The BATSUIT Thread

A guy who has a flexible stealth suit, who can jump, run easily ( like on the rooftops ) and who can blend into the shadows can achieve that effect imo

To be more precise, if there is a misunderstanding, i didnt mean that people would buy, that he is a demonic super powered guy, (even more, with the time passing) but a mysterious (and scary) force of the night.
And a bulky, militaristic combat suit (Bermejo) does not lend itself to that image. If Batman is truly going to be this supernatural force that can sweep criminals up into the night and run from rooftop and jump around, then thr suit should not be weighing him down with straps upon plates and armor.

We've never seen a truly agile Batman on film

And it will be even harder if he looks like a guy in tights or spandex. Worse yet, it becomes harder to take the film seriously if it's trying to tell a grittier story if the suit doesn't look like it could take a beating.

Yup, this is the key. It's far more about overall presentation and theatricality. Certain elements of the Batsuit play into that, primarily the Cape and Cowl (what silhouette is given, how well the cape hides away the more human qualities of Batman's form), but it's also in how the scenes are presented cinematically from the director and their crew.

Eh, this is debatable.

Also I find it fascinating that you keep arguing that a more tactical Batsuit wouldn't be mobile enough, seeing as how part of why Bermejo draws his suits in that way is for Batman to be more versatile, while still enabling him to be able to move.

"I’ve always seen the Batsuit as being functional, urban soldier attire mixed with all the standard Batman bells and whistles. It needs to maintain the basic color design scheme always present in the classic Batman look, so grey and black with a touch of yellow (or in my case, tanned leather). I like the idea that it can look sleek yet maintain a ‘looser fit’ look in certain places to allow for some movement. Don’t see tights as being very functional for a guy that needs to be able to handle multiple types of situations. I DO like the idea of some sort of armor present. Lately, I have reverted back to chainmail to take him to more of his dark ‘knight’ roots, but I also like the aesthetic that kevlar plating or something of that nature. A guy who plans on surviving the night. That said, I think the simpler the shapes are the better. The moment the suit becomes too complex you start to lose the basic structure of that classic Batman look."

Because you seem to have in mind a litteral Bermejo suit. To take an exemple, it would be more akin in a way to the Captain America winter soldier suit ( and i have no doubts that it would be a stealthier suit, darker, less militaristic of course )

Weird that Bermejo rhinks his suits are sleek. I mean, I guess sleekness is subjective? Because the baggy, militaristic combat style does not scream supernatural creature. It screams "Guy in combat fatigues". Which Bermejo himself says is the entire point. Wanting his Batman to look like a soldier

I mean, speaking personally, Batman has to strike a balance between "tactical" and "supernatural," which is quite tricky considering how obviously contradicting they are. Moreover though, just recreating the comics Batsuits in skintight fabrics doesn't look the least bit supernatural to me either. He just looks like a man in a silly costume in that scenario to me.

To me, you need to have a Batsuit that looks convincing to the audience (hence the tactical elements) and can also be hidden away enough/obscured enough into something looking and feeling supernatural to the characters around Batman in-film.

Pattinson is not that big, so this suit would not look as impressive on him.

A suit in a similar style as Black Panther could look appropriate for a movie as could a design akin to Spider-Man PS4 materials.

Why does the Bermejo thing keep getting brought up?
Rumors of its influence on the Batsuit. Same kinda talk we got before BVS too really. I hate that it has influence as much as I hate the influence of TDKR on Batman films and really the character in the last 30 years.

There’s a bit of irony in my perspective:

We are finally at a point where you could probably make a believable “fabric” style Batman suit for Pattinson that would look cool and comic accurate (the Snyderverse suit and Black Panther both show that)...

...But I don’t want something that sleek and “super heroic” now.

I want rough, armor-looking stuff for a Batman to get beaten up in and where it’s abudnanlty clear that the armor is keeping him alive in a way that simple but cool looking fabric wouldn’t.

I *do* want to see a more comic-looking costume... but later, after this movie.

I really liked the Captain America-esque suit that was posted a few pages back.

Something less sleek is fine as long as he doesn't look like a homeless cosplayer.

Mid length ears for me...especially if RPatz hasn't bulked up a ton. Super long ears might just emphasize how skinny he is, and wouldn't look good. Shorter ears fits a slimmer build imo.

So the Mandalorian?

So the Mandalorian?
Yup.

There’s a lot of storytelling you can do with a costume *and* a costume change. One of the things I *do* like about Lee Bermejo’s art is how the suit in his art tells you seomthings about his Bruce Wayne... in the same way that Keaton’s suit told you something about his Bruce Wayne and how the Snyderverse suit was supposed to tell you something about Batfleck. Bale’s Batman had a storytelling part of his costume change, but it was largely a utilitarian change.

I want something where Batman’s first suit conveys some of the struggle and adaptability he’s had in his first few years - something to say that he’s had to make changes for utilitarian purposes, has seen a few campaigns come and go, but has a reliable and dependable armor and arsenal now.

Stuff like an exposed cape/glider harness attached to his cowl, loaded gloves that aren’t integrated into gauntlets like usual, beaten up body armor, and an asymmetrical utility belt? That would tell you this guy’s seen some stuff, has outlasted most of his opponents, and is still trucking... but is feeling some of his mileage.

Then, after he emerges from this film triumphant, if still beaten up, he reinvigorates himself with a new suit that plays into the adjustments he’ll make to his strategy. Not just new material with more utilitarian elements - I’d love seeing him deliberately redesign his mask/helmet, for instance, to be more intimidating after he realizes that his legend is growing and he can terrify people.

That sounds really cool. I wouldn't mind if the first suit is not sleek or complete-looking if it's meant to serve a story telling purpose. The Mandalorian suit is a good example too.

The main thing I want is a dynamic Batman; a Bruce Wayne who actually changes in a believable way. That’s kind of what separates the good Batman films from the bad ones. Having a visual change to work with a reinforce Pattinson’s acting in that would be a tremendous benfit.

You'd love the Telltale series.

Rumors that have proven to be false.

That sounds more like someone who had moderately good training in the police force and then the military, vs someone who trained with the League of Shadows. The impression I'm getting here is that you want a rough, battle weathered Batman who takes a beating from criminals and comes home barely clinging to life after a long night's work.

The thing is, Batman should still be good enough to not have to resortt to getting into a slugfest with some brute or being able to dodge gun fire to avoid getting shot in the chest.

We've always seen Batman portrayed on film as a human being grounded in reality

Great point. He sure, takes damage at times but enough of his encounters he's fully in control.
