Oh yes, that was so great, I didn't expect that ! The ending is going to be even longer in the ultimate cut Zack said, I loved that they really took the time to address everything, feels a bit Return Of The King-ish but I LOVE IT

Post nuke Superman looked pretty damn scary. I loved that though. No holding back from Snyder at all.
That was a really pleasant surprise. I know Snyder said a lot of scenes in DKR will be adapted even though the story will be completely different, but I didn't know he went that deep into it.

When the Warner bros logo came up, I whispered to my wife "I just want to see superman smile when he is saving someone." When he rescued the person from the fire at the day of the dead cavil had this subtle sweet smile on his face and only turned serious when the crowd surrounded him in near worship. Loved it.

Yeah amazing scene. Beautiful aswell.

That was my favourite moment, right out of the Dark Knight Returns. Just epic.

Regarding your nuclear/superman bit: That scene was powerful in varying ways.

1) Superman took the hit not knowing he would come back, holding doomsday in the blast as well as himself. He saw that humanity sacrificed him and his selflessness didn't flinch.

2) What superman didn't know was that humanity wanted him to survive it. When doomsday fell back to earth but not superman, you can hear the sadness in their voices.

Regarding Lex:

When we see Lex again, I hope we get a flashback of his childhood.

2) yes I didn't even think of that, amazing

Lex childhood? Heel yeah sign me up

The movie was not as dark as everyone puts it. Honestly I feel alot of the criticism from this board is way exaggerated, and I almost fell for it before watching the movie. I mean in regards to Batman's killing, I swear naysayers were making it sound like he went straight up to mooks and slit their necks.

I swear people are exaggerating the darkness, the killing, and how not for kids this is. I think most kids would totally love this from just the action alone. Although I can understand why some claims of kids crying can be legit mostly due to Superman's death, but saying the Batman vs Superman fight will scar kids? Get outta here!

Definitely, it wasn't that dark and the killing stuff really didn't bother me. People are to hung up on what's an outdated ideal IMO. If I had a kid say around 7 or 8 I'd have I problem letting them watch this film.

This place and the Internet as a whole just overreact. How dare they do an R rated cut of a Superman film. How dare heroes kill (even in self defence or where there is no choice). Superman has to smile in every scene he's in. He can only fight if he stops destruction. Etc etc. It's just pathetic.

Man, that "Sad Affleck" video has been in my newsfeed all day. It's hilarious, but can't help but feel a little bad for the guy. As far as I'm concerned, he's played the best Batman/Bruce Wayne to date.

"WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME!!!" line was so emotional. I know some griped about that scene, how he just changed his mind so quickly... but think about it, he probably realized in that instant, Superman is just a normal guy with special powers, with a mom, who he loves... Batman saw the human in him, and most likely saw the monster he was becoming. That's what I think. I loved that scene, and the fight.

Someone needs to write Affleck a letter and tell him he did great.

Jimmy Fallon had an interview with him and was like "you're getting great reviews, saying you're the best Batman onscreen'", and he did seem happy about that. He knows ;)

Definitely loved seeing so much from the comics come to life on the screen, especially TDKR stuff. And that Superman/Nuke stuff was beautiful.

I seriously believe the ultimate cut will not only fix the editing issues of the first act (no problem with the rest) but be really the version that everyone should have seen. I'm interested to see if those who don't like it reevaluate it and end up changing their minds.

I think the Ultimate Cut may blow people away,

I also loved how Batman came for Luther in the end. And Luthor is arch-nemesis of Superman.

Hell yeah, that was epic, felt like something we'd have gotten in the animated series.

It's funny cause people complained that MOs didn't deal with the events at the end yet BvS does and people complain. I put it down to people not knowing what they want but just love to complain. Again it's something I put down as pathetic.

I had fears about The Dark Knight Returns influences but thankfully Snyder adapted my favourite aspects of it and left out the stuff I didn't like.

indeed. superman was being challenged so much physically and emotionally in the movie.

he kneeling to lex, collecting his mother photos... so much pain inside...

You know I think one of the reasons I like the film so much is BECAUSE it was kind of ridiculous.
Yes, indeed, nothing was held back.
But when it's just trying to be a comic book movie and have fun and have fight scenes and evil villains with maniacal plans - and maybe touch on a few interesting adult thoughts in the process... I guess i'm much more forgiving :)
My friend, who isn't into comic books and comic book movies, said, it was a very comic booky movie, but I liked it a lot, he wanted to watch it again some time later.
Honestly, I walked out of the film thinking 'This is what i've been missing from superhero films lately!'
Same. It's like it was either Nolan, very realistic and grounded approach or Marvel with their less serious and lighter tone. There was no middle ground, like darker drama or serious tone, but with unhingedness of Marvel. And I got it with BvS. Superior spectacle and serious drama.
The freedom for the story to be a bit 'silly' in places, because it's a comic book story, and that's sometimes half the fun :D
I haven't noticed any silliness, personally.

I really think people are reading to much into that, he looked tired, Amy and Zack did in their interviews too.

He was phenomenal as Bruce Wayne and the Batman, as a combination of the roles he's the best ever in live action for me.

