The Champions:could it be?

How about they just dump everybody that was on the old team and put some new people on there with the name. Herc's probally gonna be in New Avengers anyway.

Yes. When Thor returns he needs to join. Along with Hercules. And Silver Surfer... And don't forget Ghost Rider.

There you have it folks. Most overpowered team EVER. :wow: :woot:

Ok well a team with Thor, Hulk, Strange, Sentry, Hercules, Silver Surfer pretty much covers it all. Maybe just add a telepath to the mix and they would probably win every match by forfeit

Villain sees team against him....villain thinks about it.....villain runs away ;)

Well, that cover for Civil War #6 (non crappy version) has a pretty damn good roster. In fact, if they just added Spidey, it would be a fantastic new Avengers. That said, once CW is over, the NA probably wont be comprised of those characters, so how about putting Sue on the Champions? Hercules, Iceman, Ghost Rider, Invisible Woman, maybe Firestar and She-Hulk? That seems like a pretty good roster to me. They're worthy of the name and aren't stepping on The Defender's toes.

I could see it....Dan Slott does love Herc....well I assume, since Herc appeared in Both She Hulk and Thing....

Say, Thing......Two members are leaving the FF....Maybe Thing can be on these Champions...That would also fit in with the Slott theory.

I kinda like that idea.:yay:

Damn Skippy.

I gave in to the Hype and Bought the Champions Classics TPB today.

I personally would want the lineup to still be "simular" to the old one, otherwise why bother calling them THE CHAMPIONS and instead give them a new name? I hate it when franchises relaunch and the only thing that is the same is the name. Just ask people who read SHAZAM right now. Teams are a dime a dozen and you can always think of a new name. Relaunching a team in name only is a waste. Just give 'em a new name. Even a "non team" like the Defenders had a few "core" members (Dr. Strange, Namor, Hulk, Nighthawk, Valkyre).

As stated previously, in some ways it is fortunate that even if you took the remaining members that live, 1-2 slots on the team need to be filled. Plus, as Black Widow is pro SHRA and Iceman, Angel, and Hercules are likely "anti", that sort of nixes her on the team. Plus, she's due for MIGHTY AVENGERS anyway. So that leaves your old "core members" at Iceman, Angel, Hercules, and Ghost Rider. Teams typically have 7 members and considering they're all males, you'd probably want those next three slots to go to female characters.

Tigra is interesting but she's also pro SHRA (and as she's a cop, it makes sense for her to be).

Firestar just retired in FRONTLINE and I suppose an old 80's kid would enjoy seeing Iceman & Firestar on the same team, but I'd rather see her show up in the next incarnation of NEW WARRIORS, being a founder and all.

Invisible Woman is possible, if this "break up the Four for a while" kick lasts. Although that may make things awkward as Marvel seems to hate any romantic pairing that happened before Joe Q's watch but lack the balls to outright divorce anyone. Which, considering that out divorce rate is over 50%, is much more "realistic" than having a supervillian blow her up or whatever hackneyed idea they usually come up with (yes, the "MJ died in an explosion/whoops, not really" thing was only maybe 5 years ago). If you're going to be "edgy" enough to whine about a couple, Joe Q, then have some balls and do it proper, and act like you mean it. Otherwise, don't bother, really.

She-Hulk is also possible; she's one of those characters like Beast who've been on 3-4 teams.

As for tone, I wouldn't mind something a little "light" but I wouldn't want it to be an irrelivent MAD spoof-athon that means nothing like NEXTWAVE. I'd like to actually take the cast seriously and have them develop. Punchlines aren't development.

Agreed. Keep Hercules, Angel, Iceman, and Ghost Rider...bring (or re-vamp) Darkstar back....

Other possible members:

Cloak & Dagger, MoonKnight, or DarkHawk.

Darkstar's death (drawn by Igor Kordy, and slain by Fantomex after she was brainwashed, I believe during Morrison's run on X-Men but I could be mistaken) was a bit random and pointless but I'm not sure a revival would be the best option. If they wanted a "powerful Russkie female" there, they could finally have Starlight shake off her passive-aggressive devotion to loser villian Presence and try to make her heroic again. She could take Black Widow's place as an "ex Commie trying to go good", and she was a stable heroine before that Presence stuff (from the Gerber days on DEFENDERS in the 70's). The radiation powers and whatnot could make her "damaged goods" for PR...but couldn't you say the same for Ghost Rider? Or even Hercules (a demigod with a history of alcoholism is almost a PR nightmare in waiting; Stark at least quit, Herc revels in his)?

Darkhawk's part of Excelsior/The Loners and I'm content with him there.

