Ok,this is one of those films that you either really love or really hate. There's no in between.
I am one of those people who absolutley LOVED this movie. For me,this ranks as one of the best all time horror films. I can honestly say that I'm a sick, demented person and I love horror. I've seen alot of messed up stuff(both in movies and in real life),but no movie has ever creeped me out as much as Blair Witch did. I remember after seeing this movie I couldn't sleep for a week or so. In an age where horror movies have bad acting, terrible dialogue and crappy CGI scares,Blair Witch stands as a new and refreshing way of making films. Many people have complaints about the movie not showing anything,or the moving camera or whatever. The fact that you never see anything is what makes this film work. Nothing is more terrifying than your own imagination, and this film knows that. Even after all these years I still ask myself these questions.... "What happened to these students?"..."Did they die,and if so,how horribly?"..."If it was the witch, then what does she/it look like?"..."What happened to their remains?"
Plus, since the movie was mainly improvised by the actors, all of their reactions are real and more believeable.Heather,Josh and Mike really were scared, tired and hungry. It was very easy for people sitting in their movies seats to question why Heather did this,or why Josh acted this way,but if you were in their situation, you would've lost it as well. I've lived around the woods most of my life and believe me,it's a creepy place, especially at night.Probably the one scene that freaks me out still to this day is when Heather and Mike come out of their tent late at night to hear Josh screaming for help. His toungue and a few teeth have been removed so it's hard to understand him,but his screaming echos throughout the forrest. Mike is yelling for Josh, while Heather begins to cry and she says,"Oh My God!" Just imagine being in that position. Jeez, that moment still gives me goosebumps.

This is intelligent horror. You have to have an imagination to appreciate and understand it. I think many people dislike it because they fell for the "hoax" that this was a real movie. Well, don't blame that on the film itself. Hell,I knew it was just a movie long before it came out. How come nobody else figured that out?

..the first one was very good and i concurr with you...it was intelligent horror/drama...

the second one was a waste of film...

I agree about Book of Shadows. It bored me to death and for me,it didn't really add anything to the Blair witch legend. More than anything I would love a prequel about the witch herself,Elly Kedward. That's what Blair witch 3 will be about...if it ever gets made.

I love the first one and to this day, it scares the hell out of me.
I've always loved this movie.

I think I might be the only person on earth that actually enjoyed the second for attempting something new with the legend.

I liked the second but not as a sequel. I thought it was a good take on it but I think it could have been better. The married couple couldn't act for crap and it distracted from the story of the movie imo.

The first is ok though it wasn't that scary. Horror movies now need to be better.

this movie was amazing on a couple different levels. the major one being that they created so much buzz before and during filming that they actually had the vast majority of the audience (if not everyone) believing that this was real...and the footage they were watching was actual footage shot by these kids who where murdered/disappeared. Nothing like that had been done since the first radio broadcast of war of the worlds...truly brilliant.

After it was revealed as a movie and not real footage, it didn't get a good reaction.

The movie scared me as a kid, partly because I bought into the hype that it was a real story and partly because I camped a lot back then. Now though, its still a fun movie to watch every now and then.

Have those kids gone on to do anything else since then?

Well sorry to burst your bubble, but I neither love nor hate it. It's okay.

Oh,that's ok. I just have never seen anybody with that view. Everyone that's I've ever talked to about Blair witch either just loved it,or hated it.

I have to say that another reason I love this movie is Heather Donahue. My God,that girl is a freakin' fox!!!!

She made it worth watching.

I thought the sequal "The Bare Wench Project" starring Julie Strain was better.

I didn't find this movie the least bit scary, & yes Heather Donahue is a fox.

The biggest mistake this movie ever made, was the filmmakes admitted to it being fake. I was completely sold on the movie until I found out it was just a bunch of actors running around in the woods. Then it just sucked! I also hate this movie for starting the Shakey Cam craze!

i always found it interesting that so many people touted the movie as being so good and "the scariest thing since the exorcist" and the majority of movie goers generally enjoying the film. Then, once it comes out that it's just a movie and not real, all of a sudden people, and alot of the same people who liked it, now for some reason don't.

I liked the first one alright.

Never bothered watching the sequel. :o

I love the first one, I remember seeing it in the theater with my two cousins when I was 9.
