What issues/collected editions of the emerald archer do you consider to be the best of Green Arrow? Any recommendations?

Quiver, so truly amazing! I also thought of Identity Crisis for some reason just because he is a key player in it.

Longbow Hunters, Quiver like Hush said, Sounds of Violence, Archers Quest, and Straight Shooter. All of which are collected in relatively easy to find trades. And if you don't mind reading comics from the 70's, theres Green Lantern/Green Arrow.

Archers Quest is by far my favourite.

Actually, Archers Quest is so good it is a shame Green Arrow has just been downhill since then.

Don't worry he is going to get a big boost from being on Smallville like A.C.

That's all?

Yup. Pretty much everything that was said is all the really good stuff on GA. Look at it this way, Finding Mike Grell's run might be quite a task. And if you want, you can get the rest of Winnick's run, which while not great, isn't all that bad. The current arc is pretty sweet. I also liked the one before the OYL jump. Dr. Light has become one sick ass villain.

Read in this order:

Quiver
Sounds of Violence
The Archers Quest

Those collect the first 21 issues of his current series and unquestionably the best stories ever told with the character. Those are the Best Of.

If you want to know more about the character and his history after those, check out the Green Lantern/Green Arrow books (which were the stories told in the 1970s when GA first became a relevent character and more than just Batman-with-a-bow) Good read, but the stories are 35 years old so they're from a different era of comic storytelling and I'm not sure if you have a taste for classic comics. After that, it'd be Mike Grell's The Longbow Hunters, which is the start of GA's first ongoing series in the 80s. Quality, and certainly better than alot of stuff from the same era, but it's not one of the tales that I personally feel holds up today (very few 80s books do, though. Only things by Miller and Moore, really)

And after that, Green Arrow isn't the main character of these books, but he plays an important role and they're all excellent stories:

Identity Crisis
Green Lantern: Rebirth
DC: The New Frontier

That's your essential GA

I'm reading a whole lot of Grell G.A. right now. Its really very good. You should be able to find this stuff real cheap on ebay.

Track down the 4 issue mini from '83 by Mike W. Barr. It's not in tpb, but you can probably find the issues really cheap if you keep your eyes open. It's a great character piece.

i pretty much like all of what i've read in regards to the new volume of GA (a few low points aside)....but the ones i posted above are my favorites. sounds of violence is also really good, forgot to mention that one.
