I found Amazing Spider-Man to be incredibly flawed, but the one great element that seemed to stick out was the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. It might be the genre's best since Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher on TV's Lois & Clark. Did anyone else find their chemistry and romance to be very convincing? I've read rumors that Garfield and Stone are dating in real life. Watching the movie, it definitely felt true. But this all leads to one big question: how will the death of Gwen Stacy, if it happens, hurt the new trilogy? It will be very difficult for Garfield to duplicate this chemistry with another actress. I feel bad for whoever gets cast as MJ in the sequels.

Their chemistry and performances in general were amazing, and indeed, convincing. I can't say enough about either of them, really. I really wanted him to reveal his identity to her outside on the balcony, and was happy when he did.

It's too bad the trailers and TV spots spoiled the reveal. It could have been one of the more memorable moments in the film, but instead had no shock value whatsoever.

I am a Spider-Man fan, but did not follow the film as heavily as some. Therefore the reveal wasn't spoiled for me.

I was actually hoping they'd do it more in the way of Ultimate Spider-Man, but I felt like the way they did it here had some charm to it.

Tobey and Kirsten also briefly hooked up during production of Spidey 1. But their chemistry was no where as good.

I don't remember the chemistry between Dean Cain and Terri Hatcher being anywhere near as good.

The sexual tension on that show, especially during the first two seasons, is something the superhero genre had never seen before or since.

well they are a real life couple i would hope they have chemistry

so whats their ship name lol

GarStone
EmmaField

Somtimes I can't stand her but she wasn't too bad in this.

Mainly Crazy, Stupid Love is where I found her to be annoying.

Emma Stone was the usual Emma Stone in the Amazing Spider-Man. Nothing different.

I don't think Spidy and Gwen were great as a couple in this movie. There was like no struggle between with them. It looked like Gwen had a secret crush with Peter and Peter also happened to have a crush on her. Then towards the end, they had that moment at Peter's house and I wish they ended with that. But we got another scene of them at the school and it looked they are gonna date each other again, it was too early.

Well if she's killed off in the sequel, then they're currently on borrowed time, so I wouldn't see the harm in keeping them together still; makes it feel more tragic if it happens when they're at their happiest.

It doesn't matter if she's gonna get killed off in the sequel especially that is not confirm yet. And they could put all the "lets get back together" in the sequel like in the beginning of the movie. Then when she gets killed off, that is going to be more sad if they just got back together as a couple in the 2nd movie.

If Gwen dies, it won't be til the third film. Emma Stone is signed on for three films, and there is absolutely no reason for the PTB behind the trilogy to write her out and have to find a way to still include her in the third film. Doing so would create unnecessary work for them. If they do plan on killing Gwen off, it is much easier to keep her alive until the third film and then kill her off.

Not really great but much better than in most of superhero movies out there.

Why can't Gwen die in the 2nd film? They could have her in flashbacks in the 3rd film.

That's exactly the point. It perfectly showcased the awkward struggle of bumbling through that first real relationship in your life. Not knowing the words to say, not wanting to mess it up by saying something stupid, being completely overwhelmed by the power of it all. Of course there was no struggle. The struggle comes later. The struggle comes after the honeymoon period, when you realize that your relationship isn't going to be giggling and blushing all the time.

I felt like there wasn't an actual build-up to the relationship though. Gwen pretty much asked Peter if he wanted to come over for dinner out of nowhere.

It wasn't out of nowhere. Peter's the one who first broached the subject of them doing something together, and that was only after Gwen talked to him in class. Plus, they were on the Debate team together.

Oh.. must of missed that... may of been talking to my Dad because I got excited about something.

Good thing I'm seeing it again today, alone. :p

I don't think they were on the debate team together - Peter just took pictures of the debate team for the school, and she just happened to be on the debate team.

That said, I agree her asking him to dinner didn't come out of nowhere. Peter was the first to attempt to ask her out on a date. They flirted a few times, and then...his Uncle died. She could see he was having a rough time and probably wasn't likely to ask her out now, so she decided to make it happen.
