Me too, I made some of those exact points in the "ASK" thread.

I compared the Two Face in this film to Venom in Spidey 3, a major villain discarded in 5 minutes of screen time.
I'm talking about Two Face, not Harvey Dent. They could have set up a great villain for the third picture, now what are they going to do, the Riddler? Penguin? Even Catwoman would be seen as a joke in a serious trilogy.

BTW, I think the mob guy got the gun in the courthouse because it was plastic or something.

As mentioned, the Joker character kind of lost some menace to me because he became a "superman" type character.
There was nothing, NOTHING, he couldn't do, get access to, police he couldn't corrupt, chemicals, weapons, whatever he wants. In a short few weeks, he was able to do anything he wants. Every plan he executed went off without a hitch. Road blocked that needed to be blocked at every location. I think someone loading hundreds of barrels of gasoline into various buildings and huge boats in a major city, would garner some attention.

Don't get me started on how he hands Batman his lunch, this world class fighter.

Joker is able to do these things because he has every criminal orginization in his pocket. Did you miss that part?

And you cannot compare Two-Face to Venom.
Fact: Harvey Dent is a much more compelling and neccesary character to this story. Two Face is more of a plot device to prove Jokers point, and he WILL return, who is to say Two-Face is dead? Gordon came back, why not Harvey? I still look at this as his set up for the third film.

No. You're being an ass and I read your review of this movie. I don't see anything negative. Your review was pretty positive and you voted a "1". That doesn't make any sense.

Stop the name calling. You can discuss things without resorting to that.

It was good for what it was, but what it was, wasn't what it should have been.

And so you give it a 1? Not even a rational score like a 5.

I respect the opinions of others but I am trying to figure out your logic in giving it a 1. From what I gather, you have a nostalgic connection to the 1st movie from 89 and in your head
The Joker should always be a fat, old, balding mobster turned art aficionado who dances to Prince songs while wearing a pretty little french beret.
That maybe the Joker from your childhood, but that is NOT the Joker from mine, because I read the comics and watched the animated series as well.

You are Exactly spot on.

For the bank scene, he hired small time thugs who are useless and promised them a cut (but killed them all).

Then he blackmailed the mob as well as took a crap load of money (which he burned). Last time I checked, you can accomplish a lot of things with money.

The whole comparasion between Two-Face and Venom is ridiculous because it is based on what people want to believe that Two-Face is a murdering psycho who also steals and such. Nolan changed that direction (the way Heath and Nolan changed Joker), to show Two-Face as a more tragic figure in the mythos. It was something different, and pulled off fantasticly.

Overall, a very good movie.

Better action than in BB for sure, but I was expecting better fighting scenes of Batman kicking butt in more dynamic ways, so I was let down a bit on that part, as well as on the score. :csad:

Most actors did a very good job, but to me the star of the show was Heath Ledger, he totally blew me away!! He completely overshadowed Bale, who looked kinda bored throughtout the film for me.

Loved the interrogation scene and the Joker challenging Bats to kill him on the middle of the street!! :word:

But the repetitive dialogue and speeches annoyed me. It felt too forced. The film was also really boring during the first 40 mins or so, but got better after that.

8/10

Cool movie, but not as good as many people say.

Haven't posted in a while, but thought I would now. Now I like batman but I'm not a huge batman fan. I'm more of a marvel fan. Until this past weekend X2 was my favorite comic book movie ever. But I must say The Dark Knight was night only the best comic book movie I've ever seen, but the best movie I've seen in a long time. Batman fans be proud, the bar has been raised yet again for comic book movies. I believe this was a perfect batman movie, and in my opinion Heaths Joker annihalated Nicholsons. It's a shame that he's not with us anymore.

I don't have time for a full review, but as a comic book movie lover in general, this is good for both DC and Marvel movies to come.

I saw the movie last Saturday, and although I knew that it will be good (I also love Nolan's Memento & BB), I think TDK has more than lived up to the enormous hype around it. TDK shows what a talented director, a smart script, and a fantastic cast can do to a character like Batman. We have seen the worst of Batman movies (Batman & Robin), and I think TDK is the best Batman movie ever made.

TDK is as some people had said, a crime drama that just happens to feature costumed superhero, and it is an exceptionally well-crafted movie at that. We get to see Batman as well as the man behind the mask, Bruce Wayne. What I like is that Nolan isn't afraid to take us behind the scene, and explains about the inner working of Batman, while still maintaining the mystique of the Dark Knight. Christian Bale is imo even better here than he was in BB, as the story offered him opportunities to have good, solid performances, acting against other great actors like Michael Caine, Heath Ledger, and the rest of the cast. Aaron Eckharts was overshadowed by Ledger's Joker, but his performance made us believe in the integrity of Harvey Dent, and without that belief his fall and susequent transformation of Two Face won't have been as effective toward the end of the movie. I also love the make up they did on Two Face; grotesque, disturbing, but not too over-the-top.