I really hope this doesn't deter him from giving his all into his future Batman appearances. The hate this film is getting is just ridiculous.

I can't wait to see it in IMAX. I just saw it on a 70 foot screen but was much farther back without IMAX projectors. And it was in 3D (only way to get reserved seats). Now that I know the story, I can appreciate the visuals more in IMAX!
I saw it in IMAX. My first ever IMAX. I don't care if the movie was "suppose" to be the worse movie ever, it was worth it to have the trinity be my first IMAX experience. And by the way... I liked the movie. I will see it again in 3D.

So my first IMAX experience, I felt so close that I thought i was in the movie. The screen was floor to ceiling. :wow: NY lincoln sq :woot:

Exactly :)

Anyone else felt that this interpretation of Lex is going to turn into an emissary of Darkseid and not really play base Lex? Especially that ending scene in prison, when he said he's coming, and it's good that the god is gone. That really amped me up for JL.

I would love Darkseid but my immediate thought was Brainiac tbh.

The film did look glorious in IMAX. Sounded great too.

I'll be seeing it again at a regular theater. I don't have an IMAX real close, and a friend wants to go, so I'm going again.

Curious did the death of Bruce's parents feel more emotional than it ever has on screen before to you? It sure did with me. Bruce holding the little girl he saved in Metropolis, him asking where her parents were... her pointing up... man... :( There was some pretty touching scenes in this movie. Maybe I'm just a sap, but whatever. I'm getting older. :o

Loved Alfred taking the piss about finding a Metropolis girl to make Bruce an honest man. :funny:

Tbh, I think that might of been Snyder's best work there. The inter cutting between the death scene and Bruce running into the woods, as well as "A Beautiful Lie" playing, and Bruce's narration was so beautifully done, oh the feels. That track carries so much more emotions now that I've heard it in context

and bruce treasured his employees as family.

the note " you let your family die" on the image of the torn Wayne building. simply brilliant.

Alfred is one funny guy in this film.

And Bruce maybe kinda did (in Diana). I'm actually hoping for a possible WonderBats ship :funny:

When the film reached the senate scene, it turned into something completely different for me, it got so emotional, Supes surrounded by fire, his discussion with Lois before going away for a bit, talking to his dad, the Martha bit, the ending.
Speaking of the senate scene. YES! Senate scene BLEW MY AWAY. After the intro sequence with Metropolis destruction the film slows down, there's plenty of walking and talking. When the senate exploded, I absolutely didn't see it coming. Brilliant way of turning this hipster Lex into Joker-approved homicidal power-hungry maniac. And after that the movie just doesn't stop. Till the very end.
MOS is a superhero film that makes me feel unlike any other, and I got that again here, and I don't find that in other superhero films. I'm not saying that as a dig to MCU films that I LOVE, but having this dark, dramatic, serious tone allows for that kind of emotional moments in a very tangible way.
I appreciate Man of Steel with every viewing more and more.
Having that moment where Clark asks him to save his mother, Bruce losing his cool at the mention of the name, and it being the catalyst that, not only, awakens Bruce's humanity but also makes him realize that Superman, while being a Kryptonian, is still in many ways a human being as well with a mother. That's just brilliant.
Another big unexpected moment.
I cannot wait for the ultimate cut to just bring us more great things, more character stuff like Zack said, more action, slightly more violence, a much different Africa scene, maybe more Clark, more Bruce, maybe more Wallace Keefe, more from the senate hearing scene? Oracle, etc, etc.
I doubt Oracle is there, but looking forward to the rest.

I personally expecting some elaboration on the desert events and Mercy Graves. If there's something else useful - like some pacing fixes, I'm all for it.

One quick visual moment that really was perfectly executed was Martha's pearls being broken by the pistol being fired.

There were times (especially towards the end), I thought about Lex being controlled by Desaad (at least partially).

I am amped for the Mad Max style Bats (that future reminded me of FC, where Darkseid managed to conquer the world).

Hope they go with that (I don't know it would work - maybe have the League spectacularly at first, against Darkseid?).

Note: I hate it when the League beats him right away (like in JL: Origins). Darkseid is one of the main villains, if not the main villain of DCU. Shouldn't be that easy for the League to defeat him,

You know I keep gong to my Twitter feed and the reactions from people on there are so positive. Bare I mind I'm following a lot of people aswel, people I don't know. I think it's very much a divide between fans and critics.

One last thing on critical reviews before I finish on them, isn't it strange how they review a film based off one viewing? I mean you can't always gage a film with one viewing aswell. I just find it ridiculous.

Loved Alfred taking the piss about finding a Metropolis girl to make Bruce an honest man. :funny:

I honestly think Jeremy Irons stole the film, he had me in stitches at times.

Love the idea of this thread. I am gonna unsubscribe from the other threads. I have read enough.

The MoS finale recap from a different perspective was really good imo.

Also the opening sequence of the Wayne deaths, intercutting with Bruce running into the woods was beautifully done, especially with the music and Bruce's narration. Although I thought the Bruce floating thing was a bit much.

That's what I thought for about 2 seconds. Then I remembered Snyder likes his symbolism and then appreciated it after that.
