The Cape

i thought it was good, people who i know watched it also thought it was good. So im a little lost when it comes to the negativity surrounding the show. The shows seems like a real throwback kinda show and not to the 90s like some have suggested. When i think of the Cape I do not think Batman, i think its more along the lines of the Phantom, The Spirit something like that. Nbc tried to market it as if hes a superhero but hes not.

Exactly it's like the spirit mixed with moon knight sort of. I actually could see this work better as the spirit.

The thing with Summer is, you either fall in love with her, or she doesn't do anything for you.

She is that type of girl that might seem meh, but if shes in your type, you will automatically love her and still have no idea why.

I'm a fan of Summer because she's a really good actor who's been in some stuff I really like.

'Actress' The Question. Summer Glau is an 'actress'. lol jk just bustin your chops.

It strikes me as a remnant of English's Romance influences. I don't really think it's sexist if there aren't any negative connotations attached to it. It's like hating the word "lady" for not being applicable to both sexes.

I'm a fan of Summer because she's hot and I want her to have my babies.

So general consensus is that this is gonna get canned, right? It's too bad, because Summer Glau can't seem to win. Sci-fi shows don't seem to last on these networks, regardless of their quality, and she always picks that genre it seems. She must be fond of it. I hope she sticks with the genre, but can get a good show to work on or get a film career going.

I don't know, it just seems stupid to have two words for males and females of the profession when they both do the exact same thing.

Although it is easier than saying

"And the Oscar for Best Supporting Female Actor goes to..."

Why not just combine the Actress and Actor awards and enter both the men and women into the same pool of contestants. They should be judged on their abilities and only that. Their gender has nothing to do with it. But I doubt that will happen.

What they should do is add a third category where the best actor and best actress duke it out on stage. :awesome:

I watched the first 2 episodes and I like it. My only problem was the rushed origin story in episode 1, but there are a lot of good ideas and it has the potential to be a great show.

I do feel sorry for Ms. Glau. She was one of the most striking and memorable actors on Firefly (and for television, that was an amazing cast) but she has been typecast in sci-fi and fanboy projects ever since. She keeps getting shows an they keep getting cancelled.

I hoped that like Nathan Fillion and Adam Baldwin, she could break out of the genre and find mainstream success. Terminator was an OK show. But it had its great moments, and all of those moments involved Glau who kept the show watchable even at its worst.

But The Cape is just blah. She has nothing to do. The only person who comes off with anything to do is James Fran. Even the great Keith David is wasted, but he is so entertaining and compelling that we don't care that he has little to do. This show is just such a waste of remarkable television acting talent. And I suspect this will hurt everyone involved...except for Keith David, he is untouchable.

Oh well. Maybe they can get Summer Glau a cameo on Castle and try to use that to impress ABC execs for something else. And Fran as well, because he is the one holding the Cape together right now....all the way to episode 4 or 5 when it gets cancelled, I am afraid.

Reminds me of the John Wesley Shipp Flash series from 90s

I thought the same thing.

I enjoyed the show for the most part although it was a bit hokey with the over-acting and terrible lines.

I can't see this show lasting on NBC for very long. I doubt it will make it the entire season.

I actually liked it, even though some of the cheesier moments in the beginning made me cringe a little, and made my wife say: "really?"

Out of all the recent superhero-type shows that have come out, this one is the most "comic-booky," with over-the-top-characters, and genuine, fleshed-out (and even masked!) villains from the get go. Villains that wore costumes. A lead villain that commands a world-reaching enterprise that's bent on global domination. A secret society of even more villainous (and I bet costumed!) characters.

Once I watched it in that context, it all made better sense to me, and I really started to enjoy it.

I can almost bet that if the story so far had been done in graphic format, but exactly the way it is, more people here would follow along better.

That what I came away with it feeling. If this was happening in a comic, people would be fine with it. Because this is exactly the same sort of thing that happens in comics. It's just we're seeing it being played out for real.

She hasn't had anything to do yet because the show has only just started. The reason side characters haven't had much fleshing out is because they wanted/needed to develop the main character's storyline first. Once the show gets under way, I reckon Keith and Summer's characters will get their turns in the spotlight.

I might be wrong but [blackout]I suspect Summer's character will be revealed to be connected/known to James Frain's (the main villain's) character (e.g. his daughter or some such)[/blackout].

what you've put in your spoiler thingie there is highly possible IMHO...

Is the main villain Chess or the group Tarot?

I also really liked the carnies, especially their leader. He has such flair and a commanding presence about him. The fake death scene had me laughing.

My wife thinks I am crazy for watching this show. She compared to a show that was on SciFi called Black Scorpion. I think The Cape is much better than Black Scorpion, but that's not saying much, since Black Scorpion was fantastically horrible. God only knows why I watched it, maybe it was the lead female in a skimpy outfit. lol

Well I watched this on my DVR today and it was well.. weak. I hated that the cape itself was so obviously cgi and poorly rendered. :( The over the top villians and unrealistic characters bummed me out. It is possible to tell a superhero story with some class, just think the Nolan Batman flicks. I expected better with such a great cast. It was the story that was weak, not the acting. I'll probably watch the next episode just out of morbid curiousity, but yeah, this show isn't going to last long I figure.

I see a lot of people complaining about the CGI cape, which I find to be an unfair criticism. Using a real cape would be impossible and thus out of the question. Meanwhile, the quality of CGI depends more on technical limitations, such as budgeting and time, rather than the producer's quality control. While not the best, it's definitely serviceable and far away from a failure. And if shows limited themselves in their scope based on what CGI they can produce realistically (or of movie quality), this would prevent them from exploring many, many ideas and concepts; which means we might wind up missing out on good stories.

In essence, less than perfect quality CGI in a show that isn't driven heavily by CGI sequences shouldn't play heavily in the show's overall judgment. Getting that would simply be icing.
