I disagree, Massee was never meant to be Norman. I think Marc already had plans for who the Man in the Shadows would be in the trilogy. Marc called him the Man in the Shadows because it really fits the villain and that was most likely his idea of where he wanted take the villain.
And no, Norman never was the Man in the Shadows in the comic books, that was just something fanboys zoomed in on trying to prove he was the Man in the Shadows. I saw what they were talking about. [man in the crowd]. But that isnt really true. Norman was the Green Goblin in the comics. It was just that there are some similarities there between some villains. Very much like saying because he wears a coat and hat like Doc Ock in the comics then thats gotta be him but so do other villains. So do other villains.
