I'm VERY glad tdkr is not in 3d. I'm a big imax fan but i was only able to see the avengers in imax 3d. Imax on its own is good enough but with the 3d it becomes too distracting and overkill.

I really wanted to just take my glasses off and enjoy the imax, of course not possible in imax 3d.

Honestly the whole box office argument is moot anyways neither of these films will outgross avatar. They'll both make a killing but one of them will also get the critical accolades and potential film awards that come with it.

Avengers was fun but still disposable no where near the feelings i had when i left the theatre after seeing tdk for the 1st time.

Since when is that the measure of success? Avatar was a fluke.

I dont care about TDKR making more money then TDK excually.
It's about will it be better then BB and TDK? i found TDK not to be better then BB it wasnt really looking like it really related to anything that happened in BB,this TDKR movie looks more like it is a real sequel to BB.I think if you watch BB and then TDKR without watching TDK it will look more logical.

Very logical indeed.

And in the space of a weekend, TDKR just became the underdog in the battle for the summer. Astonishing numbers for TA. Even the biggest Marvel nuts didn't see that coming.

(Still, TA doesn't beat TDK's adjusted opening weekend with the 3D boost it had.)

Warner's arrogance in assuming Rises would be the biggest by name value alone has come to eat a big chunk of their ass.

Not sure what you mean by this? TDKR hasn't even come out yet. More then 2 months to go.

I don't think they could have done anything, even if they did shove this film down people's throats, there is just way to many factors in play at the start. (not kiddy friendly, lack of humour, non 3d) They aren't eating anything.

It's not all arrogance. TDK was huge in 2008.

You assume that WB assumed TDKR will be a mammoth solely because of it's name. Not true. TDKR has the possibility of being gargantuan because of the successes of the previous film and praise it's currently receiving.

Rises isn't doing 200 million in a weekend just for the simple fact it's not in 3D.

In the long game, it might do more than Avengers because it's in the middle of the summer and kids are out compared to now but opening weekend will stay in Marvel's hands for a while.

Exactly total gross is still pretty fair game, considering the nature of Nolan's films, many will probably want to rewatch the film (if it's any good that is) but yeah no one is touching that opening for a long time.

That's a bit premature, I think. Even if it doesn't beat TA, TDKR is going to be massive.

I doubt that. With inflation and the ever growing 3D market in America, if TDKR doesn't, then another hot shot film will within five years.

TDKR is going to beat by TA by a good 15-20m opening weekend, without 3-D. OMG WOWZERS

The Hobbits are coming and in 3D no less!!!! :wow:

I don't think that is even physically possible. Avengers didn't just have 3D, it was the culmination of what basically is a set of prequels. It's more universally appealing with the humour and the action.

It'll still beat Potter's record i'd imagine, which is still nothing to scoff at. It's a great time to be a comic book fan.

People are saying we're going to "lose" now. We'll show them right?

Alot of people are doubting The Hobbit after the 48 fps fiasco but I certainly believe The Hobbit will be a monster of it's own.

I think The Avenger's record-breaking numbers is a good sign for Rises. Even when you account for the 3D inflation, it still shows that people are showing up in high numbers for these movies.

Topping that opening weekend is a tall order, but we'll see. I'm curious to see if Avengers will cross $1 billion when it's all said and done.
