What areas do you, or others you perceive may have concern about?

I am concerned that this thread should be renamed to Titans movie thread or something.. but HOPEFULLY WB/DC could officially confirm it... lol

Does every film need a skepticism thread now? Or is it just DC films?

I'm still skeptical about this film even getting made, even after the scene where Wonder Woman gets the press kit for the movie.

IMO the DCEU can't even get Superman right, can we really expect them to do justice to *Cyborg*? A character the general audience by and large doesn't give a **** about anyway? I won't believe that this movie will actually be shown on screens for humans to watch until there is a trailer.

Honestly what would it even be about? Cyborg on his own ain't really that interesting. If this was a Teen Titans (probably just titans since ray's no teenager) then that would bring some decent hype levels.

There isn't a Cyborg movie outside of a Justice League or Teen Titans movie. I think this will be harder to pull off than a hypothetical Hawkeye film, who is another character that isn't terribly exciting by himself.

Really, I'm skeptical of the whole DCEU. To put it mildly.

The general audience didn't know/care about Antman, Guardians of the Galaxy, or...really any of the characters the MCU has made movies about.

Difference is Marvel has a proven track record while DC just botched a film featuring their two biggest hitters.

^Precisely. I have little faith that a Cyborg-stand alone movie for the DCEU will be good based on how it's been going so far, and he's a character that generally works better in a team setting.

As for worrying about diversity, the easily solution to that is to make John Stewart either the main character or a very prominent part of the next Green Lantern movie.

This.

The Marvel brand became too strong by the time they got to Guardians and Ant-Man. We can't assume the same will happen with DC's.

I made the following post in another thread, and I will repost it because I feel it is a relevant response to what you have said.

I would say that Marvel's biggest accomplishment is that now they can put out a movie about any character, no matter how obscure or ridiculous the character and its concept is, and lots of people will go to watch it and really enjoy it, critics, comic fans and casual fans alike, and it will also make money. The Marvel brand alone is enough now, they are not dependent on big names to get people interested (although obviously IM, CA and TA will attract more people because they are well established and have gone down the best with fans). When it comes to movies, the Marvel name and brand is bigger than any one character, I would say, and is enough to sell. DC/WB are much more dependent on Batman, and to a lesser extent Superman, than Marvel are on any character. Marvel builds characters and gets the best out of them, whereas DC/WB just milks them these days.

Marvel's track record is much, much better than WB/DC's and that is why they can make movies about such characters and still do good business. People see the name Marvel and they know that a certain level of quality will be guaranteed at the minimum.

If I was DC I wouldn't have green lantern or cyborg. I'd just stick with the big 3 and flash and Aquaman. I'd keep it tight and you gain character development. If the 5 characters all got 2 sequels that's 15 freaking movies plus the team ups. Lantern's powers are silly and Cyborg is just not interesting enough in my opinion. But they already teased him so that's that I guess.

I don't like marvel movies but they have great success. It will be easier to continue that because they're more super hero popcorn flicks in the style of pirates Disney movies. DC has had 2 more character driven dramas( whether you liked them or not). It's hard to make a good drama with too many characters.

I feel like DC should have waited for his Justice League debut/reception before announcing his movie. But then again Marvel didn't wait for Black Panther, but I have heard good things from his Cap 3 appearance.

It's a REALLY flimsy comparison with Black Panther and Cyborg.

A more apt comparison would be MCU Hawkeye, Black Widow, or Vision.

What makes Cyborg so interesting again? Why couldn't they just have a Titans movie and have Martian Manhunter in Cyborg's place for the Justice League film? Then again, Warner Bros still don't realize that it's way to early for a JL film especially after the disaster that was BvS.

I only made that comparison because they both have movies coming out.

But one is a character with his own well formed history and setting, while the other is only getting a film based on recent events that forced he be a key JL member to meet a diversity quota. I'd say Gambit is a more apt comparison to Cyborg imo.

I feel like they wasted so much of cyborg's potential, by revealing him the way they did. My gosh he should be introduced in a justice league movie. Some version of his origin with his dad transforming him into cyborg, and because of the technology in his body he is somehow crucial to helping the justice league defeat the villain. This would give an otherwise suicidal guy an inspirational reason to live. The world needs him. Make him one of the main characters in the movie.
