The Best Movie Action Sequences Thread

Fist Fight..........Shane.
Sword fight........Tie between The Adventures of Robin Hood Errol Flynn / Basil Rathbone and The Mark of Zorro Tyrone Power / Basil Rathbone.
Don't think anyone's mentioned Rocky.

I would start counting from when she cut off Sophies arm to her walking out to the garden

yeah that sounds about right. that whole chapter is brilliant though even before she cuts off sophies arm, theres that long tracking shot of the 88s going to the room then the Bride going to the bathroom, then sophie going to the bathroom. Its not necessarily exciting but the way the camera moves is awesome.

It is quite a great long take that you do not normally see in movies these days.

very true, i think long takes are coming back into fashion however. I heard Terminator Salvation used one which is extremely rare for an action flick yet alone a summer blockbuster action flick

'Rocky Balboa' possibly had the best fight of the series.

Id agree...Children of Men and Atonement really showcased the long take and how it's a really effective tool when you get it right

Aw man, both of those were spectacular, especially the Atonement scene. I wonder how many takes they did cause it was amazing how many extras and animals they had.

Every scene in The Matrix(New Millenia), Die Hard(1990s), First Blood (1980s), and Bullet(1970s). films that changed the face of action movies.

Honorable mentions to:

Heat shootout
Transformers Finale
X2 wolverine in mansion
Star Wars death star trench
opening to indiana jones
Bourne fights that guy with the pen, and then against desh
Terminator 2 finale tho the first is a better film
Star Trek 09 opening (most beautiful action scene I've seen in a while)
Speed Racer opening race
v for vendetta finale
Dark Knight Batpod sequence
Jurassic Park Trex escapes

Don't like:

Movies that rip off other movies, I'm straight up tired of die hard and matrix rip offs I want something fresh

i curse everyone in this thread for not naming ONE wachowsky bros movie!!
especially the most espensive car chase in history in Reloaded.

Maxtrix Reloaded freeway scene is a given. Some of us think pre CGI first that's all.

Multiple sequences in The Blues Brothers, the closest thing to a live action Looney Tune ever.

Superman Returns - Plane Rescue scene

Spider - Man 2 and 3 - All the fighting scenes.

The Incredible Hulk - Last Battle

Matrix Reloaded - Neo versus hundreds of Agent Smith

I'm gonna go with the wildcard here and say 'Ghostbusters' probably has my favourite "Ghost" action sequence ever, so far. The Slimer chase throughout the building blew me away back when I was a kid, and I still enjoy it to this very day.

300- King Leonides slow-mo...and basically every other scene in the film!

the car chases in the first two bourne films.

the motorcyles attacking and the war scene in the refugee camp in children of men.

the end skirmish in full metal jacket.

the big storm in back to the future.

the bike chase in E.T.

for fight scenes big fan of bruce and brandon lee.

the asteroid field in empire. favorite star wars music too.

the bike chase in the back lot in pee wees big adventure.

the clown fight and final face off in akira.

the prison break in natural born killers.

the building explosion in die hard.

the train station standoff in the untouchables.

all of the blues brothers.

the end of the original terminator.

the crane collapse in the abyss.

the morpheus rescue in the first matrix.

the truck chase in raiders. heck, most of raiders.

the aliens first attack and ripley rescuing the marines in aliens.

the plane catch in superman returns.

the french connection.

t rex in jurrasic park.

the joker truck chase in the dark knight and the hong kong kidnapping.

the final truck battle in the road warrior.

the death star attack in jedi.

the oil rig fire in there will be blood.

the last shot in united 93.

Many people may not agree with me, but fight scene between Zack and Tina in Dead or Alive was really good.

First Blood Part 2 - From Co's death onwards is just relentless balls out action, the likes of which we don't see anymore. No heavy CGI or effects, just one man strategically taking out an entire army.I still get chills during the "camoflauged mud" scene. It doesn't get more over the top and balls out than this entire sequence.

Commando - It's clear from the start that John Matrix is one dangerous ma-effer.Little by little we see him unleash in tiny bits, until the finale where the guy just goes nuts with machine guns, rocket launchers, explosives, knives and steel pipes.Arnie's best action movie ever.

The first fightscene in Kill Bill vol. 1 was one of the best chick fights I've seen on film. Uma and Vivica did amazing I wish it wasn't interrupted by the little girl coming home.

The fight scene from the cutting of Sophie's arm to the slicing of O-ren's head was all amazing.

The Fight scene with King Kong vs. The 3 T-Rex's was excellent.

And I agree pretty much with just about all the other scenes that have been previously said.

Wouldn't call it "the best" but I would call the shootout at Top Dollar's club in The Crow "pretty damn good".

I was in middle school when that came out in theatres. IMO, that scene still kicks ass to this day. Like you said, not the best but it's up there for me.

i think terminator salvation has some good action scenes,

The part where Daredevil rampages through the bar.

One of my favourite comic book movie action sequences, I just like fights that are brutal and direct like that.

In fact, Wolverine stabbing through soldiers in X2 and Daredevil bar brawl are tied as the best comic book movie action sequences, IMO.
