The fact that Johnny Depp hasn't won an Oscar is an absolute crime.

WTF??? I cant make the poll of all his movies!

Besides, there is "Another", and you choose this.
Well, why'd you add Chocolat then...he's barely in the thing.

Yes, well I don't think Paul Newman has ever either. Which is another crime.

Which is just more proof the Oscars are ****.

Edward Scissorhands, That's was my first Depp/Burton I saw on TV and I thought he was great in it.

im not into chick flicks like EWDSCR but it was ok....

his best role and movie however is PIRATES!

depp is an awesome actor, just not 'oscar' awesome. the roles he play's straight (9th gate, secret window, etc.) are just kind of 'meh' and all his other roles are just gimmicky performances. i like them, don't get me wrong, but they can't be chalked up to award worthy acting, in my opinion. they're just... gimmicks. i can't think of a better way to say it.

i will say that finding neverland is an exception, though. he was awesome in that film.

POTC, Edward Scissorhands, Charlie & The Chocolate Factory & Sleepy Hollow.

You're a crackhead. He was amazing in Donnie Brasco and Deadman. The Man is a brilliant actor. Look at all his movies, he's the most versatile actor of his generation to say. Jonnhy Depp completely creates his characters, and almost lives inside the roles. . The thing is, he's very subtle in alot of his roles. Which almost seems strange in contrast to scenery eating guys like Al Pachino or Sean Penn. That's what the Oscars loves most of the time. They're also very picky about what they choose. Depps films are usually too offbeat or low key for them to consider. But, I mean the mans awesome. For Fear and Loathing he actually moved in to Hunter's basement and studied him for i think about a month. Or Benny and Joon. All the stunts he did in the movie were real. He actually studied Charlie Chaplin for months just for the role. And let's not forget Donnie Brasco...followed the real life Brasco everywhere. Completely nailed the guys voice, mannerisms, everything. If you watch the special features with the real guy he sounds identical to Depp in the movie. He's very much a method actor.

Seriously, pay more attention to when you're watching movies. Depp in a couple of cases completely makes some movies worth while to see when they'd be otherwise ho-hum without him.

Potc and Once upon a time in mexico for example.

i'm a crackhead? you're a dick! maybe you didn't read my whole post? or a few of the posts before that? i dig depp very much. he may even be my favorite actor, he's at least top 3, but he's not award winning material, in my opinion. i've never seen donnie brasco, or deadman, never even heard of deadman, actually. i just think when he's being 'subtle' as you call it, he's boring, other than that, he eats scenerey worse than penn, or pacino, or whoever else you listed above. are you kidding me? i know most of the movies he 'acts out' in are only good because of him, but that isn't necessarily a good thing, in my opinion. he's awesome to watch, no doubt about it, but he's a gimmick actor. it's like he thinks, how can i be different and call attention to myself in this role? would anyone still be talking about pirates, or fear and loathing, or ed wood if it weren't for depp's off beat performances?

like i said, i dig him, but he's just a weirdo, nothing more. an attention ****e.
