Venom The Carnage thread

Other than Mysterio, Chameleon Scorpion, Kraven and Black Cat. Carnage is the only Spider-Man iconic villain not to appear in a live action film, so I'm interested to see what will he look like.

You forgot Mr. Negative, Beetle/Mach, Jackal, Tombstone, Speed Demon, Hammerhead, Hobgoblin, Spot, Silvermane and Cardiac. And if you're counting Alistair Smythe and Shocker, then technically Scorpion and Black Cat both appeared as well even though they lacked their costumes.

Also is Scott Haze or Woody Harrleson supposed to be Carnage? The trailer didn't reveal either of them in the role, nor did it show Brock as Venom.

Really??

I'd be just fine with never seeing Carnage in a Spidey film, yeah. He's just a ****ty B-grade Venom anyway, and is way out of the tone a Spiderman movie should have.

Carnage isn't ******. I'm inclined to see him as Spidey's deadliest Venom, even more so than Green Goblin. At least GG could be reasoned with to some extent. Carnage is completely unhinged. How is he out of tone? Any reason why Spider-Man can't be dark at times? He hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows.

Because of MCU. They have a light tone , even more with Homecoming.

If Sony use Spider-Man out of MCU, Spiderman & Carnage can be in a Venom movie.

Because he's basically as R-rated a Marvel character as they get? There's not really any point in doing Carnage unless you're going to get into Logan levels of violence, and neither Sony nor Marvel Studios will want to do that. And they shouldn't.

We have nothing to indicate Woody Harrelson and/or Carnage is in this, apart from some rumors way back when that we've heard nothing further it.

At this point I assume Harrelson's not in this and Carnage probably isn't either unless maybe as a stinger or something.

If Harrelson is in fact in this, I'm starting to be more inclined to believe he IS Kassidy/Carnage, but only in a minor/introductory role, setting him up for the sequel. Bc if Harrelson was in this in a large or leading part, I don't see any way they wouldn't use him in the trailers and advertising as he would be an additional big draw

I for sure think Harrelson is going to pop up at the end to tease Carnage.

Maybe we get Carnage in th credits and in the sequel.

I bet all we get is a name check of Cassidy in the post credits scene. They’re going to want a known name for that role and I doubt they’d reveal it in a post credits scene.

It has been done before in a post credits scene, though.

Samuel L Jackson in Iron Man
Benicio Del Toro in Thor :The Dark World

We will see. I don’t think Carnage is really that interesting a villain. All he is a killing machine so I don’t know what kind of complexity he would bring.

I'm sure they could come up with something good for Cletus/Carnage. Especially with Harrelson in the role.

Like you said, he's basically just a killing machine without much else. So as long as they keep him hyper-violent, they pretty much have a blank canvas to create or give him a new/different/more interesting backstory if they want, without really ruining his character imo

I think that if Woody Harrelson is confirmed to be in this movie, it's most likely that he will play a major role in the future of the Venom franchise. You don't hire such actors to play the janitor, a simple guard or whatever. My guess (and hope) is that he will play Carnage, he has the "madness" ! However, what I am worried about is how exactly will Carnage work if this franchise won't be R rated? There is absolutely no point in making a movie with this character in it as Pg-13.

Carnage really should have been the main villain for this movie. If Venom ends up tanking both critically and financially, the chances to see the red guy on the big screen are pulverized, at least for a long while. Sony really dropped the ball on this.

Sony evidently didn't commit to what kind of movie they wanted to make shooting for a soft R to backslide into pg-13 territory in hopes of getting a piggyback ride from Marvel. Carnage as a villain could easily be a hard R or of course pg-13 if they knew from the start of production that in fact they were committed unwaveringly to a pg-13 film.

As a villain he doesn't allow as much backslide possibility I suppose.

I supported this movie when pretty much no one else would on these boards but I'm just fed up with the news I'm hearing about it lately and just have lost interest in paying to see it.

Will be a real shame on that front. I always wanted to see him and Venom (and Spidey) on screen together.

I still don't think Carnage would have been a good first time villain. There wouldn't be enough screen time to do him a good service in the first film imo. The problem now is that Riot is pretty much a stand in for him physically which does take away from doing him in a sequel.

I also think people underestimate Carnage's potential as a character. I think there's a lot of potential in telling the story of a hunt for a serial killer/supervillain.

Agreed. You still need to introduce this version of Brock/Venom. That should obviously dominate the majority of screen time. I think it would be way too much to do the Venom origin and essentially the Cassidy/Carnage 'origin' in the same movie. Saving him for part II with a tease at the end of 1 is perfect imo.

But yeah, unfortunately Riot seems to be extremely similar, at least visually and ability-wise. The only ways they may be able to really differentiate the 2 now is to focus heavily on the Cassidy/Harrelson side of things, as a person, and then just have his motives/intentions as Carnage be different. In this first film Riot may only be interested in killing Brock or some other narrow focus, whereas Carnage can just be a psychopathic killing machine

Sounds like the Riot guy's going to be some ruthless sociopath type anyway - not "crazy crazy", but crazy all the same. Seems pretty similar to Carnage anyway, tomayto tomahto. They both suck.
