Venom Venom's Box Office Thread

You don’t know how many people think Venom is in the MCU simply because Stan Lee showed up.

What’s so refreshing about this movie?
30-40 whole minutes of character development without said hero putting on a super suit & whatnot, just a lot of his banter bouncing off of other characters
20 more minutes of him adjusting to powers in the most bizarre yet entertaining ways possible
1 hour mark, full Venom reveal
...a buddy...romantic comedy...a bromantic comedy to be more precise
while we're so familiar with Venom feeding off of negative emotion, this Venom is so far & away from that
yet that's the coolest thing ever
Deadpool & Venom crossover, when?

these Jumanji writers are no slackers

So every movie before didn’t have that and involved a super suit? Nah son . We have a slew of hero movies where a hero adjust to his powers in a funny way.

It’s just the aspect of seeing venom of screen and kicking ass that grabs you. Nothing more than that. It was also very comedic in tone something which people always criticize the mcu for being. So it wasn’t anything new.

Also I’ll admit I was wrong in saying that Spider-Man needs venom and vice versa. Apparently venom holds up well on his own and has for yrs. it was my own fanboy bias of wanting to see a proper adaptation of the character. Whatever tho

I'm glad Venom is successful. My hope is that Sony's spiderverse does great so that Spidey goes back to making Sony movies and we can get another release day slot opened up in the MCU. Fantastic 4 or X-men are gonna need that free release date.

Plus I'm happy when any comic book movie makes more than Justice League.

X-men and ff would of had a release regardless. Jeez Sony makes a decent venom movie and it’s like the past 11 yrs didn’t happen.

What’s so refreshing about this movie? It delivers nothing new except for venom

I honestly think that just because someone randomly says something you hate is great (in the discussion thread for said thing) doesn’t mean you are entitled to demand an answer for the question “Why?” from them (and then later on judge that the answer they give is inadequate). That’s a bad habit, I think. You’ll see people love what you hate everyday, and sometimes they literally can’t pinpoint why they love it and can’t answer you why. Just like sometimes you can say you love a person because they are smart and compassionate and wealthy, but sometimes you can’t pinpoint exactly what you love about them, same for movie.

I applaud you for having the character to post this. There are numerous Spider-man fans who still won't admit this now, even with proof positive.

Now why can't more people post like that when they were initially spewing, for lack of a better word, venom for just about everything in this film down to the hairs on Tom Hardy's hair and then seeing the box numbers roll in?

I wasn't talking every movie before. The recent comic book movies seemed to stop doing the normal everyday shiz for that long into a movie WITHOUT needing to infuse the superhero-ing as soon as possible. It's like when RLM saw those 3 Transformers movies at the same time. The first one literally spent more time on characters & story before the vfx diarrhea every other scene.
For Venom of all characters? Someone who's supposed to be a physical & mental threat and puts a far greater toll than just a health risk. You have all these adaptations of Venom making the user venomous, vitriolic, a zombie...gotta get rid of it.
They changed Venom to be Eddie's best mate, his wing man, fix even those health risks the doctor said Venom was creating, etc...it's so frickin' weird.
That's why he doesn't need Spider-Man. We'd be rooting for this dynamic duo to bite his head off.

China delivered $200 + million and counting. . . .damn. . . . Never underestimate their love of monster movies I guess.

Nah lil buddy.

Lol. Really?

Like you keep saying the fans are in the minority. So I’m sure that people don’t know it’s a separate universe or anything. I’m sure they think that Spider-Man will show up and so will venom. Some people did but I’m freaking sure a lot of people think this is connected to Tom Holland spidey. Of course YOU wouldn’t think so cause ur such a hardcore Sony fan but the GA aren’t to keen on the whole separate universe, Sony thing. They see a Spider-Man villain they’ll most likely think spidey will show up sometime. Doesn’t mean that’s why the movie made money but I’m sure the GA thinks holland will show up

And like you just said, fans are in the minority, so they have absolutely no idea that Sony has, or is, attempting it's own separate universe. And why in the lord's name would anyone expect Holland's Spidey to show up? He wasn't in the origin, the most 'important' part of his connection/involvement to Venom, and he wasn't even remotely teased, alluded to, or mentioned. Zero reason to expect that, at the very least for it's sequel. Which has obviously been promoted as Venom Vs. Carnage.

Even despite Sony's plans for their SUMC, to the GA this movie was nothing other than it's own, standalone, single character film. End of story. Talks of 'universes' or 'crossovers' can take place within studios or online all they want, but currently that's completely irrelevant -- or nonexistent -- in the public's eye for this film

The strong legs for this film pretty much tells the tale here. Numbers don't lie. Word got out almost immediately for the uninitiated that this isn't part of the MCU, but it still delivered a super solid 2.65 multiplier in NA and exploded overseas. This films success speaks for itself. People don't need to understand it, just accept it.

This

Cause it’s not a big deal

Yea like I said I wouldn’t be surprised if people expect venom to be in infinity war
