The BATSUIT Thread

it was part of a leak back in March, but I dont know how true it was. Same leak that said Penguin would be a villain in the film I think, so it could be true.

I remember those days. They said it would look like Dead End. Haha.
Yes hahaha. As if that was the only way it could be done. It will never look good on film until somebody/some filmmaker comes along and proves it can. Thats just the way it Is.

I hope Reeves keeps pushing the envelope for Batman in live action. The white eyes are the next step.

I also wouldn't mind a First appearance-inspired suit. Would be a good way to differentiate him from what has come before

I don't mind drop-down lenses for "detective mode", but why cast an actor the caliber of Pattinson just to cover his eyes? After all, the eyes are the windows to the soul and Pattinson specifically has mastered the art of "outer stillness, inner storm". Granted, it's just a manip, but his eyes are communicating a lot here:

That's still the best manip I've seen, because it actually uses Pattinson's eyes.

Exactly. The white lenses are cool, but they do not emote (unless they go the Deadpool route, which I'm very much against).

That's the point. Batman shouldn't be showing emotion, he's not suppose to look human.

Also an emotive cowl should be in the conversation at this point. We aren't living in 2004 anymore

Kind of contradicting yourself here. And, while Batman is supposed to be like a creature of the night, an emotionless lead character makes for a boring movie.

We have the benefit of a dual identity where that other persona can fill in the emotional gaps.

I’m not sure what type of emotion we’re looking for here. Bats isn’t exactly known for it. And especially if Pattinson is the one behind the cowl, he’s certainly talented enough to express all that is necessary without having to use his eyes.

I think white lenses look cool in the iconographic sense but I’d prefer they have his eyes visible and have lenses occasionally for detective mode or some other variation on that.

An actor can't even express anything with his eyes when he has his face wearing the cowl. What expresses emotion is the muscles around the eyes which you can't see under the mask so it's pointless anyway

Charlie Cox turned in one of the greatest performances in the genre in Daredevil, all without the use of his eyes. Hugo Weaving gave a critically acclaimed performance in V for Vendetta without the use of his face.

I feel like this is an outdated argument that has been disproved time and time again by many different performances, some of which are in the CBM genre. And unfortunately it's going to keep being falsely reinforced until a filmmaker proves otherwise, much like the grey Batsuit.

Robert Pattinson is a character actor and he has said that he likes a challenge, he would do fine as Batman without the eyes of his pupils. In fact, it may allow him to immerse himself in the cowl even more. 'Batman' is suppose to be an inhuman creature, showing visible human emotion through the cowl goes against the idea. A criminal staring into a white glowing void where the pupils would be, would absolutely be more terrifying than a dude in an obvious mask. An uncanny effect that plays into the theatricality

The fact is, it makes wayyy more sense in universe for Wayne to have his eyes covered

Generally speaking, the shots I usually like of Batman the most are the ones in which you rarely actually see his eyes at all, the light surrounding him is always beneficial to his look.

I'd steer clear of lenses for the simple fact that while on paper it sounds great, they would really need to be done well otherwise it could kill the whole look.

Eyeballs by themselves don't express emotion.
Eyelid + Iris movement do though.

I’m not completely against the lenses being used.
I’m actually more for them with Pattinson in mind as Batman. I think they would fit well with the type of Batman I imagine him being.

I think CGI white eyes would work because they'd allow Pattinson to do more things with his facial muscles around the eyes and actually have a way to translate that to screen. It'd also make Batman creepier.

Plus this is directed by the guy that made CGI chimps work, making white eyes work on Batman would be like child's play to him.

Pattinson’s eyes are slits anyway. It’s amazing; his head looks literally pressed in a mold for Classic Batman.

I just want that iconic imagery of Batman perching over a building shrouded in darkness with nothing but white glowing eyes visible CyezSwyW8AAAHsy.jpg

Imagine how eerie it would be for a criminal to look up and see that

It's time

I really don't think Reeves is gonna be using the blue because blue isn't exactly the first color to come to mind when thinking about noir.

Are you under the impression that this film is black and white or something?

Blade Runner is a noir and it's filled with blue tones.

Im talking about the noirs Reeves has referenced. He's never talked about Blade Runner as a reference
