The BATSUIT Thread

So much yes.

I want long ears and something less archaic-looking overall. I mean it looks like late 70s sci-fi. Not a fan of the vacuum-pressed abs either.

How about this one?

Perfect for a Blade Runner-esque environment.

That looks really awesome, would take longer ears but otherwise yeah...i could live with that.

Really hoping for something Jim Lee-ish this time around, just without the sculpted muscles lameness (that being said, no more goddamn Nolan-sequels plate-armor crap either).

That sort of color scheme for the bodysuit (pretty unlikely they'd ever go blue for the cowl/cape though, so black'll be fine), good ear length. I could go either way on the symbol, black or classic yellow circle, might be nice to get the yellow again. Big prominent utility belt.

Cast someone a little less hefty, more agile, play up the ninja stuff & theatricality again for the first time since Begins. Throw Batman in some halfway point between Begins-Gotham and Burton-Gotham (something like the Gotham show), we're good to go.

Blue and grey would only work if they graded the movie a certain way. It'd never fly in something like Nolan's films. But you put it in a movie with blue color grading ala Blade Runner, it'd look wonderful.

Yeah. We've seen the gray suit work well with Affleck's guy though (and honestly the black with Bale's was sort of muted/matte anyway, not shiney-jet-black like Keaton's/Kilmer's/Clooney's).

I always just took the blue in the comics to designate black anyway. So yeah, while a really dark-blue would be cool if only for something different, it's never gonna happen. A prominent shiney Keaton-black for the cowl would be cool by me, more leather-y type of cape (honestly, I could even do without the pragmatic stiffening-fabric-so-he-can-glide stuff this time around, I know he does it in the books but after two versions able to do that I'd be cool if it's just a friggin' theatrical fashion-accessory and he just gets around with the grappling hook and uber-ninja-skillz), with a gray bodysuit maybe a shade or two lighter than Affleck's.

But yeah, a less-cyber-punk-more-noir Blade Runner's a great starting point for Gotham. Begins had it right, but just lean another 20% into that and not be afraid to get a little nuts with it. Doesn't have to be full-on Fritz Lang like the 90s animated series, that's a little too crazy and that'd basically have to be all CG. But like a more grounded take on that, with the same vibes. Nice halfway point between Begins and Dark City or whatever. That'd allow some lee-way to not worry quite so much about "realism" with the suit too, easier to swallow some of the theatrical stuff, maybe even the eye lenses (though eye lenses have never been a hill I'll die on, works just fine without 'em too - but might be cool here if only because it hasn't been done yet).

As far as creating a unique Gotham City, Blade Runner 2049 is just the most recent example of what approach to take.

Probably (well, definitely) a little too tech-and-neon, but if you did that in a 1940s-meets-2018 hybrid thing instead, absolutely.

I meant as far as creating a fictitious city that doesn't look like it was all done in a computer, Blade Runner 2049 is a good example to follow (Villeneuve used miniatures and bigatures). Aesthetically speaking, I don't necessarily want Gotham to look exactly like Los Angeles in Blade Runner 2049.

I don't want Gotham City to remind me of anything, really. I want it to be wholly unique.

This...... this is perfection to me.

Off-topic, but this statue arrived at my workplace last month. Still haven't had time to get it to my house because I've got zero room for it. This thing is huge.

The problem with the Blade Runner approach is you're limited to closed off areas and that does tend to make the setting feel small. All the wide and panning shots of the film are entirely CG, and almost always establishing shots only.

I want to have entire sequences take place out and all over the city. As much as I didn't like how normal the city looked in Nolan's two sequels, I very much appreciated how large it felt precisely because they were out in physical locations. And at this point in time, that can't be replicated on a computer.

Oval isn't the best idea if it's not something deeply stylized. If the new Batman is a departure from gritty realism of Nolan, then by all means. Dark version of Batman demands aesthetic and tonal consistency, imo.

Real talk. I'm just so excited about the possibilities.

Here's a couple actor options for a Batman wearing a dark blue cowl color graded somewhat like Bladerunner 2049 as has been suggested. I'd love both of these guys in the role, but the top one is a clear winner to me... Also, a dark blue cowl looks freaking awesome, and we have to get the eyes. BatCohen.pngBatHoult.png

Also for fun... Batman with some kind of face guard / rebreather on. I don't ever want to see a fully covered Batman mask, but I do think it would be cool to see in a few scenes. I mean it just makes sense to me that if he was going up against some serious ****, dude would cover his face!!! BatMask.png
