The Dark Knight The Christian Bale/Bruce Wayne thread

"Director Ron Howard was on Howard Stern today discussing his daughter Bryce Howard's reaction to the Christian Bale rant. Bryce Howard was filming a scene opposite Christian Bale the night of the rant. Ron Howard told Stern his daughter Bryce called him immediately following the freak-out and said she had "a really weird night" on the set.

Ron Howard says he has listened to the Christian Bale rant and understands what Bale was going through. Ron Howard says it was a very intense scene and the director of photography was disturbing the set, which is a big-time no-no in Hollywood. Ron Howard says Christian Bale is a very emotional actor and felt awful about the rant and apologized to everyone on the set the next day. The DP of the film was never fired. Bryce Howard and Christian Bale went on to film the rest of the movie without any drama."

This is all a bunch of crap. There isnt a single person reading my words right now who HASN'T gone off in anger at someone, be it a loved one, a co-worker, or a complete stranger at some point in their lives.

Anyone saying something to the contrary, i have no problem calling a liar.

Bale is a human being, just like the rest of us. Does that excuse his behavior?

No.

But he shouldnt be held to a higher standard than anyone else just because he plays Batman on the big screen.

Just my opinion.
Agreed. That's what I've been saying all along. It's amazing how high and mighty some people are acting about this.
^Agreed. But there's a difference between going off and cursing and threatening for four minutes.
Like someone pointed out earlier, he wasn't cursing and threatening for four minutes straight. He'd throw his tantrum, then he'd get quiet for a few seconds, and someone would say something that set him off again. Besides, I've had days that were bad enough that I'd be fuming and going off at people throughout the whole day, and I doubt I'm the only one who's had that experience.

Bale: Ron Howard, is it? You wanna f**k with me too?! You DON'T wanna f**k with me!

Amen. Anyone who can't own up to their own moments of bad behavior are just lying and riding along on a moral high horse.

I have ranted on FAR longer than three or four minutes in one go, at work, at home, and even to a cashier one time who ticked me off. Yes, I have a temper, and get in bad moods, but it's hardly grounds to string me up like people think Bale deserves. Human = flawed. End of story.

I find it telling that almost nobody in the filmmaking business thinks this is a big deal. The public is absolutely in the dark about how films are made.

If you're going to boycott Bale's movies over this, you might as well boycott almost every movie EVER made.

I know someone who does that. She's a great person, it's just when you get her mad she will go off, BIG TIME, and much longer than four minutes, more like 20. Doesn't make you a jerk or a scumbag, just means you have a bad temper.
i'm actually related to a couple of these types :whatever:. yeah they aint bad people tbh, but God knows it doesnt feel that way when they're mouthing off.

Wow, after turning up the speakers alot louder I realized you can hear Shane saying "I, was looking at the lights" When Chris was telling him to give him an answer.

Well, good for you!!!!

:hehe:

Truth is, that someone's my mom. She's an incredible person, but man when she's angry...damn.

Exactly!

LOL

Personally I can relate. All my friends know me as a super nice guy but also know I have a really bad temper. It's not easy in the slightest to keep it under control 100% of the time.

No one is perfect and truthfully I find it funny due to some choice phrases Bale uses in his rant("OOOOOH GOOD FOR YOU!" and "NO! NOOOO! Don't shut me up!"). I kind of wish there was video footage of it because I want to see what Bale's motions were when he does the whole "AH DA DA DA DA". I guess I'll just have to settle for JaD's Avy.

The director of 'The Wrestler' (Darren Aronofsky) came out in support of Bale stating " "I think he was right. I don't think he was out of line." and ""It is a sacred time between action and cut. If it was the first time it was excusable, but a second time that ruins it."
He added that he did not think the language used had been "abusive beyond call" and that he had seen many worse things go on on set.

Also veteran director Michael Winner said Bale was "100% right" to lose his temper.
"It is a golden rule on a movie set that you do not walk about in front of the artist during a take - you do not distract him."
Winner, whose last film was 1999's Parting Shots, added: "Why should Christian Bale interrupt what could have been his best reading of those lines, and say very quietly, 'please don't walk while I'm acting'."

It's great to see all these other directors and people in the industry backing Bale but it's sad the media won't push what they say.

Basically.

I also know people who are like, "Well, of course they wouldn't blame Bale, they'd want to work with him someday."

But that still doesn't mean they're obligated to come out and publicly support him. Just that they would avoid bashing him. :oldrazz:

I love Bale. And while the internet wankers are picking him apart, Hollywood actors/actresses might know exactly how he feels and are quietly pleased that he stood up to the B.S. Those who also take "the craft" this seriously.

:funny: The lulz never end:

After Bale's blowup the DP was not allowed within 100 feet of the set if Bale was on it, sources tell us. In the final days of filming, the DP was back on set, and he and Bale did not have any more harsh words.

Bale became a hero to cast and crew after his tirade against Hurlbut, who was widely despised, sources tell RadarOnline.com exclusively. "Hurlbut was a condescending (bleep) to everyone," a source told us. His favorite line was "Why don't you go stab yourself in the head, you idiot."

Maybe Bale's not such a bad guy after all.

Still dunno how the DP was supposed to do his job if he wasn't allowed on set, but....whatever. Maybe he's one of those hands-off DPs and McG oversaw all of the shooting himself.

I swear I only pressed the "Post Quick Reply" button once! :oldrazz:

If it wasn't for the "media", we wouldn't be reading all these statements from actors/directors.

In any case, support from the industry was what I expected. Especially for someone highly respected as Bale is. I think everyone knows by now he takes his career seriously, so a blow-up isn't necessarily gonna taint his image to his peers.

I don't know how accurate that article is, but "Why don't you go stab yourself in the head, you idiot." is almost as good as Bale's rant. But for different reasons. Bale's rant is funny because it's so over the top; that line is funny because it sounds like something a child would say. I'm just incredibly amused by the thought of a grown man saying that.

You know, there has to be some audio of Hurlbut hurling some choice insults on the set. C'mon leakers, get on that!

Not likely, since the sound guys wouldn't have any incentive to record before the cameras roll.

I've pondered why the sound recorder thought to keep recording when the take was obviously ruined by that time. Sound and camera usually go together, in which case there's either video of this, or the sound guy decided to be a little *****e and get it onto the tape.

So, the DP goes from the guy who's constantly tweaking the lights to not being on the set at all? If true, Bale completely changed this guy's working mode. Impressive.

Exactly! Opie is cool with Bale. Isnt that enough for you people?!

Except that Opie's daughter was actually there and Opie is pretty much a power player in Hollywood. :oldrazz: I will trust his opinion on it more than Joe Public's
