The Catwoman/Selina Kyle Casting Thread - Part 1

Great thread to choose if you "never liked" the titular character.

I wonder if Selina's ties to the mob will be explored in this film universe. While her relationship to Carmine Falcone was retconned, it was recently revealed that her biological father—a man named Rex Calabrese—was similarly affiliated with the Gotham City underworld. He apparently ran things for some time until being superseded by Falcone.

While I wouldn't be bothered if this particular aspect of Catwoman's origins was left unadapted, as it is relatively recent and by no means a necessary component to her characterization, it could certainly make for an interesting change or negative arc.

I really want a WOC for Selina, but d@mn I would also love Lena Headey as Selina. She'd be so perfect for the role.

And casting wise, she's only one year younger than Affleck, so it would make sense if they were going with someone close to Batman's age.

Headey was just casually responding to a fan on Twitter, so I wouldn't get my hopes up.

It's not going to happen unfortunately. Sad. They're putting Gotham City Sirens as a priority. So it will be a younger Selina. The overall universe and how each character relates to THIS Batman, that's what should be the priority. Not one spin off movie that will probably bomb anyway.

This would entirely redeem the DCEU. Lena Headey is a ****ing legend.

Eh, I don't really get this infatuation with Headey. I mean, she is a decent actress, but I never saw her do anything particularly impressive. Actually, I can't recall any good film of hers at the moment... she's been in a lot of crappy movies.

Do you like her as Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones?

What does her being in crappy movies have anything to do with her capabilities an an actress?

She's absolutely impressive in Game of Thrones. Especially in the latest episodes where it's all about nuance and subtlety. Someone who is raging inside but won't let it out. THAT is acting. It's not always about flash and loud performances. She would be perfect as an aging Selina who is quite...milfy lol.

I don't like the show, so I only watched first season. But I did like her there, she was good at playing an unlikable, scheming bi**h, even if she did strike me as somewhat detached here and there.

Nothing, I said her acting was always decent in things I saw her in, even in those crappy films. I'm just trying to figure out why so many people are responding to her potential casting as if she's much better actress than she seems to be. I got my answer though... "Game of Thrones". I take it she pulled some impressive stuff in later seasons.

Yeah her character goes through some s**t to say the least, as the seasons progress.

I suspect it's mostly because Headey's demonstrated sufficient prowess in the field (not just on GoT, mind you) coupled w/ the fact that she bears a notable resemblance to modern depictions of the character. She also meets the requirements if you're hoping for an attractive, physically fit actress over the age of 34. In this case, I don't think you really need more than that.

This is an old pic, but I don't care.

She was better at being Sarah Connor than Linda Hamilton.

There, I said it.

sarah connor chronicles was the best terminator we got since terminator 2.if she was cast as catwoman i would have no problem with it.

I actually wouldn't be too opposed to that. She's always reminded me of Pfeiffer, so that's a plus.

I usually don't take these tweets seriously, but I do have a feeling that Haley Bennett thing is going to prove true... it kinda fits Ayer's MO, when compared to his casting of Robbie as Harley Quinn - up-and-coming, (apparently) talented actress, who recently delivered a praised performance. I hope I'm wrong, but I think it's time to start adjusting to this possibility.

With Matt Reeves on, how about Keri Russell?

I came here to say the same thing, he has a history with working with her in the past (Felicity and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes)

F**k, I just remembered again Ayer is in charge of casting her. If Reeves is only just signing on, he doesn't have a say in who Selina is.

Keri Russell's a little too wholesome looking for Catwoman.

Yup. Shared universe and all its complications.

Never thought of it that way, but I kinda agree. Unrelated to this, I never liked the idea of Russell in the role.

Definitely reminds me of Pfeiffer.
