The BATSUIT Thread

Took 2 more screenshots. Because it's so blurry it's hard to tell, but you can kinda make out the 1939 ears indeed:

The fact that we're even thinking that the ears might be a modernized take on the 1939 cowl is now a possibility feels like a huge testament to how much of a fan Reeves is of Batman and how different this Batsuit is shaping up to be from previous live action costumes.

Okay, the fact that it's covered in fabric makes me like it a little bit more. But why the angular aesthetic? They could have had fabric-covered rigid plates and still had more rounded shapes. Going way back to the criticisms of the Nolan suits here, but I just don't think Batman should ever look so robotic - unless it's for a specific "alternate" suit, rather than the "main" one.

I'd love if they included the purple gloves in some capacity. At least in a flashback or something.

As I've said before, I want the purple gloves but only as an easter egg like as a prototype pair in the batcave

I agree. It’s a really, really odd choice here. Something 100% home-made and organic, or as you suggested, fabric covered as an encompassing aesthetic feels like it would absolutely rule. Mashing up Count Dracula and Robocop is just so bizarre. That pic of Adam West’s Head on the Arkham suit body really sums it up. Holding the faith here, but it’s very, very strange.

As questionable as some of the design choices of The Batman 2004 cartoon were... I do like the "claws" idea for the gloves:

Furthers the creature of the night myth, and it's also practical. If it has the 1939 ears, and with that creepy look on the face with Pattinson's eyes, I feel it'd match pretty well

I can’t wait to see him glide through the skies. It’s one of the many things Nolan did that was awesome! I would love to see more of it

*If this is true* Awesome that we’re going to see the OG Bat ears. Detective Comics!

See to me doing a darker version of the West cowl is neat.

I don't actually know or believe that's what they were going for, it's just kinda come off that way at least with the initial shots to me anyway given the shape & those stitching lines.

It might look fine, I want to see the ears & how it looks in a little better lighting. From a design perspective what worries me is this was a poorly lit shot & IMO that's where Batman should look his best when you can only really see more of a silhouette with little bits of detail here & there. The mask is for me the only thing that really spoiled the initial shot, but as I said, I want to see more of it, the ears will be really what could make or break the cowl for me.

When you look at this, and the Netflix DD costume, and the TDK one... there seems to be a thing of "we NEED to do something weird with the pectoral area. It can't just look like normal rounded chest muscles. It HAS to have some weird angular component or diagonal division or differently coloured areas or SOMETHING". Is there really anything wrong with just having a relatively plain normal chest with a symbol on it? Surely the symbol should be the main decorative element, not everything around it.

The more I look at this the more it seems like the 1939 ears. View attachment 31872 View attachment 31873

I'd be cool with this version of the 1939 ears, but there are other "versions" of the 1939 ears which just look kinda janky. They're at weird angles, are too far down on the side of his head and just have a weird curve about them, like the two examples I put below. So long as they look more akin to your example than mine, I could dig it.

I just hope they don't go with purple gloves, but i'm all in for 1939 ears.

We've had 8 movies with the traditional, straight-lined ears. What's wrong with doing something fresh for at least one movie?
I'm open to the idea if it's done well and fits the film. But the way I imagine it - I don't want it.
