The Curious Case of Spider-Man & Hulk Rights (Or Keep Hope Alive That the Rights Will Revert)

Well he did, because that's where the name Smart Hulk or Professor Hulk came from. It was the second time round. But the first time he still looked savage but was smart but was never called Smart Hulk.

And funny.

Just fyi, the article title is a bit misleading. The analyst says he speculates Comcast could sell the rights bundled with their stake in Hulu. So it's just speculation on his part but would be cool regardless.

Oh about time!

We need Hulk 2003 and The Incredible Hulk on Disney+ and Marvel Studios' Namor in phaseven.

Well damn. I spoke too soon.

Not trying to be a contrarian, but I genuinely think Bixby/Ferrigno are still the best. I didn’t even grow up watching the show, I watched it as an adult. But there’s something so magic about those two together. I wish Ruffalo was half as intense as Bixby. Hulk is a curse.

Bixby was sometimes even scarier than the Hulk, especially when the rage or frustration was building up and you could sense the point of no return coming. But the whole series was more like a horror film, especially the pilot. Bixby really seemed like someone you didn't want to make angry. Imagine if he were the one acting opposite Downey Jr or Evans.

That duo is so underrated. For my money, Bixby/Ferrigno are up there with the great pieces of superhero casting like Reeve, Reynolds, RDJ, Evans, Hemsworth.

I think I just don’t like Ruffalo as an actor. He’s talented but something about him annoys me and fails to impress me.

Bixby/ Ferrigno were my introduction to the Hulk character as a child in the 80s.

Bixby's version, to this day , is still what I envision as Bruce Banner, and I also concur that that combo is still the best.

No, they didn't have the CG and Effects we have today, and they couldn't visually give the type of Hulk that fans are accustomed to in the 21st century.

But there was a real humanity there in Bixby and Ferrigno.

They don't get enough credit from Fandom ,for how they helped to introduce the Hulk character to general audiences , especially in a time when CB tv and films weren't regarded that highly .

The 70s Incredible Hulk TV series is almost like a "What if someone really did become the Hulk in real life?" It would not be so comic booky but a real curse and something horrific.

I just read up on Bixby - the poor guy lived a life that could only be described as tragic :csad:

I've only seen snippets of the '70s Incredible Hulk show online. I'd like to watch the entire series someday - I'm surprised that it has 80 episodes plus 5 TV movies...

Come to think of it, I'd like to watch the '70s Amazing Spider-Man TV show too, which has a much more manageable 13 episodes. Too bad Disney doesn't have the rights to these shows - it would be convenient to have them both on D+...

Well here's Hammond's Spiderman.

There's playlist on Youtube of the Hammond series, though the quality isn't the best.

You really have to be in the right mood to watch the incredible Hulk TV series because it is quite a depressing watch. You might feel quite down and feeling no hope after watching a few. And they ate pretty tense most of the time.

There was a point where a TV movie with Hammond's Spidey and Bixby/Ferrigno Hulk was being tossed around, I don't remember why it fell apart but the word was Spidey was gonna wear the black costume for it. That would have been super cool to see in live action, him just wearing a cloth version of that suit like he did on and off around the time in the comics.

I'm ok with this deal if Disney gets OWNERSHIP of both Hulk films, the Bill Bixby TV show and heck while we're at it throw in Howard the Duck too.

Really love both Hulk and Namor so would be awesome if this happened. Maybe we get the real Defenders one day too.

Did the Ang Lee Hulk movie basically kill Hulk as a solo movie franchise? That is probably one of the reasons The Incredible Hulk in 2008 opened soft and when Hulk/Banner was a great character in Avengers a lot of people wanted a solo Hulk movie at that point. If Universal and Marvel were on good terms at the time they could have followed up Avengers with a solo Hulk movie starring Mark Ruffalo and it would have opened big but that window has long gone.

I wonder how many films Sony could release before they run out of options for their SSU films?

4. Kraven
5. Madame Web
6. El Muerte
7. Venom 3

I don't know long we are going to see Spidey v. Venom. Sinister SiX would be eXpensive and a hard sell without Spider-Man. Venom 4/5/6 seem eXcessive. I'd like to see a solo film for Black Cat and Silver Sabre but I doubt they would do well. Spider-Woman and Miles Morales seem like the safest option after Venom.
