The Dark Knight Action Figure SCOOP

Hey Difabio.

The mm line is dead as of the present.

I'll be surprised as hell if we ever see a wave 2.

Mattel has some BS safety issues they have to address, same with some vendors like TRU and Target....

Zig Zag, if you got extra Jokers and/or Goons that you're willing to sell, I'm all ears sir.

My TRU the guy they directed me to said he knew what MM were and he's very familar with them but his store will not be getting them, not now nor in the future. Wouldnt give me a reason.

Seeing as the Movie Master figures are being pulled from nearly every store, I think the only hope of getting Series 2 will be online.

Yeah, I think this will be the case.

I bet it was some ******* kid who choked on an 'evidence' bag. I could see that....

They aren't getting pulled for a recall. Either way, I'm going to interrogate Mattel reps THE DARK KNIGHT style come Wizard World Chicago.

Me: Movie Maniacs, where are they going?

Mattel: I ... uhhh ... I don't kkk ... know ...

Me: Movie Maniac Joker, WHERE IS HE ?!?!?!

Alright we'll see how things shake out. I got 4, one is staying in the box, and I want to display one. We'll see about the last two after talking to Mattel and seeing what the problem is naw mean? Then we'll talk. Honestly, I got lucky the week they came out. I'm a huge Batman fan, even bigger Chris Nolan TDK fan, and when I went into TRU the day they came out on May 1st, I caught an elbow and didn't even get one and there was two on the rack. Later that week I got lucky. Strolled into Wal-Mart at 1 pm and they had boxes of product from the stock room laying on the floor, un-touched from the night before. There was 5 or 6 boxes of Movie Masters, so I was like "YESSS .." First two boxes, nadda on Jokers. Then I opened up one and there was one of them, snatched it. Last box? The case breakdown was 3x Jokers 1x Thug. Just got lucky really. Collectors were going crazy for these things cause of the hype and of course Heath's death. It didn't help Mattel under-produced, but they better be busting them out for the future. I bought all mine cause I'm a fan, and was doing it incase fellow Bat fans needed, but if they are on something where that's all thats ever going to be released, might make me think twice.

zig-zag man
u are freakin' awesome bro. and if u do get a chance to talk to ppl who work for mattel can u do me a favor and ask them why the MM figures of Joker look realistic while the regular line looks cartoonish. As i said before i really like the cartoony figure but i would like to know why they made him cartoony and if they will ever have figures that look realistic besides the Movie Masters

They told me why last summer. I got good honest answers out of them as opposed to the things you see on websites. They told me the 5 inch line Joker would be about 80% what you see in the film. Just toned down. I asked why? He said because the character is so dark and disturbing in the film, that there was actual debate from the company heads on whether to release products of the Joker character at all. Apparently some early tests of the figure scared some kids, so they toned it down, and had a comprised version where it could in tone be what you see in the film w/o being too frightening for little children.

Really the MM line was BORN out of the fact that they knew they'd be missing on an opportunity to sell product and not to upset adult collectors if the kids line was too toned down for them. So really, that's the reason.

man that sucks. i can't believe they had to change it just because a few kids were scared of the original design. i mean if that's the case they might as well change the scarecrow design as well(as if a kid won't be scared by those light up eyes). and honestly the joker that they are using for the regular line looks even scarier and more sinister than the movie masters line joker. MM just has a regular look on his face(like he is staring at a wall or something) while the cartoony figure from the regular line has an evil little grin on his face like he wants to carve a smile in someone's face with his knife.

Well I've been posting from my inside sources at Wal-mart, and the pull and hold is no longer in effect, because they just shipped back their entire case of MM toys (still have the hooks there though) just were told they were being recalled now.

I haven't read the last few days of the thread, but what happened with the wave 2 with Two-Face, Scarecrow, Ra's, and fear induced Batman sculpted by the Four Horseman that were supposed to come out. The 2-pack was part of that deal, and those are out.

****....well, that's it. They hit the Walmart. We're good and ****ed now ladies and gents......good and ****ed.

I wonder if these are gone for good....it's certainly looking that way.

So let me get this straight.......huh? Are they there yet? I'm gonna drive to Walmart, if they don't have any, there's gonna be hell to pay.

Much obliged my good man. What days are you going to Wizard? I'm going all three days plus tomorrow night. If you need backup to muscle Mattel, just let me know. You can do the talking and I can just say "Yeah!" after every sentence and point at the guy. Or we can totally disorient him and start yelling two separate strings of thought at him at once. Whichever works.

DUN DUN DUN! Triple Post! :woot:

Definitely. Berating people is awesome.

I got the 4 inch Batman and Joker to go with my Joes, Indys, and SWs.

My Batman has two left feet! Ha!

I realized why my Killing Joke Joker fig is always falling over. His left angle is extremely loose. I gotta put a couple drops of glue into his sock to hold him up.

Well, this past weekend @ Wizard World Chicago ... I was so amped up for any and everything "Dark Knight" related, that I swung by the booth at Mattel to see if I could gather any information regarding the upcoming "Dark Knight" movie line. I spoke to two different Mattel reps, one being in creative and the other being in the public relations dept.

The info I recieved was extremely positive and encouraging. After hearing much response from the more adult oriented fans of the movie products (even though the BEGINS line was very successful), Mattel listened and will be releasing a 6 - 7 inch, highly detailed and poseable collector's line for the movie. The first lineup would include Batman in the 2 different suits seen in TDK, the Joker, Scarecrow and Two-Face. He said the figures would be highly detailed (more so than the 5 inch line) and would include even the most horrific of details from the movie characters (like Joker's scar). I then asked the gentleman if the collector's line was successful, whether they would continue it and make other characters from not only the current movie, but from BEGINS as well, for example: Ra's Al Ghul, Alfred, Jim Gordon, etc. The rep said they would definetely make other characters if the collector's line is indeed a hit amongst fans. So if you want more characters, you need to go out there and support the line.

He also touched based on the continuity of the 5 inch line, mainly aimed @ kids. He said they would be making figures of Batman in both his suits from the movie, they would have 2 different Joker's with completely different sculpts. I then asked him, being the 5 inch line is mainly aimed at kids, would the look be as grotesque as it is in the movie and like it he will be seen in the collector's line. He told me that it's about at 75% of what we'd see in the movie, or ont he collector's figure. He said the collector's one just shows more of what we will actually see, due to details / size, etc. He also said we'd get another Scarecrow in this line, and that we'd be recieving a movie Two-Face as well. He also told me there would many suprises in the line that he wasn't mentioning. For both the collector's and children. He said kind of think like the collector's edition Batman and Prototype suit Bruce Wayne. I then got another one of the Mattel rep's to further divuldge what he meant by that, and he only gave us one of the suprises ... a movie inspired by Firefly character figure. The bat-pod toy will be made in scale for the 5 inch figures, as that is the line aimed at kids because it's versatile in that it can include accessories and vehicles, etc. They also are working on playsets for the 5 inch line. All they had there was a TDK poster and post cards hyping up the movie and product, but the guys said they are almost done now with all the toys, but WB wouldn't let them show them at any of the trade shows that involve the public. I also asked how the process goes with the studio and the production of this merchandise. He told me the movie producers send them the designs, set pics, and even invite the Mattel people down while they actually film so they can entirely capture the essence. And before anything is released or goes into production stage, the studio (Nolan included) has to approve of the designs so that they are authentic. So you know it's good.

BTW, that collector's line of movie figures I mentioned ... it's being sculpted by some infamous toy group called the 4 horsemen ... errr, something like that.

:cwink:

i look back and man some of this stuff was a total lie