However, the movie really belongs to Heath Ledger and the sadistic Joker. As Ang Lee had commented when Ledger died unexpectedly, that he thought Heath had put his soul into this role, and I think this comment is spot on and right on the money. Never once did I think it was Heath beneath that coat of make up, and Joker stole every scene he was in. I became convinced just how magnificent his performance is when I realized how Heath never left the foot off the pedal, and he was Joker 100% of the time. You believe, along with Batman and the city of Gotham, that he really could put off all those plans that almost destroyed the city, and nearly took down Batman like he did with Dent. If Oscar did not at least give Heath a nomination, then it'd be a travesty.

The only things I didn't like too much was that some of the scenes seemed a bit dragged out, the usage of the sonar techology (how Wayne was able to install it to every cell phone in the city is still unexplained to me), and the somewhat ho-hum ending with Dent, but I guess any scene that follows the Joker will become a let-down. But overall, I think TDK is just about perfect, although I won't rate it above Iron Man; I think both movies deserved 10/10, and both movies executed near flawlessly. It's great to see that we can be treated to two amazing superhero movies in one summer, and I hope this trend can continue.

10/10

I respect your opinion, but are you saying that the bank robbery scene was boring?! :wow:

Again, I respect your opinion.

The bank robbery was my favorite scene, the best first appearance of the Joker.

Gosh, I miss Heath Ledger.

I know the question wasn't directed at me, but I'll answer it. The bank robbery wasn't boring, but the people who are saying it was problematic are correct. I thought it was a well conceived scene, but it wasn't edited very well, I thought the sound mix was horrible, and it was often hard to hear the actors.

Bottom line IMO brilliant scene, poor execution.

This isn't really a superhero film, it's not really a batman film. This is taking the basis of the superhero character, turning it into a real world scenario and then making it into a Robert Mitchum film noir piece.

If I hear this one more time I'm going to scream.

"This isn't a superhero movie, it's a crime drama"?

What are you all BASING this on? Did you just not SEE all the superhero elements and the superhero plot that ran through the entire movie?

The people who say that kind of thing come across as feeling shame in the source material. To me, the source material for films like this is just beginning to be tapped.

I Think that Two-Face went a little fast from the point he was burned to when he died, But i'm sure that nolan has it planed perfectly for the third film

That or "graphic novel movie" which has been making the rounds.

I thought the idea was make the best superhero/comic movie ever so that the genre can be respected the way it deserves to be...

No, we'll just create all new categories to fit these movies in so that "comic book" movies can continue to be looked down on.

I agree with that quote of it not being a super-hero. But, one of the annoying things as well, when Batman is throwing Moroni over the the top of the building it is presented as simultaneous to Dent with the fake cop getting ready to blow his head off, the two scenes are right next to each other, yet batman magically get's to Dent in an instance. That, along with shooting his gun to save the Joker, holding him hanging with one arm like he is weighless as a feather were little niggling annoyances that add up.

EXACTLY! Batman comics have almost ALWAYS featured these elements in some fashion. Especially the more recent ones (after YEAR ONE).

THANK YOU! I hate when they said like that.

I went and saw the Dark Knight on the day it came out at 11:00 Pm. And let's just say it blew me away! Best superhero movie i have ever seen and definitley the best movie of 2008. The actors were all at their best, the cinematography was superb! Christopher Nolan is perhaps the best director of his generation now. My favorite parts of the movie were:

-The Joker's meeting with the Mob gangs, which includes the PENCIL TRICK!!!!!:woot:
-Harvey's Campaign party at Bruce's Penthouse
-Gordon's "return from the dead" and saving Batman- "We've got you now you son of a *****. Best Kick ass line in the movie in my opinion. Oldman at his best!:woot:
-Final confrontation between Joker and Batman
-Final and only confrontation between Two Face and Batman

And the music was so amazing! Kudoz to Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard for making such awesome music!

CHRISTIAN BALE IS THE BEST BATMAN/BRUCE WAYNE EVER!

I agree a couple of mainstream critics say it and then all of a sudden it becomes a new song that everybody sings. It's as obnoxious and pretentious as the term "graphic novel". There have been Batman comics that are more "serious" and less over the top than this movie (Ie: Ego, Absolution, Night Cries etc.) does that mean they're no longer superhero comics? I swear it's like people just can't get that a superhero story could be a well told one. I wonder if these people even read comics.

BTW I had no idea you reviewed this flick yet till somebody else quoted you a couple of pages back. While I'm more forgiving than you are since I relooked at it contextually before posting my review I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice how out of character Batman wanting to quit when the stakes were raised instead of that being an incentive for him to fight harder and also taking the rap for Dent seemed initially.
