The BATSUIT Thread

I didn't have a problem with Val's Batman suit at all and the Robin suit wasn't too bad either. I think it's because of Batman & Robin that nobody want to give Batman Forever no props. The movie was silly yes but it has some good moments too. While Batman & Robin had the Alfred moments and Hmmmm well Uma Thurman and Vivica A. Fox was hot!!! That is all oh yeah it had Coolio and the soundtrack had that Bones N Thugs song lol
Yeah , the Bruce-Alfred moments were GREAT , on par with the ones in the Nolan trilogy . I think that Clooney deserved a serious script and a better costume , he would have been right on the money at that time .

The cowl and the suit have such contrasting aesthetics. One is a homemade, sewn (?) leather mask and the other is a militaristic body armor. I wonder if this was intentional to make it feel like Bruce is still sort of "feeling" his way through making the Batsuit i.e "i need some body armor, so I'll glue some plates to a kevlar undersuit. Oh, and I need a mask, that envokes a Bat"

That's the only way I could see it workinh

It's because Matt Reeves choose a strong Adam West influence in the cowl because he grew up with the show.

I know Clooney deserve better then what he got and to be real so did Joel because he wanted to make a serious dark Batman film. We all know he can do comedies and can do some real dark films. To be director friendly WB sure like to jerk their directors and actors around.

Anyone familiar with Schumachers work knows he could’ve done a great, dark Batman movie. It’s too bad we never got a chance to see it. Batman Unchained would’ve been darker from what I heard

Omg dude Batman Unchained sounded so awesome and he would had totally redeemed himself. Instead the poor guy just keep taking all the blame and keep apologizing to fans. Even though it was WB forcing him to make those films light. My fave Clooney film is From Dusk Til Dawn,he was so cool and badass. I was so hyped for him as Batman only to get the short end of the stick. I know him and Joel would had people still talking to this day if Batman Unchained was made!

Another fanart, but I think it nails the actual nose a lot better than previous renditions:

This is fantastic

I suspect the contrasting aesthetics are intentional and the key to them balancing out is the baggy army pants. So it isn't a rougher mask on top of a high-tech body, it's really just the body armour that looks like advanced military equipment. I'm not saying its a prototype suit in that he's going to get a new one in the film, but it probably is meant to evoke him figuring it out as you said.

Completely agree. An angry mob may set upon me for saying this but Schumacher's filmography paints him as a better candidate to direct a Batman film than Burton. I'm not sure if Schumacher had a great Batfilm in him but he was a solid, '90s studio guy who made some excellent thrillers.

Even though Schumacher on paper was perfect to direct a Batman movie, he'd have never made a good Batman movie even if he was given free reign by WB to make a dark movie because Schumacher saw Batman as a fetish. WB didn't force him to include the nipples and ass and crotch shots of Batman and Robin. He just didn't have a good perspective on Batman.

Batman Forever is terrible. I liked it as a kid, but I rewatched it a couple of years ago and ... Batman & Robin is at least funny. Batman Forever is just boring.

He already made a good Batman movie though. Batman Forever is awesome. Lowkey my favorite Batman movie.
Its cheesy as hell but also satisfying! I know its easy to look down on it and make fun of it. The movie has it dumb moments and it also has it cool moments as well. On a good weekend its fun to watch all three movies!..PS Wish they would give that the director's cut treatment, they cut a lot of good characters development and dark moments from the movie!

The deleted scenes are good, but the tonal whiplash the film already suffers from would've been unreal if those deleted scenes had made it in.

I know I'm surprise WB didn't do a re-release Director's Cut Dvd..Nah come to think about it I'm not shock at all WB didn't do a Director's cut dvd lol
Batman Forever is pretty awesome as is, cheesyness and all. It could've been genuinely great with some changes.
I agree! With a little changes it would had been so much better and a pretty solid trilogy!

The thing is that I don't think that Schumacher would've done those changes had he been given free reign, I think there'd perhaps be less commercialism but based on a lot of the instincts he showed on those films as to how to portray Batman, he'd have still made something questionable, maybe even moreso than the studio-driven product that he produced.

Yeah he was force by the studio to make Batman Forever and Batman & Robin the way their were. Matter fact he said he loved the tone of the first films. I just hate that he took all of the blame for what WB wanted. Oh well Joel still made Batman Forever enjoyable for what it was and well Batman & Robin that's all on WB.

I don't think all of Batman and Robin is on WB, nor all the bad parts of Batman Forever.

The ass shots at the beginning of Batman and Robin, the nipples, I mean, that's all Schumacher. Sure, he was trying to satisfy commercialism as well in those films, but his footprint was all over the aesthetic of them.

Good point! I kinda forgot about the nipples and the booty shots lol. I guess we can be fair and say it was both of their faults. Even though if WB didn't push for a light cheesy film,I don't think Joel would had put the ass shots in the movies. Now the nipples probably would had stayed lol

Have you seen either of the Schumacher films yet?

The man has a body of work like CarWash,The Lost Boys(own the soundtrack!),A Time To Kill,St. Elmo's Fire,Falling Down,Flatliners,Sparkle(he wrote Sparkle and The Wiz!!!),The Wiz etc. It's because of WB pushing him to make Batman light, people tend to forget about that guy was making great films before Batman Forever and Batman Robin.Plus he has some underrated movies after them also!

He's not a bad filmmaker, just a bad fit for Batman.

My only condition for watching a Batman film is that the batsuit doesn't have nipples and both Schumacher films fail at that. I just dislike his insticts waaaay too much to stomach his films completely

I mean you talk about movies that you haven’t even seen an awful lot.

The Schumacher films are a huge part of Batman’s history, absolutely essential viewing, whether you like them or not.

for my money, Suicide Squad and Justice League are way worse than either Schumacher film
