Guardians of the Galaxy The Benicio Del Toro Thread - Who Is He Playing?

Wow. He makes it sound like Chris Pratt might help ease us away from RDJ.

Kinda odd that "he doesn't know what that orb is." YEAH RIGHT JAMeS GUNN!

Well Pratt is a very charismatic, engaging, lovable, and funny guy. I think this opportunity is long overdue for him.

I got MAJOR [blackout]"Fifth Element" vibes from BDT and the mid-credits scene[/blackout], and I loved it. I feel like the Thor franchise might be a more "classical" approach to the cosmic MCU, while Guardians will be the rock n' roll side of things.

I like your choice of words...."the rock 'n' roll side of things." We know that "Hooked On A Feeling" obviously ties in to the actual story; and James Gunn seems like a rock 'n' roll kind of filmmaker who'll give GOTG a soundtrack of, you know, real songs we all know and love (or hate), instead of a traditional instrumental score. I certainly hope he takes this route.

YES! i was waiting for leelu to be in one of the chambers. so much camp in bdt's performance. it was like the thor actors didn't know that they were in teh same movie universe. i didn't know what to think.

Wait...Hooked On A Feeling is going to be a legitimate part of the film?!

Maybe. In the Comic-Con footage "Hooked On A Feeling" was playing in his 80's walkman.

Hah.

It's actually the Blue Swede cover recorded in 1974. They were the ones who added the "Ouga Chaka" to the original B.J. Thomas version.

Since Star Lord's apparently a bit stuck on the 80's, I would kinda love it if the movie were punctuated by the rock music from around that time. The same way Tony Stark is characterized by AC/DC, Quill could be all 80's hair metal or glam rock or something. Seems like something Gunn would do, imo.

Hell, Gunn could just steal the whole OST to the original Heavy Metal animated flick and it'd fit just fine in my book. :word:

Great comparsion. I love The Fifth Element. "Multipass!" :woot:

I will say that del toro was very unnerving in his portrayal as the collector. Something creepy about him.

I am officially interested in this movie now. I was transfixed by his performance and appearance.

Very odd indeed. He was creepy. The one female alien(not the pink one) that looked like she was doll on a music box was kind of creepy too...to me at least. I am very intrigued for this movie.

I just really hope they have an intriguing plot that spurns curiosity throughout the film and not more focused on cool sci-fi effects. I'm not overly concerned though. I'm sure this movie will be a classic. I really have to get back to the theater and see The Dark World again, that's for sure.

I saw The Dark World with a friend on Sunday. When discussing the film later, he said something along the lines of, "I liked the Bowie influence on del Toro's character." He made a viable assessment, haha.

Just got out of Thor The Dark World (WHICH I LOVED OMG OMG OMG!!), and yep! I definitely got a lot of
Fifth Element vibes, as well as a little Star Wars cantina scene, maybe Serenity too from BDT and his collection. Wow! I definitely want to see more of The Collector.

Personally, it's great. I can already see the Gunn style seeping through, and it's going to be completely and utterly different from what Marvel's done before.

Rock n' roll side of Marvel's cosmic universe is a very good description.

In Slither, Air Supply was a big part of that movie.

I would give up my right kidney if Quill were super into 80's Australian pop!

Holy crap. I can definitely see that. Bowie's Goblin King in space. Ha. I dig it.

Funny, I thought Del Toro looked a bit like a cross between Christopher Walken in Batman Returns and Javier Bardem in Skyfall. Whatever the influences, I loved the way he looked.

Yeah, that's what first came to mind when I said I thought it would be a very James Gunn thing to do. I guess he would have been a teenager during that era, so it would make sense if that's just naturally where his musical sensibilities tend to lean.

:funny: That would certainly be...unexpected.
