so much left to explore in the world and as much as I want to see Robin, I want to see other villains too.

The character gets introduced in movie 2, they become Robin in movie 3 (maybe even at the end) would be the best way to do it imo

Batman trapped in Arkham with the freaks in a sequel honestly sounds more like Dredd (which is awesome and I still need a damn sequel) than Die Hard.

Two-Face is what's due for a proper villain arc.

But with so many active players from the first film already, I don't know if I'm itching for his inclusion. Save for Joker, I can live without any of the previous Nolan villains making an appearance.

Honestly, I don’t even need the Joker. I’m interested to see Reeves’ interpretation of lesser known villains.

Maybe…give Mr. Freeze some redemption and make his character absolutely TRAGIC.

Dent was so perfectly portrayed in TDK that I can’t imagine anyone topping it.

He was..

I could be wrong but I could’ve sworn that Nolan wanted Dent to be scarred at the very end of TDK to setup the third film. I wouldn’t mind seeing Reeves go down that path

If I'm not mistaken, the original outline that Goyer was pitching involved Joker being on trial in the third film and scarring Dent then. I think they ended up deciding to consolidate all of that, which gave us TDK's ending.

Dent/Two-Face is tricky. It's an important character in the mythos, and I could easily see him fitting into this world. On the other hand, there are so many other villains that could be explored.

I know people complain that we didn't get enough actual "Two-Face" in the Nolan trilogy, but it still did such a great take on the character. We get a full Harvey into Two-Face arc. A great twist on his classic origin. Even his coin had an origin and arc. It feels largely definitive to me.

I don't know if we need to rehash and remix his origin all over again. I'd almost rather jump into having a fully formed Two-Face, if we're going to do him. Or introduce Dent but not turn him into Two-Face within this trilogy.

Yeah I'm a bit torn on wanting to see Dents downfall again. It was done so well in TDK, and I feel like it's be rereading old ground. At the same time, a case could be made for them to use him again and show another version of that evolution. I guess it all depends on what makes sense.

I don’t think they need to focus on Dent the way they did in TDK but he can still be in a good supporting role like Farrell’s Penguin

I would probably change it up a bit. Have the opening sequence to be Batman, Gordon and Harvey trying to bust Penguin. Things go horribly wrong and Penguin scars Harvey with acid then gets away. I’d also have Gilda in the movie too, because I feel like she’s a very vital piece to Harvey’s story that adds a lot more depth and emotion to his character.

That would be awesome. I could see Reeves being faithful to the comics and doing the acid court scene.

We already have a definitive Harvey Dent, but we haven't had a definitive Live Action Two Face yet. Having him already be disfigured is much better than redoing his origin.

Given the old rumors that Dent was originally planned for this flick, I wonder if Colson wasn’t Dent in an earlier draft and instead of getting totally blown up, got critically injured and scarred in a similar manner.

I'd love to see them introduce Harvey Dent as an actual friend of Bruce's. Given he was so isolated in this film, if the 2nd film is about him trying to be comfortable living in the spotlight as Bruce again, giving him a solid and dependable friend like Harvey would be a great way to set him up for the eventual tragedy.

Also if Reeves ends up introducing Robin, I reckon it would be great if the following movie gives us Joker as the full villain and end with him killing Robin in a twist on the classic Jason Todd "Death" scene. Especially if it's Dick Grayson or Tim Drake. (And I say this as someone who loves both those characters haha) I think Robin dying would be quite shocking to the non-comic buffs.

My wish list for scenes are -

1.) A Batman scene where he, in costume, plants flowers at his parents' Graves.

We've never had this scene in the entirety of live action Batman films.

And that blows my mind.

2.) Batman visits crime alley again.
When Bruce breaks down at their grave… asking if he can halt his promise, because he fell in love in MOTP is still a holy **** moment.

I think Dent will be in the sequel, he could be perfect in the context of gangs war and broken city needing clean institutional figures.

He could have an alliance with Bats and Gordon like TDK but in a different take, more like in TLH with a structure references to De Palmas' The Untouchables?

Or... I don't know, he could be a side character with the screentime Penguin had in this and then developed in an HBO Max series?

Imagine it, eight episodes on the trial against Maroni (out of the prison after The Batman scandal) where Harvey goes slowly down into his madness.

A character study of a multiple personality disorder in a mix between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

I would love it.

I really can't see Woody as Freeze. I know he worked with Reeves but Freeze shouldn't be southern.