Moon Knight's a possibility but usually on a team of 7 you want a good 2-3 slots to be females and with Angel, Iceman, Ghost Rider & Hercules available on the "old team", those slots are rather filled.

I would have recommended Julia Carpenter, but she'll be on Omega Flight, so that's out.

Anyway, with Johnny Blaze back from Hell, I think the Champions could be a good way for him to "readjust" to life again. He's going through some rough patches and an oddpall collection of allies and friends to at least talk to who aren't "afraid" of him and (sort of) accept him could be beneficial.

How about Valkyrie?

How about Valkyrie?

Valkyrie would work (although im holding out for Defenders revival one day, by a writer who WON'T treat it as a comedy)...

How about Thundra or Sabra?

Darkstar did die in New Xmen so count her out for now.

I dunno man... I'm a little iffy on the idea of the Champions cause for it to work it'd have to include Herc and call me crazy but to me Herc NEEDS to be either an Avenger or a H4H member.

Him being a member of the Champions again would kinda dash my dreams for an H4H reunion. (IF, LC, BK, Herc + 3 random others= possibly greatest team roster ever)
I guess i'm just selfish

Not at all. I'd really like Thing and Herc to be on a team together.

yeah that'd be cool.

You know what just occured to me? Herc is possibly one of the friendliest guys in all of Marvel.
At various times he's been like bestest best friends with Cap, Thor, Black Knight, Thing, I think the Beast. He's just such a happy guy (ignoring those instances where he remembers his grief over his lost family i mean)

You could probably make a really good team entirely out of Herc's closest friends.

I would love it too, and as I posted in another post it makes sense.....Now, if these two are on a team you know that they Could Possibly bring in Constrictor. (Especially if it's written by Slott)

Angel will fund the team and maybe lead, Iceman wont come one, maybe part time

Valkrie would be great, maybe COntrictor and Nighthawk could both join, NH could bring on Valkrie....and maybe Hellcat, but that might be too defendery.

So here's what I'm thinking.

Angel Contacts Herc about reforming the Champions, Thing Joins and finds and brings in Sue, Herc and Thing bring in Constrictor and Nighthawk, who brings in Valkrie, they find Ghost Rider. and relocate to LA (Though I guess they don't have to) Sonbird get's really upset with the direction of the New Thunderbolts and leaves joinging forces with the Champions....

So that's:

Angel
Thing
Hercules
Invisible Woman
Nighthawk
Valkrie
Songbird
Constrictor

That's 8 with three chicks....Also all of them have a 'buddy' or 'connection' on the team...all excpet Angel and Songbird....oh theys gonna knock boots.

There, I like that...Hey Marvel, if this isn't your plan just let me write it and malke it solid...thanks.

Me too. I bet BKV could do Defenders well, that is if he won't do a DR. STRANGE ongoing. It would be nice to get a good Defenders run again, as back in their day they did have some decent runs, at least before their roster and stories got a bit wacked out. A Dr. Suess world? Really!? I mean they have amung the most powerful rosters you can get on a team that isn't the Infinity Watch. And you had to give Dr. Strange credit for at least keeping most of them from levelling cities, or each other.

I just picked Valkyrie because she hasn't done a lot in a while and she is actually among one of the MU's most powerful heroines, at least who isn't in space right now.

Sabra usually works with more international stuff, so she may not work out. Thundra is possible.

I understand some people wanting a H4H reunion from the late 90's, even if Marvel likes to pretend it never happened. But the Champions predate them.

Photon would have made a good addition, or even Elsa Bloodstone for that matter, but then NEXTWAVE same along, so that won't work.

It would be so funny if the Champions reformed, then the GLC(Great Lakes Champions) would have to come up with another name. They've already tried

GLA (Avengers)
GLX (X-Men)
GLD (Defenders)
GLC (Champions)

What will be next?

I do think that the Champions are 1 of the 2 teams yet to be reveiled.

The GLA also called themselved te Lightning Rods for a while, to take after the Thunderbolts.

Really I didnt konw that. They could call themselves the GLWarriors or the GLRunaways

They should switch back to Avengers but Call themselves Either:

The Great Lakes New Avengers

or

The New Great Lakes Avengers

I was thinking the same thing

Great Lakes Invaders
Great Lakes Power Pack
Great Lakes Alpha Flight

You know what they need to do, they need to give GLA another mini or ongoing so Dan Slott can create some bad guys for the GLA.

I'm talking thier equivalent of small time suck villainy.\

The Great Lakes Masters of Evil

or

The Great Lakes Sinister Six
