Yes TDK still has the most admissions for an OW even over the final Potter film.

It is going to make a lot of money.

200 million opening weekend.

Nolan be rollin' in money.

Just to let you guys know, The Avengers just made $80.5 million on a Friday; on track to make $175+ million on an opening weekend.

Crazy money for Avengers. A good film + hype + 3D will do that.

You think TDKR can beat that without 3d releases?

As far as opening weekend goes, I doubt it without 3D. As for total (domestically) it simply depends on how good the movie is. But WB picked a hell of a film to debut their trailer with.

TDKR could sell more tickets than TA and make less money. the 3D ratio for TA is high so far.

Avengers is on track for $185+ million, possibly $200m depending on how quickly word of mouth begins to take hold for it. The studio reported that 60% of the revenue came from 3D shows, which represents around a 16% boost over what it would have made in just 2D. No way TDKR can compete with that.

WB is probably mad at Nolan right now for not letting them put TDKR in 3D. But they'll still make a ton of cash on this movie even without it.

I'd imagine they would be pretty mad. IMAX is awesome but there's not too many theatres around. Not enough to make up for the 3D which is becoming more and more popular.

I would have liked to see TDKR get the record. Here's to hoping

I still think TDKR will easily make $150 million. I wouldn't expect it to beat any records though. Have to say, really happy for the incredible opening weekend for Avengers. Great movie, easily deserves it.

We may actually have 4 movies that open $15o million or higher this year. Th Hunger Games, The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, and The Hobbit.

I certainly hope there aren't people out there complaining about TDKR not being shown in 3D. Nolan made a wise choice and I think this films deserves to be seen how it's supposed to, in full IMAX 2D. I'm hoping the IMAX sales alone make up for the lack of pricing on 3D ticket sales, because let's face it, 3D blows and takes more money out of your pocket for doing so.

I have faith that, whilst this film won't make the additional amount of revenue, due to ticket pricing, I reckon a good portion of it would be made up by IMAX ticket sales and more bums in seats, so it could be a close comparison to the opening weekend of The Avengers. Being at the height of summer, it should hold true with retention as well, meaning that there will be many repeat viewings from people throughout the summer break.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy as hell it's not in 3D because I don't like it. Avengers was only showing on one 2D screen last night and it was a medium sized screen. When I saw Inception (obviously did not have a 3D release), it was on the biggest screen in the entire theater. I wish I could have seen Avengers on a similar sized screen, but the two biggest screens in the theater were both 3D showings. :(

3D is overrated. Although I did enjoy Titanic in IMAX 3d. Easily the best 3D ive ever seen

Opening day/weekend is the battle.

Total gross is the war. :cwink:

I don't get it, surely people chose to watch Avengers in 3d because they had the option to, not because it is 3d. You mean to tell me if Avengers was in 2d it still wouldn't have broken the box office? I call BS.

Or is the price for 3d films significantly higher in the US vs 2d films.

In Sweden 3D tickets are quite more expensive, sometimes even up to 30% more.

Very good numbers for The Avengers.

I do wonder if WB will double up the promo/marketing for TDKR internationally. Batman is not that big in some markets overseas, right?

Uh, the price is 30% higher at a minimum. Sometimes upwards of 50% higher. The theater I saw Avengers at last night had ONE screen showing it in 2D and 4 screens showing it in 3D. They're not exactly giving people much of a choice. If there are limited 2D showings and they're all sold out, guess what people will do? They'll pony up the extra cash to watch it in 3D because they want to see the movie no matter what. For Avengers, its opening day gross was inflated by around $11 million due to the fact that 60% of its revenue came from 3D showings. It is on pace for around $200m for the weekend, which would put it in the same ballpark of admissions as SM3 and TDK (22 million admissions), neither of which had 3D or 2012 ticket prices (inflation). It is a great achievement to even get in the same sentence with those two as far as admissions on opening weekend. Potter 8 wasn't even close last summer. It was around 3.5 million admissions short.

I heard Japan and Russia are not big on Batman but who knows if TDK changed the character's image overseas. For example, China definitely is on TDKR's boat now. TDK was the most illegally downloaded movie of all time over there.
