Figured it'd be nice to have 1 place to talk about this if it does happen since it will definitely impact every show on the network.

“First, as many of you are aware, over the past year or so, this transformative time in our industry has led to a series of business activity across media and content companies,” he wrote. “Given that environment right now, ViacomCBS and Warner Bros. are exploring strategic opportunities to optimize the value of their joint venture in The CW Network.”

“So, what does this mean for us right now? It means we must continue to do what we do best, make The CW as successful and vibrant as we have always done,” he added. “We have a lot of work ahead of us — with more original programming than ever, this season’s expansion to Saturday night, our growing digital and streaming platforms — and we thrive when we come together and build The CW together.”

If sold, I doubt WB would let them keep any of their shows, particularly DC shows.

I don't have a horse in this race, as I don't watch anything on the CW. But if this happens it'll be interesting to see what impact it has on the CW's DC programmes.

I imagine WB will pull all DC properties from the CW if not outright do away with the Arrowverse.

At its height it achieved some fine television but that was years ago, albeit I've only seen one episode of Lois and Clark.

I hope Superman & Lois, Stargirl, and Naomi stay on CW.

Would acquiring live sports have saved CW?

I doubt it. It's problem from inception is that it wasnt fully carried by everyone which is why it gets such low ratings. It's essentially a premium channel depending where some live.

Well if The CW is over it’s the end of an era just like with The WB and UPN. Depending if that was good or bad is up to you.

For me the CW allowed me to continue Smallville and it gave me the Arrowverse and I know it’s passed it’s glory days but for the most part I still enjoy the shows and they give me weekly DC content to look forward to throughout the week. But overall I feel meh lol like I’ll live.

Pour one out for Riverdale fans... Meh Netflix will probably revamp it.

I don’t have a head for business; so there are aspects of this news that I find confusing.

According to several articles, the CW — as a network — has never been profitable. And yet, individual series could be lucrative because their respective owners would then license them to secondary markets like streaming, foreign and DVD. Thus, the CW had value as a kind of “proving ground” or “loss leader” platform that would pay off (for WB and CBS) in the long term. Have I got that right?

But if that’s the case… what is CW’s appeal to any outside buyer? They wouldn’t own the IPs. And if, as some are speculating, the various shows gradually migrate to CBS or HBO, there wouldn’t be much left to constitute a “network.”

:thf:

I don’t know much about US TV but what other stuff is there on CW of interest outside of the DC shows that a buyer might be interested in?

The CW peaked with Nikita anyways.

Someone isn't buying a broadcast channel because of what shows it has on it. They are buying a broadcast channel so that they can control what the various stations air. Which is why I am very concerned about this.

Oh right, yeah, that does sound worrying. :csad:

Sinclair will buy it and we'll get the local broadcast equivalent to Fox News?

I don't know how it is on other CW Stations but the one in Dallas got rid of it's news in 2018. First they tried regular news and that didn't work and then they tried something called NewsFix

NewsFix - Wikipedia

They have something called Morning After which is the typical local morning show, co hosted by a former news anchor from Dallas' ABC affiliate and another one who used to work at the Dallas Fox Affiliate. It's the closest thing to news that CW Dallas has but they do not have evening or night time news like the other Network affiliates do. It used to be a Fox station but when Fox added the NFL, they were dropped and was a part of the WB Network.

Their history with local news and it's not great:

KDAF - Wikipedia

I don't know if they would bring it back if Sinclair bought it as the CW Station here in Dallas hasn't been successful with the news. Plus they had a lot of turnover on their local news casts while other affiliates have long standing anchors. I can't see them bringing back the news to their station because they haven't been successful with it. Why bring something back that hasn't worked? The FOX, NBC, CBS and ABC affiliates here in Dallas have all had anchors who have been with these stations for at least a decade, sometimes even more. With the Fox station in Dallas, among the main daily news team (5 PM, 6 PM and after Fox Primetime programming), the meteorologist is the one with the shortest tenure and he's been there since 2003. When CW had their regular news, it was a rotating crop of anchors every 4-6 months, including current Field Reporter for American Ninja Warrior Zuri Hall. Even if there was a mandate by Sinclair to bring back the news, it's going to struggle here and KDAF 33 News will disappear again after 4-6 months like all other incarnations.

I stopped watching the channel once Supernatural ended. I watched Flash since he is my favorite hero, but it lost me the season that was split due covid. Storylines were just not interesting and was mainly the Iris show.

I barely finished The Flash and Legends last season and just have not hard the interest this season to catch up yet and may never make it back. It's too bad because I really liked the goofiness of Legends but they have lost their way this past season and the new arc from what I saw has not endeared me either.

Nothing else on CW interests me except maybe Superman and Lois and Batwoman, but I have not even started either of those yet.

Can I have Arrowverse shows next day on HBO Max please. :o

So if they do sell the deal still has to be approved and most likely wont be final till next year right?

So that means we should get final seasons for some of these shows if they don’t move to HBO Max.

So what I’m saying is it possible that the CW will get a 2022/2023 season?

They think the ratings are low because of the demographic? Good luck.

But definitely interested to see what it means for all the shows not in their final season. I assume since WBD/CBS still have some ownership they'll pay for select shows. Probably go down to a total of 4-5 shows?
