The BATSUIT Thread

I’m looking at some Alex Ross Batman and I’m realizing how similar to open jawline is to Pattinson’s cowl.

Yeah, I don't think that is coincidence. Ross was famous for using live models and his highly realistic art style requires a lot of knowledge and thought about how real objects and materials work in movement. I think the iconic comics version of the cowl opening just doesn't work in real life. Having the edge of the opening mid-cheek just causes problems when opening the mouth and speaking. You likely get lots of weird gaping and such.

I think the Ross/Pattinson style opening is probably the only way to get the overall affect of the traditional opening from a variety of angles in live action without having weird and unsightly gaping and other anomalies. It works better because it uses the natural lines and edges of the face to anchor the opening.

The Keaton suits look amazing when he stands still but they're so ungodly stiff and nonfunctional.
The movement Keaton uses to make the suit work, with the whole Knight like turns ... honestly makes him psychologically, and visually intimidating. Especially with his piercing eyes.

I also don’t see the 1939 inspiration in the cowl that some people are claiming.

The chest logo is obviously the most inspired, and to me, out of all the on screen iterations of Batman to come out, even potentially having a backstory or function, makes it more well thought out and cool.

Da Bat gawd, Nolan, didn’t even give that aspect logic or verisimilitude. Which is saying something.

Plus I love the design of the chest logo. Modern take on the original 1939 logo. Also if it’s made out of the gun that killed his parents, even better. Bravo.

But I was severely hoping we would get the Bill Finger 1939 ears that go outward. The face sculpt, and big caveman smooth round forehead is reminiscent of it, but the ears are ... definitely not.

The ears on the cowl are the most awkward, unlikable and disappointing thing for me visually.

Next worst is the traditionally weaponized metal gauntlet spikes just ending up being three straps for the forearm guards. Takes a level of menace and threat out of the suit for me. Three LIMP gauntlet straps? Ugh. Gross.

I was praying for the 1939 ears and silhouette to visually distinct itself from all movie Batmen that has come before.

Especially after we saw the tease, with the 1939 chest logo. I think they dropped the ball big-time there. Out of all the pictures we’ve seen on site, the ears look derpy, and odd.

Even more weird than the night owl ears from the justice league bat-suit. Which I didn’t even think would be possible to be more aesthetically displeasing.

Perhaps not as detailed as some renderings, but...

Still waiting on a closeup shot of Pattinson in costume. I know there are a lot of real world issues happening right now but damnit Reeves we are starving.
At this point... July, maybe?

We’re not getting a full-fledged SDCC, so maybe the creatives behind a lot of these upcoming projects will feel like throwing us a bone.

And, where this is concerned, I don’t even need footage. I just want to see the cast in costume.

If they know filming is starting up soon by then I don’t think it’d be too surprising if they dropped something for the digital SDCC.

Yeah. Again, there are bigger things happening right now, but throwing us a bone sure would give us something positive to hang our hat on. Some sliver of light in the tunnel, ya know?

The quarantine itself hasn't bugged me all that much, but the movie and sports industries being on indefinite hold has been slowly killing my soul.

I found this cosplay suit, and it's probably got the best example of a live action bodysuit I've seen that was NOT based on a movie version. And yes it's black, so if you're prefer grey like I would, it would be an easy change.

I still think it's unneccessary for the musculature to be so human - it should have rounded and organic shapes, but it doesn't HAVE to be this defined and "natural" (also why is the right pec deformed?), but that would be a minor change too.

But anyway I thought it was interesting to see something at least a little different, and done to a fairly high standard.

Looks like the Batman Inc suit with a new coat of paint

Shame we didn't get to see more of that suit, btw. The New 52 crushed it too soon. It was a real nice blend of something modern + the yellow oval serving a purpose.

But at least we're seeing something similar come back in Three Jokers (and Dooomsday Clock on and off)

I’ll be interested to see how the lower half looks officially up close.

All the set pics and especially in the above render makes it look like it’s part of an entirely different type of outfit. The material and styling don’t really mesh, with the top being segmented armor and the bottom being cargo pants and some straps.

The segmented armour on the top is OVER a bodysuit that all looks like the pants though. He's basically wearing a jumpsuit with armour over it.
