Obvious spoilers here. Read at your own risk.

Was anyone else moved when Superman pulled the boat from the water and then trusted Richard to hold onto Lois and Jason? I just thought this was a great gesture from Supes to Richard, in that he recognized Richard's own strength and capitalized on it during the rescue. I mean, Superman could have just ripped the door off and carried them all to safety. But he didn't. He *and* Richard were both responsible for the rescue and they were both doing their part. It's one of those otherwise little things that makes Superman who he is.

Just really struck the right nerve with me. I really liked that scene.

I agree...I really liked that Supes just asked "Do you have them?" and trusted Richard enough to hold on tight as he let the boat go...the scene was cool as hell too!

This was one of my favorite scenes in the film. I liked how Superman asked Richard twice if he had them and then dropped the yacht into the water. Great, great scene.

I didn't think he had much choice in how best to rescue them; he's got a hand occupied with keeping the boat in the air already. Next he needed to assure that richard's grasp on lois and the kid was firm enough before dropping the boat. The focus was their safety rather than giving richard a share in heroism. If richard said no, he'd do what... I guess just keep the boat in the air and let them ride it to the plane. He didn't really need to lift it so high in the air actually, but it looks cool when the boat's falling and richard's hanging on to supes so I see why it's done that way.

He could have just ripped the door off and pulled all three of them out, Richard with one hand and Lois and the kid with the other. Or he could've had Jason get on his back the way Richard did and then just use one hand each for Richard and Lois.

Him not doing that had the effect of his placing trust in a human. Instead of playing the god, he recognized Richard's strength and used it for the rescue, which had to have made Richard feel important to the process.

Point is, he's Superman. He probably could have come up with five other ways to rescue them that didn't involve help from a 'puny human'. But he didn't. And in return, it made a human feel significant even in the presence of someone so much more powerful.

He had to lift the boat first to let the water drain out of the kitchen refrigerator thing lois, superboy, and Richard were trapped in so they wouldn't drown first. With only one hand free, all he could do next was either keep the boat in the air or hold on to one of them and drop it. I didn't see five other ways around that honestly. His top priority was lois and the child's safety, which is waaaaaay above giving richard a slice of the glory.

So what you're saying is that if all three of them had been unconscious, there's no way Superman could have rescued them from a sinking ship?

Yeah, okay .

Eye rolling is so rude. oh they'd probably be dead by the time he arrived, yes. But superman could pull the dead bodies out with his mouth and hands I guess as long as he's not holding a boat at the same time.

In fact, he'd just lift the boat to land like he did in sTM.

Not really, rescuing people is what he does. I wasn't "moved"

anyone else thought maybe he was affected by krpytonite but didnt realize it? it seemed like he used too much effort to pull the boat out of the water

That scene was perfect. All the actions scenes with superman were well done. Only wish there were more of them.

Superman comming out of the water was just weird and badly filmed to me....

One of my favorite scenes.

Especially the part with Supes rising up from the water w/ the theme playing...AWESOME!

the only issue i had with this scene is supes' posture/body position when he rips open the door and grabs richard & co...it almost looks like he's kneeling down, and this didn't make much sense to me in that i couldn't get how he could be kneeling down yet lifting the boat at the same time. seems like physics would force him to be straining upwards in a straight line, as he is when he first lifts the boat.

nevermind. i'm thinking too much about it.
