I also don’t see the 1939 inspiration in the cowl that some people are claiming.
The chest logo is obviously the most inspired, and to me, out of all the on screen iterations of Batman to come out, even potentially having a backstory or function, makes it more well thought out and cool.
Da Bat gawd, Nolan, didn’t even give that aspect logic or verisimilitude. Which is saying something.
Plus I love the design of the chest logo. Modern take on the original 1939 logo. Also if it’s made out of the gun that killed his parents, even better. Bravo.
But I was severely hoping we would get the Bill Finger 1939 ears that go outward. The face sculpt, and big caveman smooth round forehead is reminiscent of it, but the ears are ... definitely not.
The ears on the cowl are the most awkward, unlikable and disappointing thing for me visually.
Next worst is the traditionally weaponized metal gauntlet spikes just ending up being three straps for the forearm guards. Takes a level of menace and threat out of the suit for me. Three LIMP gauntlet straps? Ugh. Gross.
I was praying for the 1939 ears and silhouette to visually distinct itself from all movie Batmen that has come before.
Especially after we saw the tease, with the 1939 chest logo. I think they dropped the ball big-time there. Out of all the pictures we’ve seen on site, the ears look derpy, and odd.
Even more weird than the night owl ears from the justice league bat-suit. Which I didn’t even think would be possible to be more aesthetically displeasing.
