I didn't hate TDK suit but I thought it missed the purpose of dressing up like a bat. TDK suit, with it's plates and armor, looks like a guy in a suit.

The TDK suit and TDKR suit are exactly the same as far as I know. I thought it generally looked its best in TDKR, and Bale filled it out better too.

It's so weird...I just feel nothing when I look this new Ben image, despite how cool it looks. And I want to feel something so badly. Pretty much a microcosm of my relationship with this whole production right now. It being 2 years away doesn't help matters much.

Star Wars beginning principal photography today was the movie news story that put a smile on my face.

I said roided demon in response to the molded muscle. You asked what's the purpose/advantage in having them over not.

never said two words about how a belt adds or subtracts to that feature. I said the belt being yellow adds nothing to nothing. Unless of course you have a reason for it?

Yes, same goes for the mouth being exposed/scallops on cape, etc... They are aesthetic conceits traditional to the character of Batman. The gold utility belt neither adds nor detracts anything from the imagined "tactical function" of the batsuit in your presented scenario of a "roided demon charging you". The gray suit with a black emblem versus the black suit neither adds nor detracts anything from the "tactical purpose". I just find it funny that this suit is all tradition, and form over function already (which is fine)...but a gold utility belt? TOO MUCH!!!

edit: In your presented scenario of being charged in a dark alleyway by a man dressed as a bat- Is a grey muscle suit, or black armoured suit really going to make a difference in the level of terror they strike into one? What is the upper limit of terror that one can strike dressed in a cape and cowl with pointy ears in a dark alley?

I'm the same way. I don't know what it is, but I'm not exactly hyped up, nor do I have any feelings despite how awesome it looks. In fact, I guess you can say I was underwhelmed.

I just love how the new suit is attempting to sell the idea that this Batman is some sort of creature.

I now know what The Guard means by the "tendons" being molded into the gauntlets. Really awesome.

It truly is a Frankenstien suit. The suit even has swirls that look like fingerprints on it. It's otherworldly. If this Batman depiction is as good as the suit..then Snyder/Terrio got Batman more than Nolan did :wow:

I really like it. Definitely a distinct look from Nolan, which was necessary. The cowl and ears are fantastic, and the (potentially) grey part is awesome. Not a huge fan of the extreme muscle definition, but overall I grade this: badass.

Well played, Mr. Snyder. Well played.

Same. I'll tell you what it is...at least for me. It's just too soon for another reboot. Plain and simple. That's what it keeps boiling down to for me. I need something more than a visual to get me interested and wipe away my unwanted cynicism towards the project. I never had any doubt that Affleck could look like Batman or that Snyder would produce anything less than fanboy porn visually, so this really did nothing for me other than "Oh ok cool, there it is."

It really is like it's a creature of its own.

I just thought of something

What if there's an explanation for the swirl pattern in the film?

It could be a carbon nanoweave material, essentially making it bulletproof and knife proof.

When it comes to the mouth being exposed. I would personally say, it would no doubt be the same reason many army/swat helmets don't cover the mouths. When it comes down to it, the axial skeleton is really what needs to be protected. Same deal with the Captain America costume. This also allows for various rebreathers to be applied with little fuss unless of course the suit already has it's own air supply. It's a different story for robin and the rest. Secondly as I said before, covering batman's mouth really wouldn't be met well by people/fans/trades/faraci..etc. Same as having a batman without a cape. Not without in context explanation. You have both functional and aesthetic rhetoric there.
The belt being yellow/gold...I've yet to hear any such thing.
What's more I've seen plenty of black or non yellow belts in continuity before so you can do this thing and leave none the wiser, as opposed to a cape free batsuit.

I'd be sitting here arguing the same thing about batman running around in a rainbow cape. What's the rhetoric?

That being said, you said 'nothing on the suit is functional'. Just curious, were you being literal?

Thinking you are facing a man in armor vs thinking you are facing some demon hybrid makes a kind of difference. I remember in the original film when they finally shot batman and good a close look at him, they were surprised to find that he was just a man in a suit...
just saying.

You know what I love about the texture of this suit?

It reminds me of a stone gargoyle. I can just imagine Batman sitting amongst the gargoyles on top of a gothic art deco skyscraper, camouflaged within in his element.

Look at the texture on these

^It does look like that. He'd blend in nicely amongst those. Maybe I'll get that gothic look I want in some shots.

Re the TDKR suit - The cowl was reshaped (more shallow/less bulbous) and the neck was thickened up. Other than that and Bale's build, the same as TDK.

I'm sort of where you are on the new suit. Othat than a couple of nitpicks, I think it's great. Really great. I'm extremely excited, but before I get super super duper excited, I need to see it in context, in the movie. I need to know what this Batman is all about. The fact that I've already got my definitive Batman on film (three times) makes the wait much less painful for those that haven't been satisfied by the previous iterations.

can someone manip bale from BB next to batfleck????

Detroit already looks like Gotham though.

I wouldn't change a thing.

Adding a couple gargoyles wouldn't hurt. They don't need to be in every shot, just one nice iconic rooftop shot.

I hope they change a lot. The Detroit skyline (no offense to any denizens) isn't all that impressive compared to New York, Chicago or MoS's Metropolis.

I hope they create a buffed up skyline with CGI and just pepper it with a few buildings from Detroit.

Gotham should be like New York if it had the crime and urban decay of Detroit.

I feel like those scratches on his symbol should be attributed to Catwoman, though I doubt that will be the case. :( :p

Natalie Dormer for Catwoman.
